22.01.2022 I was compelled to write this article in the face of changed personal and professional work experiences as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. In it, I identify the relevance of trauma informed practice to the work we do while being personally impacted in these changed times. Would love to hear your thoughts on the application of trauma informed practice to organisations in the midst of the current workforce trauma. https://www.linkedin.com//navigating-workforce-trauma-suza

18.01.2022 As we approach a community that will look different with the introduction of compulsory masks this evening in Victoria, I noticed myself becoming anxious. I was focusing on how I will do my work with this additional barrier, the experience and distraction of mask, as well as what it means to the people I am working with who will miss many of the facial cues that let them know I am hearing them and am with them. It was timely that a trusted friend and colleague shared this article about mindfully preparing ourselves to don the mask, and manage the experience. I will be trying these tips and strategies tomorrow. https://www.mindful.org/a-mindfulness-practice-for-wearing/

13.01.2022 Nearly 4 weeks ago we went into lockdown. I shared how we as a family would measure the passing of time through lockdown by planting tulip bulbs in a vase and watching them grow. Note I am not a gardener and have zero talent in this area so it was with trepidation that we proceeded. Several weeks on it is hard not to wax lyrical about the process. Two bulbs have stubbornly refused to grow, staying dormant and signing off until next year (who can blame them - bring on 2021!). ...Others have been slow growing and are just starting to show their little roots while others have flourished and are reaching for the sky. It has been a nice metaphor for the individual ways we are surviving in these changed times. I beam at those bulbs that are thriving, to those that are slowly emerging, I say is come on little guys you can do it, and to those that are completely dormant I sit with deep understanding. While my kids are still hopeful of a bloom in the next two weeks, I continue to watch in awe and with compassion for the journey we are all on, even my little bulbs. #covd19 #mentalwellbeing #wereallinthistogether #resilience #success #gratitude

11.01.2022 So this Wednesday we went into lockdown. For the next 6 weeks, our family will be relying on each other and while there have been many wonderful things that have come from reconnecting, this time will also test us. It is tempting to count the days until the next step of whatever is coming comes, but we found another way to count with each family member planting a tulip bulb in a vase. In 4-6 weeks, we will hopefully have a beautiful flower as well as something to let us know ...we are reaching the end of this time. Having something to care for, be mindful with and become a milestone of the days passing will hopefully inspire us to stay focused on what matters and the growth that can happen. It could also go pear shaped as I am not known for my gardening skills, but that too is the uncertainty, magic and hopefully optimism of this wonderful life. Wish me luck - stay safe! #mentalwellbeing #wereallinthistogether #covd19 #resilience

08.01.2022 I could not be more excited to launch the Facebook page for Harvest Wellbeing with the announcement of our first not-for-profit event, an evening with eminent parenting expert, Andrew Fuller. Andrew provides practical advice delivered with compassion. With the Australian Institute of Family Studies reporting that in 2016, 61% of children under 18 live in a household where both parents work, the relationship between our parenting skills and our ability to thrive at work is in...extricably connected as anyone who has managed the chaotic drop off only to arrive in the office and have to work hard to shift gears and put aside all that has come before to focus on the challenges of the day. A few simple tips can enhance our experience both at home and work, and I look forward to hearing Andrew's thoughts on how we can achieve this.
