25.01.2022 Another pic of the Tasmanian Wedge-tailed Eagle that flew past me on Wednesday. Checking me out.
25.01.2022 These are angasi oysters (Ostrea angasi). They are endemic to southern Australia and are a sand or mud dwelling oysters. I love em! They are firmer than the int...roduced Pacific oyster and the the best thing about them is that they wash up on the beach in front of our place! (I had one for entre tonight!) See more
24.01.2022 Red rock on A Tassie shore.
23.01.2022 A passion of mine is to study distant cloud formations with a big lens to record the detail. Like this.
23.01.2022 Try as she might, this female Superb Fairywren could not budge this grub in a log today!
23.01.2022 It's Wrensday, so of course, a Fairywren pic. Caption: HIM; But I told you I loved you! HER; Yes, but what about all those other women you are chasing!....PS. Fairywrens are very promiscuous and our resident male has suddenly got 3 girls on the tow instead of the normal one.
22.01.2022 Fascinated by this Grey Currawong this morning. It's hunt for food included it checking out this pipe for spiders.
22.01.2022 The cliffs near home include some spectacular Dolerite stacks. The one on the right is 'the monument' at approx 45metres high, and the one attached to the cliff on the left is 'the fickle finger' (of fate).
20.01.2022 I snapped this Tasmanian Thornbill this arvo on an old tank in the bush near home. A beautiful example of this Tassie endemic.
19.01.2022 Rockpools are wonderful places!
19.01.2022 It's spring and although it's a bad feather day, this female Superb Fairywren is anouncing "I'm in the mood for love"!
16.01.2022 Nice to have a storm front come in the other day. Reminded me of the ones we had in the Kimberley by10. Missing the tropical storms.
14.01.2022 Not a pic from today but we are having similar winter weather on Sth Bruny Island at the moment. Forecast is snow down to an elevation of 100m, min 1C max 5C. Hopefully some snow pics tomoz.
13.01.2022 It's been a while since my last decent pink robin pic. (Petroica rodinogaster) This fella was busy admiring himself in a roadside pool on Sth. Bruny Island today.
13.01.2022 Finally got some pics of the grey fantail (Rhipidura albiscapa) with its tail in full fan. Boy do these fellas flit around!
11.01.2022 Nankeen Kestrel, on a beach far away.
10.01.2022 One of my favourite pic taken today whilst spinning on my back amongst the rocks with camera in hand near home, of three White bellied Sea eagles having some mock fights.
09.01.2022 These pics show the habitat in which I photographed the Scrubtit in my last post. Beautiful vegetation including Snow gums, Pandanus and bright red berries(???). The Pandanus (Richea pandanifolia) is endemic to Tasmania.
09.01.2022 There is a lot of things happening under a short spined sea urchin (Heliocidaris erythrogramma) They are endemic to Tasmania.
07.01.2022 Well hello der!
06.01.2022 Dreadies suit this Tasmanian Wedge tail Eagle.
05.01.2022 Lots of upside down talons in yesterday's mock fights. Mid air ballerinas with sharp bits these fellas!
04.01.2022 The scrubtit (Acanthornis magna) is one of the 12 endemic bird species found in Tasmania. It has also proved to be the most difficult for me to find and photogr...aph! After over 10 years trying for this shot, I finally managed to on Friday. Of course it wasn't easy to the end! Seeing it with my camera tucked up nice and warm in my vehicle a good slog away through the snow, meant that by the time I returned, spectacles and viewfinder fogged up at any attempt at a pic. Luck was on my side with this pic of the illusive bird on a beautifully coloured Snow gum with a hint of snow/ice tucked in a crevice. See more
02.01.2022 The ever present, amicable bird of everywhere in Australia but only rarely seen as a vagrant in Tasmania is the Willie Wagtail (Rhipidura leucophrys)
01.01.2022 I was at a friend's property today who planted trees there over 30 years ago. Amongst them were some Eucalyptus viminalis or Manna Gum. Luckily for this cute l...ittle fella, the forty-spotted pardalote (Pardalotus quadragintus) one of Australia's rarest birds and by far the rarest pardalote, (confined to the south-east corner of Tasmania), manna is their favourite food.
