09.01.2022 Queensland is not the first state when you think of Wine in Australia, however, you do not have to go far from the capital city of Brisbane to discover beautiful wineries. This past week I had the opportunity to visit Albert River Wines which is located a 60-minute drive from the Brisbane CBD or a 45-minute drive from Broadbeach on the Gold Coast. Upon arriving at the vineyard, you can see the beautiful old buildings which sit on top of the hill overlooking the valley. These... buildings are part of Queenslands history, so take the time to have a look around. As you make your way to the top of the hill you will see working parts of the farm, signs to the chapel, however, keep to the right if you are like me and were wanting to head straight for the cellar door especially as I arrived a little too late for the Devonshire tea and scones. With the cellar door open seven days week from 10am 4pm you can participate in a tasting that includes 7 Wines for $5 per person (which equates to approx. 1 standard drink). The wines I tasted included the following (however I cannot recall the years off the top my head and their website does not have the tasting list that I had in the cellar door to help jog my memory): Sparkling White Chardonnay Jacaranda White Shiraz Merlot The Shearing Shed Red Concluding with the Sparkling Red The price point of each bottle is between $20 - $35 which is fair and reasonable and while I usually would pick up a bottle of Shiraz, this time I left with a bottle of the Shearing Shed Red described as Estate grapes, blended for easy drinking, An off-dry, full-flavor which tasted just as it was described. The cellar door is complemented by a restaurant with different options available including lunch specials from 11:30am - 2:30pm that includes a 2 Course ($39) or a 3 course ($49) option. Along with the wine Albert River Wines also conducts tours, hosts functions or could host your dream wedding. You can find them at 869 Mundoolun Connection Road, Tamborine. Albert River Wines is worth stopping at next time you drive past or want a nice place to take your parents for lunch. https://www.albertriverwines.com.au/ #alberriverwines #tourismqld #wine #weddings #history #tamborine #southeastqld #canungra
