23.01.2022 We've just finished doing all the machining on another Nissan RB30/26 hybrid including machining the main tunnels for the RB26 annular bearings. (RB26s have this groove in the main tunnels & multiple oil holes in the bearing whereas RB30s originally have plain bearing tunnels & only have one oil hole in the bearings) ARP main studs fitted & line-honed & it's all ready to go.

21.01.2022 Harris Engines is continuing to trade across all our normal hours. Any queries call 9444 3838

19.01.2022 Here's the latest rebuild from our engine room - a Holden 179 all ready to fit into a restored 1964 EH Holden. All painted in the correct colour & plenty of zinc plated bolts to finish it off. Can't wait to see it installed.

19.01.2022 Joe Gibbs DRIVEN XP7 engine oil. Semi-synthetic 10W40 CLEARANCE SALE AT BELOW COST! $12.00 per litre (8 litres available)

18.01.2022 Now this is an engine you don't see everyday (as there's only 9 left in the world you'll probably never see another one either!) It's from a 1926 Theophile Schneider - the car that won the under 2 litre class & came 6th outright at the LeMans 24hr race that year. Possibly more impressive than that is the amount of repair work this particular block has had done to it. The rows of little circles in the block face are "A plugs" (a tapered threaded plug used for stitching cracks... in cast iron) These are still available but used fairly infrequently nowadays. The process for repairing a crack was as follows: Drill & tap a hole at one end of the crack, screw in the A plug & then cut it off flush with the surface, drill & tap the next hole partially overlapping the first plug, screw in the plug & cut it off & repeat over the length of the whole crack. (in effect "stitching" up the crack) Just imagine how much work went into repairing the cracks in this block! (I guess it's not like you could find a replacement on Ebay or Gumtree or the equivalent back then with them being this rare ....) See more

17.01.2022 We've just finished a big bore conversion on this Mercedes V8 block - 5.6 litre to 6.0 litre "Alusil" cylinder block. There'a fair bit of work in a job like this - bore out 3.5mm then a 4 stage honing process (roughing, finishing, polishing then the final conditioning stage using the Sunnen felts & silicon compound)

12.01.2022 Here's a video showing how much wear there was in the Yamaha R1 valve & guide!

09.01.2022 Here's a blast from the past for you all! It's amazing the things you find while having a big spring clean out the back of the shop.

08.01.2022 So, we had a customer come in today who reckons his Yamaha R1 had a worn intake valve guide (apparently they're known for this in the 2007/08 models) This is what we found when we stripped the head! Note that it's only on one of the intake valves on one of the middle cylinders - any guesses on why this would be?
