22.01.2022 Just a little one this morning from a wedding bush....maybe 15,000 at a guess. Now settling in to their transport box for shifting to the apiary tonight once they are all safely inside.

22.01.2022 Nice selection of Spring Blossom, Coastal Blend (Jarrah with a hint of Peppi giving a nice light tang to it). Both at $10 kg. Marri (Redgum), Eucalyptus blend of late Jarrah & early Marri (blended by the bees) at $12 kg.

21.01.2022 Another swarm housed safely. They are not always easy to collect! Thanks to a lovely caring lady who noticed them on her morning walk and called me. These will join my apiary and beee happy, no longer at risk of settling where they would not be appreciated.

21.01.2022 A view of the inside of a wild hive that took over a possum box. Note the comb drawn and spacing. Our modern Langstroth design bee hives mirror these bee spaces. I removed this and placed all into a managed hive...result? Happy bees and a possum box that will be restored and hung in an appropriate tree. A win for the bees and hopefully the possums will take advantage of this freed up breeding "hollow".

08.01.2022 Swarming season has arrived. Picture of a swarm collected today and successfully housed. Video following this post (in comments) shows bees happily fanning at their new entrance telling the rest of the swarm that their queen is inside and come on in . This video taken less than 10 mins from the swarm being housed.

08.01.2022 2 swarms rehoused today. One under a trampoline, the other on a fence. Both now happy in their new hive and joining our apiary. Swarms will eventually move on but not necessarily to where they are welcome. It could be in the eaves of your house or your neighbours house or on your verandah/patio furniture... I've removed them from BBQ's, and garden furniture, underneath a patio table and farm machinery. If they settle in it can be a more difficult task and on occasion impossi...ble to remove them without risk to the bees. Always best to call & have a swarm removed before they choose to make their new home where you dont want them. 0428 938 948. Check out the video of one of yesterdays swarm moving into the transfer box once I have placed the queen from the swarm in there and they sense her pheromone and join her.

03.01.2022 Swarm season fast approaching. With next weeks warm weather forecast, I'm expecting the first of this springs swarms to appear. They will land in the most unlikely and often inconvenient place! Dont "encourage" them to move on as you risk being stung if you do. Swarms are normally fairly docile and are an easy job for an experienced bee keeper to remove to a new home.... If you do find a swarm and would like it removed then please call me and I will happily remove them safely and rehouse them. Some pictures as examples of where they often choose to cluster whilst scout bees look for a new home...like your bbq or verandah furniture or eaves of houses. The sooner you call for removal the less chance of them taking up residence where you dont want them.

01.01.2022 Shockwaves are vibrating through the Australian beekeeping industry with an announcement by Hive and Wellness formerly Capilano limited they will resume importi...ng honey. Beekeepers are furious at the decision that is likely to have an effect on the wholesale domestic honey price. The honey price has increased since the Corporation stopped selling Allowrie brand that contained Chinese ingredients. https://www.google.com.au/a/amp.abc.net.au/article/10187628 In the announcements you can read below Hive and wellness under its new ceo Ryan d’Almeida said the imported honey will be sourced from South America and blended with some Australian honey. They new cheap honey would be sold under the brand Cloverdale and will be available at Woolworths and other supermarkets. https://mailchi.mp/hivew/decision-regarding-imported-honey Australian beekeepers, some that are recovering from bushfires and drought need all the help they can get. Please only buy 100 percent Australian honey and demand Woolworths stop selling this imported crap. Please sign the petition http://change.org/honeylabelling Please continue to support your local beekeeper you can find them on the honeymap. https://www.beethecure.com.au/honey-map-2/ Please share so consumers boycott this product and buy 100 percent Australian honey.

01.01.2022 Two today...fantastic Spring for our bees. The Spring of 2018 followed by the Autumn of 2019 was a hard time for many of our honey bees, so many colonies did not make through the 2019 winter. As a consequence very few bee swarms occurred this time last year.... Spring last year followed by a fantastic display of the Marri in full bloom in February and March of this year meant honey bee colonies over wintered well and swarms are bountiful right now. Swarms are how honey bees repopulate. Its a natural occurrence at this time of year. Don't be alarmed be thankful that bee colonies are strong. They are responsible for pollination of approximately 30% of the world's food supply. Always best to have a swarm rehoused to a well managed Apiary before they colonise your house eaves, ceilings or garden furniture.
