09.01.2022 Want a spooky scary, but true story? This did in fact happen to me and my first husband. It was 1987, we lived in a 100 year old house in Camberwell, a lovely t...wo-story weatherboard, with the upstairs front sunroom. Interior decor, original carpets laid over floorboards, redwood I believe. Very high ceilings with original light fittings, fully furnished with antiques and built in wooden cupboards. Kitchen food tray elevator to upstairs (looking in was like 'yikes' you could feel energies, very chilling til you got used to it or them. Wooden panelled walls all kept well complete with the fireplace and huge mantle piece, stained glass windows outside and french glass doors inside, all the stuff original owner owned was still in drawers, I was completely taken by her sewing kit. Antique bits in bobs a true treasure trove of stuff we don't see today. We lived upstairs, it had been separated by outside staircase. Our landlord often stayed downstairs on weekends, he was English. The house had been his as a boy when his family migrated from England, so you can imagine the antiques, priceless!! Backyard had a Magnolia Tree as old as the house itself, her trunk was diameter of the single car garage next to her. Her flowers were larger than a Chinese wok, the scent was just...well...to die for let us say. Our Landlord had to go to England for 3 months and he asked us if we could live downstairs for that time to look after it whilst he was gone. It had been vacated 20 yrs earlier by his Mother when she passed away. My Dad moved into the spare 2nd bedroom, we moved into the double bedroom. All my own stuff but for clothing remained upstairs as he said just use everything as if were our own. We didn't put too much thought into that and bade him farewell. The first month was fine, went to work, came home, cooked, watched the idiot box and then bed. The second set of french doors in the lounge room opened to our bedroom, bed butted up to them, so they remained closed. Wooden Venetians lined windows with heavy dark plumb drapes in all rooms. Into the second month my husband and I started having doona wars with the sheets. Stop doing that!, he would say, doing what...? I would say! Eventually we would fall asleep. The next night, 'I told you to stop doing that, and I said I'm not doing anything, so we both lay there....and waited. Next thing I know the doona was very slowly but 'deliberately' sliding off from end of our bed. I would pull it back up, he would pull it back up and so forth. I sai to him, you are doing that not me...I laughed as I had to really tug it back, as soon as I did it pulled back...like a tug of war, but it wasn't him. It wasn't me either. Tony goes quite as a matter of fact 'we have a bedroom visitor...OK... so now I'm sitting straight up....waiting....but I was not in the least scared but now curious. I always believed in Spirits but didn't know, he also did too. His Mum was a Tarot Reader so he had a natural gravitation to things like that. But so did I. This was not my first experience with things that go bump in the night. However, for the both of us, it was the first time we actually had physical interaction. We both let this go on for a while but we really needed to get to sleep especially him as he was a carpenter/tradesman. Once we realised this was really happening and we could no longer blame each-other, he got up saying he was going to 'fix their little red wagon' (he said that a lot lol) and came back with half a dozen baby nappy safety pins from the old ladies sewing kit. To my amusement he proceeded to pin the doona to the side of the mattress itself, got back into ned and said that should stop her! Her?! I said, he goes, well who ever it is, it's probably her, this 'is' her bed! I pondered on that for a second and turned over to go to sleep. A couple of minutes later the tugging started again, I burst out laughing. She, it or they, insisted on trying to remove blankets. We turn light back on both sit up and promised her we would look after her home only if she would allow us to sleep. She did. She stopped and never tried again. But, she hated cats in her home. Between our housemate upstairs and our two we had 4 cats. One night watching idiot box our two cats and one of our house mates cats who let herself in back door, began crying and yowling, all 3 climbing Venetians, curtains freaking out. Scamp climbed all the way up to roof and wouldn't come down. It took a while but during this time our lounge room felt like a freezer, so dang cold!!! This was different, not like the lady of the house at all. The next day I walked up to the Church on the corner and spoke to the Pastor. He listened intently and said the Priest at the other Church a Catholic one was his friend and the two of them would come the next day to visit. They both arrived after lunch and i made tea. They said 'we will sit in silence' and they did. My eyes flitting from one mans face to the other waiting. Then...the cold air got colder and colder. Can you feel that? he asked his friend? Oh sure can he replied. I said well our cats don't like it and I giggled. The both got up and used these things, dunno what they were, and walked around the room praying. I felt like I was in a movie and was fascinated by this scene playing out. After 3 hours, the room warmed, and they said we shouldn't have any more issues. I thanked them both, and they left. And that is the end of my story...true!!!
