17.01.2022 Recently, a 12-year-old girl, who was known to have multiple food allergies - including an allergy to milk - experienced an anaphylactic reaction while at the d...entist. Thankfully, her very well-informed mother recognised her daughter was having an allergic reaction, and administered the EpiPen, which her daughter had been prescribed and which she carried everywhere. The staff called an ambulance and the girl was transported to hospital where she was observed for four hours, before making a full recovery. Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia, a charitable not for profit organisation that educates those with allergic disease and advocates on their behalf, advises individuals with food allergy to speak with their dentist prior to the appointment to check whether any products contain a specific allergen/s be used so an alternate product can be sourced as required. When at the appointment, the individual should again disclose their food allergy and all dental staff involved in their care should again check content of products to be used during the examination and any procedures. If you have any questions or require further information, contact Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia via www.allergyfacts.org.au or phone 1300 728 000. Here's hoping the Easter bunny brings you health and happiness this year! http://bit.ly/2VNwtv0

16.01.2022 Toothache? or another dental emergency? Help is available.

15.01.2022 Question: Do animals develop tooth decay and cavities? Answer: Animals generally don’t experience tooth decay and cavities, because they don’t eat sugar (or refined carbohydrates). That doesn’t mean they don’t have oral health problems though. Cats and dogs can develop plaque, tartar and gum disease, just like humans!

14.01.2022 Fluoride is important for healthy teeth! Make sure the water you’re drinking contains fluoride to help protect your teeth from cavities!

Data from Australia’s Oral Health Tracker shows more than 70 percent of chi...ldren aged 9-13 years are consuming too much sugar, and more than 73 percent of their 14-18-year-old counterparts are doing the same. That’s why as part of our partnership with Rethink Sugar Drink we’re asking Australian school children to vote on their favourite ads from around the world that highlight the health impacts of consuming sugary drinks. The Critics' Choice Competition will run throughout Term 3 this year, with prizes up for grabs for participating schools. For more information, visit http://bit.ly/2KEqbfu

08.01.2022 Merry Christmas to everyone celebrating! We hope you enjoy your day!

08.01.2022 DENTAL MYTH: Stop flossing when gums start to bleed The first sign of gum disease is bleeding gums. Due to lack of oral hygiene, the bacteria will inflame your gums. However, with the help of regular brushing and flossing, you will have healthier gums and they will hardly bleed.

08.01.2022 Hello December and hello Summer! Like if Summer is your favourite season!

08.01.2022 Are you going to get on Dental Claus' nice list from brushing AND flossing? Less than a month to go until Christmas!

07.01.2022 Paper towel might be helpful cleaning up in the kitchen, but did you know it’s NOT your friend when it comes to handling a tooth that’s been knocked out?! Tha...t’s right if you’re ever in the unfortunate position of dealing with a dental injury, don’t pick up the tooth with paper towel. It can dry it out. If an adult tooth is knocked out, it can be put back into its socket provided its clean. If the tooth is visually dirty, rinse it in some plain milk but don’t scrub it. If the tooth won’t go back in, it’s important to keep it from drying out. Always keep it moist by storing it in a small container with enough milk or saline to cover the whole tooth. Once that’s done, get to your dentist or hospital emergency department as soon as possible to see about getting the tooth replanted and stabilised. 06.01.2022 We hope you have happy and safe holidays! See you in 2019!

05.01.2022 Stuck on what to get someone for Christmas? Why not get them an electric toothbrush! Our hygienists recommend two kinds of Oral B Electric Toothbrushes. The Oral B Pro 2 (2000) is a great edition to your daily routine - it includes all the bells and whistles such as a pressure sensor and timer as well as a travel case. If bells and whistles aren't your thing they also recommend the Oral B Pro 500 which does still have a timer that comes in handy when remembering to brush for 2 minutes!

05.01.2022 They may look like fun quick and easy treats but do you know how much sugar is in a frozen drink? A LOT as this infographic makes clear, with the number of icy poles per drink really driving home how bad they are for your oral and overall health.

05.01.2022 We usually think of sugar as the white granules we spoon into coffee and tea or add to baking recipes. But sugar comes in many forms and they can all contribute to tooth decay. These are known as hidden sugars. Get sugar savvy at: https://www.ada.org.au/Dental-Health-Week-2020/Resources

05.01.2022 Got Mondayitis? We can’t fix that but we can fix a range of dental problems!

05.01.2022 Before you head out to watch the kids play sport this weekend, you know to pack some food, drinks and check the weather But would you know what to do if your ...child knocked out one of their adult teeth? Follow these tips to minimise long-term damage: 1. Locate the tooth as quickly as possible and handle it with care - always hold the tooth by the crown (top) and avoid touching the root. 2. If the tooth is dirty, clean it in milk. If milk is unavailable, rinse it in tap water but only for a second or two. DO NOT scrub the tooth or the root surface and avoid soaking it. 3. Try placing the tooth back in its socket - making sure it’s facing the right way round and in the right place. (If it's a baby tooth, don’t try to place it back in.) Once it’s in, gently bite down on a clean piece of soft cloth or tissue to help keep the tooth in place. 4. If the tooth is wobbly, fold a small piece of aluminium foil over the area to keep it in place. If you have a custom fitted mouthguard, put it into the mouth to stabilize the traumatized tooth. 5. If you can’t get the tooth back in, don’t force it. Keep the tooth moist at all times by storing it in a clean small container with a small amount (enough to cover the whole tooth) of milk or saliva. DO NOT place the tooth in water or wrap it in tissue or cloth as this will dry out the tooth and can reduce the chance of it reattaching. 6. Take your child to the dentist as soon as possible, ideally within 30 minutes. The sooner the tooth is replaced, the greater the likelihood it will survive.
