23.01.2022 Welcome Spring. @ellisbutchers1954 this week. Talk to us about transforming & enlivening your space, with local, seasonal botanicals (fresh or dried). In our 29th year of working in the visual arts, public art & installation art, we specialise in working sculpturally & creatively, in response to spaces & contexts, whatever the scale.

23.01.2022 Getting bridal & Spring-y on the studio veranda last week (sort of, in an apron & with uncut stems...). This one had a pastel brief, to go with lemon cuttings decorating the aisle, especially for someone who works with local plants & the bush.

The dying back & breaking down, the decay & the dormancy, the budding & then bursting forth - an explosion of majestic colour & life-force.... Drink up the sensory nourishment of a tapestry of colour, texture, scent & form highlighting the inherent beauty of the natural world. And welcome yourself Home... The float is loaded & we are installing today & tomorrow @hahndorfacademy with the fabulous @gooseberryhillflowers @evebud & @rebeccamcewan.artist Wednesday Oct 7 to Sunday Oct 18 Come for Soulful, Spatial, Sculptural Wildness & Reconnection, Abundance, Enchantment & an exploration of Awe.

23.01.2022 I cannot tell you how exciting it was to be creating to a context & transforming the experience of a local space again yesterday; total joy. Healing & nourishment was the brief (for the times) for what is unfurling from those cooking & crock pots, with a fair whack of life-force & vitality thrown in... It might be amazing if instead of always looking to go elsewhere (to escape) for a restorative & wondrous experience, we chose to invest more attention in making our everyday ...spaces & experiences more soulful, vital & connected with the wonders of nature around us...as a meaningful expression of who we are & where we are at, at any given time. @ Ellis Butchers

23.01.2022 Fence camouflage for a recent 50th...reworked a fortnight later for their daughter’s 18th.

20.01.2022 I have actually been totally disabled about how to use social media for good, as a business & an artist, since watching @thesocialdilemma I have no words and no plan of how to move forward yet...(in light of more confronting information than I even imagined, about new technologies). In the meanwhile, while I figure out my position, here is our veranda stall stocked up with local loveliness. As the temperature increases, these offerings will be hardy materials only, & a small...er number available each arvo/pm/weekend. To get something lush or bespoke (& therefore more fabulous/meaningful), please order ahead. And live well & enjoy the sunshine in the meanwhile...

20.01.2022 Nearly the last @womadelaide snippets...(I am now the proud owner of many a retro suitcase). 12.01.2022 When we clean up the dried storage areas; & why...

12.01.2022 Saying farewell to Autumn/ Winter tones, so we can welcome in full-bore Spring-iness from tomorrow...woo hoo!

12.01.2022 Autumnal harvest celebration installed yesterday, with a nod to Easter/Oestre... Having grown up in the Vale, what I always love about installing @ellisbutchers1954 is the conversations that are triggered with passers by about the materials & what I am doing; on this occasion, lovely chats with older women about preserving & never wanting to see another fig, from making so much fig jam & chutney in one’s life! Was so happy (some time ago) to find these preserving jars still labelled from prior use, and to feature a crate from my grandparent’s business. Every time I use these familiar things, I am plugged back in to where I am from, where I live, & where I belong.

11.01.2022 And don’t think the garden loses its ecstasy in Winter. It’s quiet but the roots are down there riotous. Rumi... The first-picked & only bunch of ranuculus from the fabulous @gooseberryhillflowers from the week before last...sigh. Bring it on Winter. @ McLaren Vale, South Australia

11.01.2022 So lovely to be creating again this week in response to some of our amazing local venues...many of them reopening this long weekend. May you enjoy, again, the unique experiences on offer at some of our leading local venues. @ Samuel's Gorge

11.01.2022 Where we live, harvest & play...as the world wakes up again (sort of, & perhaps).

10.01.2022 Old wood and fresh blooms rest in warm companionship on a sculptor’s bench Autumnal centrepiece by us, original Haiku by local writer Samara Mitchell.... Commission your own personalised Haiku to order: follows the traditional 17 syllables (usually in 3 lines of 5|7|5), usually references the season, or a natural element, and infers deeper meaning without obvious metaphors or similie. Magic. Provide us with your unique context for your personalised botanical sculpture & poem to accompany it. @ McLaren Vale, South Australia

10.01.2022 Recent late Spring bunches... We are currently taking orders for festive bunches heading into December & Summer, & booking in advance for Christmas is advisable so we can source & curate the best outcomes for you. Ideally, phone ahead for us to make you something specific (& potentially more delicate or lush) for you to collect.

09.01.2022 Soft wood snakes sideways green flames run along the vine To feed sleeping fruit Spring Haiku by our writer in residence @madame_abattoir ... Bespoke bunches to order by the Harvest Studio team; 9-12 Monday to Friday (minimum hours). Veranda sales if you miss us.

09.01.2022 Winter farewell flowers for a well-loved local, who loved pink & liked it loud. Creating a rambling, garden-like landscape from local materials was our conceptual response. A bespoke, mid-Winter, sculptural, spatial hero-ing of good local things... @ McLaren Vale, South Australia

08.01.2022 To the class of 2020, Willunga Waldorf School, the most amazing group of young people that I know. Graduating this week, they designed, planned, sourced (mostly from their own gardens) & created, an amazing spatial response for their recent formal (assisted by a smattering of adults, including myself). You lot are rockstars (or whatever you want to be) in the making. Go forth & bring even more wondrous experiences into the world...

