21.01.2022 Notice, do not judge, just notice. Our body talks to us all the time by way of aches, pain, sensations, heart beats, breath and gurgling sounds etc... Just notice. When we spend time in the body and come back to a sense of calm, our body tells the brain we are ok and the brain settles down. Ground... notice your body, if feels safe, just notice. #somaticexperiencing #notice
21.01.2022 To listen to the latest podcast. Take care. https://anchor.fm/harnessingwellness
18.01.2022 We experience the world differently on each side of the brain. The left brain carries on with life and has our various coping strategies. The right brain holds our instinctive responses and defence mechanisms. At this stage, following the year of adaptation, pandemic and change to our ‘normal’ life and for many people who are continuing to be in stage four lockdown in Melbourne, we are experiencing our instinctual responses, flight (panic, anxiety, fear), fight (anger, irritat...ion), freeze (overwhelmed, immobilised) and submit (can’t say no, difficulties with boundaries with people). It is not unusual to be experiencing one or more of these nervous systems responses, as our nervous systems are trying to look after us. They are being activated to mobilise us into action to run, fight, freeze and attach as our lives have changed. Notice what your nervous system might want to do are you more anxious, angry, and or overwhelmed all all of them in a week. The nervous system rises and falls. Now is a good time to continue to find things that are familiar, that you enjoy doing, get outside in the sun , exercise, talk to friends and family about how you feel or contact your GP or a counsellor and or psychologist to talk though your experiences and get some more coping strategies. Take care. #takecareofyourself #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #lookafteryourbrain #selfcare #anxiety #depression See more

17.01.2022 Trigger having his breakfast: watered down Lucerne, raspberries and chia seeds. He has had some health issues over the last few months, so trying to increase protein, omega 3 and 6 and antioxidants in his diet. What we do for those we love! #triggertheanxioushorse #therapy #horse #equinesofinstagram
17.01.2022 First session back at the gym after lockdown restrictions have been eased here in Melbourne. It was sooo good. Somethings come easy but returning to the gym was not going to be one of them, hence the red face and thoughts of not being able to get out of the car. However without starting again to build physical fitness to support mental fitness life maybe more challenging. It’s part of looking after ourselves and doing things to actively keep us mentally and physically fit. Se...lf care is so important as we ease out of restrictions. For some the easing out of restrictions that has evoked feelings of overwhelm, please note nothing has to happen quickly. If you place expectations on yourself, check in to see if that’s what you really want. It’s ok to go slow. Find your own mental, social and physical groove and self care daily. #mentalhealth #stressmanagement #stressrelief #physicalhealth #psychological #wellbeing #wellbeingwednesday See more
16.01.2022 Happy eating Trigger’s lunch.
15.01.2022 Trigger and I. We have worked together for six years in equine assisted psychology with a few 100 people or more. He has been the horse I have learnt from, he comforts me, pushes my boundaries and makes me want to be a knowledgable horse person. He is one who offers learning to others too and now he is in his own book with Happy the Very Sad Pony, called Trigger The Very Anxious Horse . This book is on anxiety, coping and self regulation for children.... it is on its way. #childrensbooks #booksonanxiety #sunday #takecareofyourself #anxietymanagement

13.01.2022 Find a smile. Pandemics, natural disasters- incidents that change the way we view our world and that shake our sense of safety are challenging emotionally, physically, intellectually, socially and spiritually. If you feel overwhelmed or out of control, find things you are familiar with, comfortable with, find people who listen and do not judge you for feeling the way you do. Everyone will be experiencing this pandemic and the lockdown road map differently depending on their ...coping strategies, resources, understanding of how they think their world should be and support people. Find your supports. This lockdown will end. Do day by day. Mindfulness, music, physical exercise and meditation have been helpful for some people. Focus on building internal resilience, though self care and gratitude, as hard as it may be at this time. Find a smile, be kind to others and be kind to yourself that is something we can do. Take care. #selfcare See more
12.01.2022 Stress at the moment can be high for many. Being in stage four lockdown at home can be challenging physically, emotionally and psychologically. To reduce the stress, try to be. Sit or walk depending on what feels comfortable, focus on breathing and what you may be grateful for. Wishing things were different is what many of us are doing and it can be helpful for a moment but it can also take its toll on us. Acknowledge what you find challenging, reach out and talk. Write a journal so you can close it when you finish writing. It is another way to process thoughts. Take care :)
12.01.2022 Horses eat plants too. That’s the end of the potted one at the front of the office. Thanks Trigger :)
08.01.2022 Just notice, without judgement, hands on our stomach can help settle the ‘dorsal vagal’ nervous system. This system is associated with feelings of hopefulness. Some people notice they naturally put their hand on their stomach. The warmth of our hands can be supportive in evoking a sense of comfort. Just sit and notice. Everyone deserves some comfort. Somatic Experiencing offers lessons in learning about how to notice and regulate our nervous system. To build resilience and an understanding of our nervous system is to offer ourselves time, relaxation and noticing. #takecareofyourself #somaticexperiencing #somatictherapy #psychology #nervoussystem #nervoussystemregulation

08.01.2022 That’s a wrap in the office for 2020! Suitably fatigued with a mask rash face, going into the holiday season with a ‘go slow’ approach. Thank you again for your support, it’s been a massive year of change and resilience building. Feeling a lot of gratitude now and impressed by the humanness, people’s resilience and building of coping strategies. You are why I do what I do and love what I do. Looking forward to 2021 and all that brings. You can still make appointments for 2021 by calling our lovely reception staff on 0391182022. Take care, Naomi -Harnessing Wellness

03.01.2022 Noticing your body sensations can be learnt at any age. It teaches us to slow down and notice. Not to be scared of how our body, heart, lungs, etc reacts but it gives us information about how we feel. #somaticexperiencing #noticing
