It was so nice to see these little girls running around in the gardens together today, enjoying the sunshine and outdoors just as little ones should always be able to.... 20.01.2022 Mummy + Harper for 'Team Clinic' today. Blood results are excellent which is exactly what we want to hear Back before Harper was diagnosed, she was in the highest percentile for her height and weight.... You can watch it on her graph how since treatment started her height has levelled out and she now sits in the lower percentile, it's a little bit sad but we're hoping she's in those group of kids that catch up. We just need to work on broadening her diet a bit, while it's tricky navigating that with a child under "normal" circumstances, we're dealing with one whose little bod has endured so many chemicals, it's a bit of a seperate headache. While lifestyle factors obviously contribute, Harper is more prone to other blood disorders including diabetes so we just really want to get on-top of a good diet and have her trying more things Anyways, another month off and let's get home and relax #childhoodcancerawarenessmonth . . . ... 18.01.2022 September - Childhood Cancer Awareness Month . . . 26th Sep 2018... "Today's events . Through this round of treatment our weeks have started on a Wednesday with a blood test in the morning followed by chemo injections (ara-c/fever chemo)through to Saturday. The progress of which was always dependant on Harpers blood counts. Thankfully we've made it through 3 weeks of an intensive chemo without a setback, but we've always been anxious of it waiting around the corner for us. And so today, Harpers blood test this morning showed that her counts were too low to continue with chemo for this week and also meant we weren't able to do her scheduled lumber puncture/bone marrow/intrathecal chemo today. Her counts are low because of the intensity of her chemo just gobbling up pretty much every cell, or so it feels like. Also because of all-over low counts she is currently receiving a blood transfusion, with a platelet transfusion to follow before we go. So for now, Harpers treatment gets put on hold for a week as all chemo ceases, even the oral chemo she has at "Home", so that her body can build up again ready for chemo to start attacking it again next week. It's sucky, but to be honest I'm just grateful that we've made it through this tough round fairly unscathed and also this break is right in time for the long weekend so I have everything crossed that we'll be allowed back to our real home to spend a couple of days in our own house with Penny + Daddy! Harper is doing super well otherwise, she has so much energy and more determined than ever to walk on her own Doctors are so impressed with how well she looks and how bright her little spirit is." This was such a long day, so much so that we were moved onto another ward for our transfusion to continue as C2N had to close for the day. We were out the door the same time the nurses finished their day shift, caught an uber back to our place in Randwick and plonked ourselves on the bed. 16.01.2022 What's this you ask? Dirt on a plate? No Childhood Cancer Awareness Month post today?... Yes and no. Our day started with a very unhappy blood test in preparation for clinic tomorrow. Despite me trying to put a positive spin on it and pack a "blood test handbag" for Harper that included a couple of chocolates, a Frozen bandaid and her face mask for the Doctors Of course it was a lovely day weather-wise and we were busy organising, cleaning and packing to head into Aunty Rach's for our sleepover before clinic, but thennn..... Harper was naturally refusing to have dinner, I followed her into her room to have a chat and Addie decided it was the perfect time to fall out of her booster seat at the dining table, unfortunately Daddy wasn't quite quick enough to catch her. We ended up taking Addie outside to distract her in the garden with pretty flowers, because she loves that However back inside at the dining table, Harper was adding just a touch of pepper to her dinner And so that's a wrap on parenting today folks *dusts hands* Now we're enjoying one too many chocolate freckles and some home-reno shows on the couch at Aunty Rach's So what's the Childhood Cancer Awareness Month part of this? Out for the day and I was getting Harper out of her carseat and realised the dressing/patch had come off of her old port site. I quickly called our CNC to avoid having to go in through emergency and we were able to head straight up to C2N, where the surgeon was able to come up and organise the redressing. 01.01.2022 "Levi’s death was a breath-thieving, soul-shifting, mind-altering missile to the heart. It played like a trauma loop in my head the first three months after he died, robbing me of sleep and rational thought. It’s what I return to when I watch a movie and have to sit through someone’s end - wretched, prolonged, complete. It follows me to the shops, waits for me well into the night. It’s with me when I work and when I walk, when I drive and when I talk. It’s in the empty co...rners of my house and the warm embrace of my friends. It is my laughter and my tears, my anger and my fun. I was writing this blog (click on the link below to read the rest) to mark Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, when I stumbled across another DIPG advocate, Angel Myers, who affirmed some of the thoughts I’ve expressed here. There are two intertwined parts of my grief living without Levi, and living with his death. The living without Levi is the everything and nothing element; he’s everywhere and nowhere. Levi’s death also reverberates throughout my life. It’s in all things, in all kinds of ways, in all of my days. Because of it, I have purpose. Because of it, I have pain. 01.01.2022 Camp Quality I knew of this lovely organisation prior to Harper's diagnosis, however after her diagnosis we didn't take up on their programs because we thought Harper would be too little for their activities. However, being post treatment and during these times we're all in, Harper's social life has been very limited as she is unable to return to daycare and obviously our family + friends are all trying to be careful.... We really don't want her to miss out on interaction with other kids and so I thought I'd reach out to Camp Quality - surely if there's a safe place for Harper to hangout it's in their programs I was blown away to know that Camp Quality will continue to have services available to us until Addie is 13 years old - that's amazing! I know that as Harper grows there are probably going to be things that she doesn't want to talk about with me, so knowing that she can go on family fun days and camps with Addie and other kids and siblings like her and Ads makes me feel so happy I can so see that there will be friends that she will make through these programs that will end up being her best friends because they can share what they've been through, and are going through, together. And Addie can meet some other cancer siblings too I'm so grateful for Camp Quality that THIS month I'll be walking 100km in an effort to raise funds so that they continue to offer these amazing support services.
