22.01.2022 DISCOUNT CAT DESEXING FOR RESIDENTS OF THE LITHGOW CITY COUNCIL AREA. OPERATION CAT LITHGOW $50 only for desexing, vaccination and microchipping... For a limited time, the Cat Protection Society is offering $50 cat desexing plus F3 vaccination for health care card holders and pensioners who are residents of the Lithgow City Council area. Thanks to the generous support of Lithgow City Council, cats will also be microchipped at no extra charge. Desexing provides many health benefits to cats, including a reduced risk of cancers and less risk of disease and injury. Early-age desexing before four months prevents the development of unwanted behaviours such as spraying and also means the cat is less likely to wander and get into fights with other cats. The F3 vaccination protects against the deadly parvovirus, and microchipping your cat or kitten is the first step in having them registered and ensuring if they are ever lost, they can be reunited with you. Unless you’re a registered breeder, there is no reason not to desex your cat and many, many good reasons to desex them. And right now, there’s the added bonus of a financial reason: with Operation Cat, you’ll be saving $100 to $200! said Kristina Vesk OAM, Cat Protection CEO. This is our fourth Operation Cat in partnership with Lithgow City Council and local veterinarians at Bowenfels Vet Clinic, Hartley Vet and Animal Centre and Lithgow Veterinary Hospital. Working with the local community, we’re making a real difference to feline welfare in Lithgow. No one wants to see stray cats and kittens, or cats and kittens euthanased simply because there aren’t enough homes. Desexing is the only humane solution to feline overpopulation. Together we can keep cats and kittens safe and healthy, improve local amenity and protect wildlife, Ms Vesk said. Bookings for Operation Cat must be made by first phoning Cat Protection on 02 9519 7201 (Monday to Friday between 10am and 5pm). The program is limited to 80 places and to qualify, cat owners must be residents of Lithgow City Council and hold an Australian Government issued Health Care Card and make payment at the time of booking their place in the program. Operation Cat starts on Monday 2 November 2020 and concludes on 29 January 2021 or when 80 cats have been booked in, whichever occurs sooner.

14.01.2022 Hartley’s New Playground Opening A small group gathered on Tuesday 10 November 2020 to celebrate the opening of the newly installed children’s playground at th...e Hartley Historic School site. The playground will give the community of Hartley a place to gather while keeping the young ones entertained. These works were funded through Council’s Village Improvement Plan and with the assistance of Hytech Quarries. Mayor of Lithgow City Council Ray Thompson said about the playground It’s so great to see the community coming together, the land managers of the site are working hard to improve the facilities to make them more useful to the people in their community. We are encouraged by groups within the villages of our LGA who come to us with plans and ideas for improving their villages. The village improvement plans are part of Council’s commitment to support the development of needed community infrastructure in the rural villages. In consultation with communities, Council continues to make improvements to the outlying rural villages of Hartley, Tarana, Capertee, Cullen Bullen and Rydal.
14.01.2022 ROAD CLOSURE - JENOLAN CAVES RD Five Mile section of Jenolan Caves Road to close due to weather Motorists are advised a section of Jenolan Caves Road (commonly ...referred to as Five Mile) from the intersection with Boggy Creek Road through to Jenolan Caves House will be closed due to wet weather from 5pm today. The road closure will be in place due to the expected amount of rainfall forecast and the ongoing instability of the slopes in the area due to bushfires. The closure will be reassessed tomorrow. Motorists should plan ahead and avoid this section of Jenolan Caves Road while the closure is in place. Alternative road access to Caves House will be on Jenolan Caves Road via Edith Road from Oberon (commonly referred to as Two Mile Road) which is limited to 12-seat buses, with no trailers and caravans. The geometry makes it unsafe for vehicles larger than a 12-seat bus to use this section of the road. Transport for NSW thanks motorists for their patience during this time. 04.01.2022 Exactly 12 months ago today, the huge Gospers Mountain Fire started from a lightning strike north-west of Sydney. The fire burned for almost 80 days, and became... the biggest forest fire in Australia's recorded history. One year on, the fire has left a heart-wrenching scar on both the landscape and the communities it tore through. This is what climate change looks like. In just a few days, the Royal Commission will hand down its findings into the 2019-20 bushfire season, and it's imperative that it clearly acknowledges the role of climate change in fuelling the 2019-20 bushfires. Share this video to spread the word, and to continue pushing for strong, meaningful and effective action on climate change in Australia. https://climc.nl/311P22u
04.01.2022 At this stage we will be open this weekend 9 am to 5 pm. With the school holidays over we expect there to be less people around - however, if it gets too busy a...nd we are unable to control social distancing we will CLOSE. A lot of families and friends have been meeting up here and coming in together in groups of 10 or more - this is causing some anxiety for other customers and for our staff. Please, if possible, come in in your own family group. While we are allowed 40 plus people in the shop at one time it is more comfortable for everyone if the numbers are kept well below that and groups are small. In the event that we do close a post will be put up on this Facebook page. Thank you for your understanding and your co-operation - we know that this is a challenging time for everyone and we appreciate your support. Have a wonderful weekend. The Lolly Bug team. See more

The coldest weather is expected over the weekend when daytime temperatures may drop more than 4-8C below average for many locations. Snow is expected, some locations will start feeling the chill from Wednesday as the vigorous winds will make conditions feel even colder. Damaging winds, meaning winds strong enough to potentially bring down trees or powerlines, are a risk from Wednesday as the first strong front crosses the state. Very windy conditions are likely to continue through to the weekend as further fronts move through. Road conditions will vary in many areas of the LGA during this expected weather event.