07.01.2022 Designing dried or fresh, local responses for interesting spaces is our specialty; including installations & whole-site experiences to transform an environment. You can also bring a vessel to the studio for us to fill to your brief...to enliven your own world (or that of another). The fabulous @capricornia_sa @dowiedoole / @scholz.oli local spaces pictured here, plus a customer’s vessel at the studio, waiting to be collected (while teen studies). Always a delight to respond conceptually, holistically & soulfully to the spaces & initiatives of people we respect & love! @ Capricornia_SA

06.01.2022 When parents, children & creatives work together...(mostly) From our herbal flower crown/wreath workshop for the Willunga Chilli Festival held in late Summer this year. Thanks @_ruby_jones for flexible artistic & child-wrangling support. We are looking forward to community events in our lovely village again soon... @ Willunga, South Australia

06.01.2022 Okay. We have nearly recovered from the epic week revolving around Mother’s Day 2020...& will start to share some of the lovely or unusual local offerings that went out into the world from our studio. Like the 6 earthy, natural looking bunches ordered here, from one man, to the 6 mothers in his extended family; his Mother, Mother-in -law, sisters & sister-in-laws. A loving, respectful & generous gesture for sure... @ Harvest Studio

06.01.2022 Bespoke almost Spring, sculptural, local flowers to order...this one, a centrepiece for a recent birthday gathering. Plus, more orders awaiting collection or delivery out the back yesterday. And, our roadside stall/ studio veranda filled with daily offerings at various price points (for when you have not organised a bespoke response).

06.01.2022 Thank you Coorong...for the balance of humans & nature to be reversed for a few days, for diverse kinds of fluffy things everywhere(!) aka fluffies, for baby emus drinking nearby, for roos mostly ignoring us, for the many small creatures, amazing bird life & birdsong, for walks, bathing, sunrises, sunsets, & the wind & waves. For perfect camping weather, some quiet & time away from clocks & technology of many kinds. And to the natural world, my eternal muse, for endless connection, inspiration, & always more landscapes & awe-inspiring experiences to bring into being.

06.01.2022 Love this time of year on home turf...these are the almond trees across the road from the house I grew up in. It warms my heart to see them still doing their Winter-cheer spectacular thing. And we do love a bit of blossom woven into a wild arrangement... And for all those who have expressed interest in being part of our flowersmithing, flower-wrangling & sometimes flower-whispering team, we will get back to you sometime next week.

05.01.2022 Sprawling local gorgeousness in blackberry, raspberry & deep red tones, for the launch of a fabulous sparkling red @samuels_gorge last weekend. In their words, We were SO stoked with the installation, thank you =)))). Home to surely one of the best views around town & a fabulous team of creative people. And, obviously, some darn good wine. ... Fabulous food for the event by @comida_hahndorf

05.01.2022 Recent bespoke studio work (still a few Wintery pics to share). Phone us ahead of time to get the most fabulous materials collected & put aside for you. We do spectacular botanicals for every occasion & context - one of yesterday’s orders was to repair goodwill with a partner; as the orderer explained she’s pissed off with me. ... We revamped our veranda/roadside stall this week too, to make it more possum, wind, sun & rain resilient! Check it out if you are in the Vale.

04.01.2022 Elements from our Frida Kahlo inspired recent wedding, with local, seasonal materials, & the delightful Mexican bride. A total joy to engage with this brief...just wait until you see the wild arbour (soon).

04.01.2022 Sometimes it’s really all about the tree (& we suggested non-arbour/ installation alternatives to frame & hero the tree more next time). What I loved about this install was seeing the tonal relationships between the colours of the feature gum tree & the earthy palette of local materials. Arbour details from an Autumn Equinox wedding; the bride wanted things natural, wild & not too flower heavy, with her bouquet being the spark of colour & lushness for the event. With thanks... to @rebeccamcewan.artist for support on the day. AND a reminder we are closed for Autumn Break; the veranda is stocked with fresh materials until Monday night, & then Autumnal dried offerings until we reopen on Monday April 19th.

03.01.2022 Bespoke local flowers, foliage & foragings to order for pick up or delivery (local, metro or greater fleurieu), whatever your context. One of these sent from Paris, with love, to a local. One of the delights of global connectedness is the chats we get from interesting people from all over the world & Australia-wide. And I so love that someone bought the last of our almond blossom as a rather large bunch...... Wonderful too to have a mix of fellow creatives @rebeccamcewan.artist @evebud & Lisa as studio support at the moment, preparing for Spring. Go team @ McLaren Vale, South Australia

02.01.2022 People are still getting married around here, in all sorts of wonderful & creative ways... This couple, a flashback to late last year, before the newness of now. @whiteorchideventsadelaide... @ivoryfoxphotography @ Adelaide, South Australia

02.01.2022 Wet, green, footprints weave across a blanket of frost A foragers trail Happy Winter Solstice from the weekend...enjoy your longer days & shorter nights, as we move more towards Summer now.
