24.01.2022 It’s around about this time of the year we are locking in plans for the annual pilgrimage to Alaska for the northern spring time. Unfortunately not this year. 23.01.2022 In the mid 90’s there was a massive push to go higher, deeper and further into unskied territory across alaska. On one of those days, Jeremy jones, Kent Kreitler, TGR and I made it to the very coastal range from Valdez. We needed more fuel to nail a line at the end of the day and fortunately it was Kevin Quinn’s start up year with Points North Heli in Cordova who was close to where we were and he happily provided us a tank of gas to nail the line and make it back home. I’ve a...lways to tried to figure out where that original area was and it wasn’t till 2 years ago I stumbled across it whilst out with Points North Heli. We filmed the zone you are looking at some 25 years before hand. Can you spot the heli? This is the second piece of art that now proudly hangs on a clients wall. In 1996 it was NZ’s first freeskiing event. Skiers didn’t even compete at the Winter X Games until 1998 (and then only in ski cross). Perhaps it is too big a claim that without the WHC Big Air there would be no Big Air freeskiing Olympic event (on debut in 2022). But somebody had to be first the WHC was one of the earliest m...ajor downtown big air events. Tony Harro Harrington was the visionary organiser one of the best action sports photographers of his generation, and the most chilled-out Aussie creative on either side of the ditch. Nowadays he would be called a disruptor, innovator and entrepreneur. Then as now he just got interesting shit done. There were numerous innovations. The freeride day where competitors integrated tricks during a run through challenging but not extreme terrain was the template for events like the Red Bull Linecatcher and a key influence on the current Freeride World Tour. At the time the far-reaching influence wasn’t apparent: it was just an excuse for a bunch of loose units to get loose. 18.01.2022 Teahupoo is pound for pound probably one of the heaviest waves in the world - Mike Prickett, legendary water cinematographer. A mad dash was made from Puerto Escondido in Mexico to Tahiti to intersect with a deep southern ocean swell lurching onto its shallow reefs. Any remnant of jet lag was quickly flushed aside as huge spitting barrels drenched the boat in the morning light. Like any ocean environment, conditions can change fast. Take this first shot for example. Early... morning and no-one wanted any part of it. An hour or so later it shed its nastiness and started to turn tranquil, and shortly after the surfers engaged.
