18.01.2022 Herbert Joseph "Jimmy" Larkin was born on 8 October 1894 at Brisbane in Queensland and educated at St Thomas's Grammar School, Melbourne, http://www.saam.org.au///SAAM-Profiles-LARKIN-BROTHERS.pdf

13.01.2022 Herbert Joseph Larkin, a fighter pilot with the Royal Flying Corps, and his brother Reg Larkin formed an agency for Sopwith aircraft. The company was formed in 1919, as the Larkin-Sopwith Aviation Company of Australia Limited manufacturing aircraft components. The original company went into liquidation and Herbert Larkin then started the Larkin Aircraft Supply Company (known as Lasco) in 1921, at Coode Island. In 1925 the company produced the Avro 504K, the company also produ...ced under-licence the de Havilland Gipsy Moth and one de Havilland DH.50 biplane. It also designed and built a number of aircraft including the Lascoter in 1929, the first allmetal aircraft to be built in Australia. The last design was the three-engined Lascondor. Withdrawal of government subsidy and economic depression caused the company to shut in the 1930s. http://ahsa.org.au///06/AHSA_Newsletter_v32_n3_2016-07.pdf See more

11.01.2022 The Chamberlain 8 (or 'the Beetle' as it was known in its early life for its stunning insect-like body) has many claims to fame: it's possibly the first space-f...rame chassis vehicle in the world, one of the earliest front-wheel-drive racecars, and has one of the longest racing careers in Australian motorsports. It's one of the many 'Australian Specials', the one-off racecars built locally from an assortment of parts for competition in the era, but it is probably the only one that was built entirely from the ground up. The two young engineer brothers who built it, Bill and Bob Chamberlain, became known later in life for their successful tractor manufacturing company. This youthful creation, however, perfectly captures the spirit of ingenuity and excitement about technology that typified the 1920s and 30s. Take a look behind the wheel of the Chamberlain 8, at its intricate opposing-8-piston 4-cylinder engine and - if you're pressed for time - make sure you at least watch the last minute, with some recently unearthed footage of testing in 1928/9, kindly supplied by Mike Trickett.
