25.01.2022 As promised...introducing one of our largest canine patients! And it is great timing seeing as today is International Dog Day! This is Mack and he weighs a whopping 70kg. Mack is a 3.5yr old Mastiff who outgrew all of his litter mates, and has a huge loveable personality to match his stature... However, you want to duck for cover when the slobber goes flying! We wish Mack and all of our other doggos a happy #internationaldogday

19.01.2022 Some happiness for your Tuesday... We have a successful foster match! Huge thanks to everyone who offered assistance, and a very special thank you to Amelia Hamilton and her mare Callie This is such great news for everybody involved, especially for the beautiful little orphaned filly... and they even look just like mother and daughter!...

15.01.2022 Time for a tiny! This is Stella : ) Stella is a teeny tiny pony who tips the scales at just 94kg. She lives with a menagerie of animals including a few Great Danes who tower over her and rival her for weight! Stella often visits Harradines to keep her horsey friends company on the long drive here. ... Miniature Ponies can have an attitude that contradicts their size, and although Stella is a pleasure in every way, she is definitely Queen Bee at her place!

15.01.2022 Working on weekends isn’t all that bad, when you have visitors like this! Scooby must have known we were featuring Giants and Tinies this week and wanted to come and show off.... The photo really doesn’t do his size justice! This beautiful big boy is an 8yr old rescue Great Dane who has been with his lucky new owners for 5months, and has instantly made himself at home with them. Weighing in at 86kg, Scooby is our current biggest ‘smallie’ on the system!

15.01.2022 Meet Smiggle! Smiggle is tiny, and at 1.5yrs old probably won’t grow any bigger... What she lacks in size though, she makes up for in sweetness- Chihuahuas can be notorious ‘Land Sharks’ but we also get a lot of lovely ones visiting us. Smiggle was born here at Harradines by emergency Caesarian, weighing an incredibly small 42g. We love seeing Smiggle back here for her routine check ups

14.01.2022 Happy Saturday This is Luna! Luna came in for a routine Spey and got everyone’s attention with her loving and affectionate nature. We think she enjoyed being with us too!

14.01.2022 Wishing all our equine patients a very happy birthday today. August 1st is the official birthday for horses in the southern hemisphere and also marks the beginning of our breeding season

13.01.2022 It’s a cliche, but it’s true... We do treat animals great and small! From 810kg to 1.2kg, all in a days work. This week we will be introducing some of our giants and tinies! #vetnurselife

12.01.2022 We love some good news on a Thursday

12.01.2022 Foaling season is nearly here, are you prepared? The gestation period of the mare is highly variable between 320 and 365 days (340 days is average). In the lead up to foaling the mare should be monitored closely for udder development and vaginal discharge. If a vaginal discharge is noticed or the mare starts to run milk then contact your vet as she may lose precious colostrum and this will affect the foals immunity. ... Broodmares should be up to date with routine worming and vaccination prior to foaling. The new born foal acquires immunity from the mare via colostrum. A booster tetanus vaccination is recommended 4 w prior to foaling. Mares should be housed in the foaling paddock for 4 weeks prior to foaling to allow their immune system to make antibodies against local bugs. An ideal paddock is one which can be discretely observed during the day and night, and where help can be easily given if problems arise. Now is a good time to put together a foaling kit to have on hand: - Torch/head lamp with new batteries - Clean towels - Tail wrap or bandage for mare - Disposable gloves - Chlorhexidine or betadine disinfectant for dipping umbilical cord - Halter and lead rope to restrain mare - Phone number of your local vet (9796 5800) Keep an eye on our page for more foaling information as the season commences!

11.01.2022 Spring has Sprung! Not that the weather is reflecting it so far... but it does mean that there’s babies everywhere! If you find any sick, injured or orphaned wildlife you are welcome to bring it to us at the clinic- we will perform a health check and provide any necessary first aid before handing over to an appropriate carer. Please be aware that bird fledglings and other babies that appear orphaned may actually still have their parents close by and feeding them. If not in ...imminent danger, observe them for a little while before interfering. If you rescue an animal during the night and can’t get it to care straight away, place in a box and keep in a warm, quiet place. Do not attempt to feed and keep handling to a minimum- stress can be fatal to wild animals! We have had two baby Western Ringtail Possums brought in this week, which are a critically endangered species. It’s really important that these special little guys are raised by trained and licensed carers, as every single one is important to the survival of the species. Thanks for caring for our wildlife : )

11.01.2022 Here is Penny's story from last year. We are so pleased to hear that she foaled a healthy filly overnight. Congratulations Kim and Toby!

06.01.2022 Important information about our policy changes in relation to Covid-19

05.01.2022 It's that time of the year again! Our equine team have been busy treating horses for sand accumulation. Early clinical signs include loose manure, dirty tails, reduced appetite, weight loss or failure to gain weight and lying down or displaying signs of colic. ... Prevention is the best medicine! Consider supplementing the diet with large quantities of hay, feeding psyllium husk for 1 week each month, using hay nets, removing horses from pasture that isn't established and placing feed bins on rubber matting or carpet.

04.01.2022 Happy Friday! This is Molly, a 17 year old shih tzu waiting patiently with her mum for her appointment

02.01.2022 Could the start of a Tuesday at work get any better?!

02.01.2022 We aren’t going to lie... we like big butts- especially when they belong to beauties like Sully! We are wrapping up our ‘Giants & Tinies’ Feature with our biggest patient of all... Sully is a 9yr old rescue Clydesdale who weighs a ginormous 810kg! Like most Clydies, he is a gentle giant and a favourite around here. Sully has been visiting us for treatment of a Squamous Cell Carcinoma, which is common in fair skinned horses. If you have a horse with white eyelids or muzzle, stay tuned for Sully’s case review to learn more
