23.01.2022 This afternoon we attended our first whole school assembly, as it was (H)’s year group assembly. We set ourselves up early in a decent spot and came well prepared with snacks, toy cars and colouring books. The children weren’t really interested in what was going on, they wanted to catch a glimpse of (H) & (J) and when Christmas songs were being played they enjoyed singing and dancing. #schoolassembly #communityevent #christmassongs #whaygoesoninourcommunity #supportingourfriends

17.01.2022 ! I love watching the children play today (well every day) but today just amazed me, i love being able to provide loose parts and open ended resources for the children to create with. (H) & (J) initiated play with the peg dolls and stacking boxes and (K) wanted the ‘house blocks’ - they all sat together and created a house for the peg people or placed the peg people inside the stacking boxes. ... When (E) came into care, she stacked the boxes on top of each other and (K) asked for the loose parts tinker tray. They added rings to the boxes for ‘eyes and mouth’ to create a ‘robot’. Then (W) & (K) noticed the buttons & thread in the tinker tray and they began threading the buttons onto the thread. (E) & (A) joined in and also engaged in threaded the bobbins. (K) then started stacking the stacking boxes again and added various peg people. It’s a house (E) shouted. So the (E) & (K) placed various resources into each box. ‘It can have a forest next to it’, said (W) collecting the natural wooden blocks. (K) (E) & (W) then added various wooden animals, felt fairies and unicorns to the set up. Throughout the day all the children engaged with this set up, manipulating the resources, creating imaginary play and engaging in play together! - We left it set up to engage with tomorrow - : Grimm’s: Friend’s (peg people), House blocks, stacking boxes, large threading game, stepped roofs, celebrationg ring decorations, large bobbins Grapat: Adult and Baby Nins Ostheimer: various animal figurines natural wooden blocks #loosepartsplay #evolvingplay #openendedplay #woodenresources #creatingtogether

16.01.2022 Everyday this week I was asked, Are we going to KinderGym? No, not until Thursday, was my reply and it was met with some grumpy replies!! So to say Thursday was exciting for all, is an understatement (E) (W) (D) & (K) were off exploring as soon as the door opened! (E) & (K) challenged themselves on the green climbing frame and remembered the skills that had achieved yesterday and were able to repeat them again. ... (W) found the large foam cubed blocks and added some green mates and cylinder foam blocks, Look is a choo choo train he told me. (E) & (K) then joined him in role play with his set up. (D) (E) (K) & (W) all took turns on an arch shaped foam block, creating a see- saw with it. One child would sit on it whilst the other pushed it up and down to ‘rock’ it. Becky even helped (W) have his turn. (E) (K) & (D) took interest in throwing balls into buckets. I then initiated a game of rolling the ball to each other witj (E), we repeated the rolling action a couplr of times before she created her own game of rolling the ball in to the bucket turn on its side. #kindergym #westcoastgymnasticsinc #physicalactivity #grossmotorskills #challengingabilities #creatingplay

16.01.2022 ! (H) & (J)’s school celebrate Manx Day - the celebration of the founding of the school! Each year they have a different theme - this year was ‘Australiana’, we had a Bluey and a Lifeguard! (W) & (K) joined in the dress ups as Spiderman and Anna from Frozen. ... The school has an assembly, costume parade for each year group & teachers and various fun activities to celebrate. We dropped the boys off to their classrooms and headed down to grab a spot for the parade. (W) (E) (K) & (D) enjoyed dancing to the music preformed by the Australian Bush Band - Mucky Duck. We waited as long as we could for the parade but the children were getting restless, so we headed off. #manxday #manxday2020 #schoolcelebration #costume #australiana #dressup #dancing #bluey #lifeguard #selfexpression #australianbushband #playbasedlearning #openendedplay #play #learn #imagine #explore #grow #fun #familydaycare #familydaycarewa #familydaycareperth #familydaycareaustralia #familydaycareprovider #fdc #hfdc #easternregionfdc #educatorsofinstagram #fdcideas #myfamilydaycare Bluey felt mask, ears and tail made by Inspired by Ashton - Handmade Nursery Decor

15.01.2022 ’ !’ 19 ’ ’!(Talk Like a Pirate Day, nationally recognised as the major fundraiser for Childhood Cancer Support, is an opportunity to polish ye hook and say AHOY there, me hearties to all ye mateys, school crew and work mates. Join other schools, childcare centres, community groups, individuals and workplaces to support families and children living with cancer - https://www.talklikeapirateday.com.au/ ) Over the... last 2 weeks we have been digging for treasures in our sand and mudpit! It started off with Ooshie treasures, as they are hot property atm and then some Pirate gold coins. The children dug for treasure with their hands or spades, collected as much treasure as they could before reburying them. These actions were repeated throughout the 2 weeks by all children. (H) & (J) collected all the pirate gold coins in a bucket. (H) wondered how many coins there were altogether, so he set them out on a wooden beam. Lining up 10 coins in a row, creating 5 rows of 10. That makes 50 coins he said. Then started another group of 10 by 5 lines. That makes another 50 coins he said. 50 plus 50 make 100 said (J). They then both count in 10’s to 100. There were some coins left over, so (H) set them out for counting and got 37. So there was 137 total of pirate coins. The sandpit was also set up as a ‘pirate ship’, with a bow, back deck and a plank - so the children could walk the plank into shark water! (W) & (K) pretended to be sharks swimming. ’ ’ #talklikeapirateday #pirates #apiratelife #diggingfortreasure #piratetreasure

We explored the Aboriginal culture by setting up a display with various books and resources to explore and create discussion. We listened to traditional Dreamtime music and watched the Play School episode ‘Acknowledgment of Country’ to extend our knowledge and understanding. ... We sat together to read our book ‘Bush Tracks’ by Ros Moriarty and discussed the many patterns that told the story. We extended this with a pattern making experience with using our @joguines_grapat mandala pieces on pieces of paper with the outline of an Australian animal. (O) (W) (K) & (D) were able to place various mandala pieces on their animal to express their individual interests. #naidocweek #naidoc2020 #acknowledgementofcountry #dreamtime #patterns #invitationtoplay #creatingdiscussion #playschool #creatingpatterns

14.01.2022 || ’’ (K) took interest in the yoga mat kept under the playroom couch, (H) & (W) soon had their own mat too - I said they could take them outside. Let’s go camping, suggested (H) (J) (H) (W) & (K) soon set to work setting up a ‘camping’ environment in the backyard. I supported them with providing them the teepee and obstacle course set up. The yoga mats and teepee was their sleeping area and the obstacle course was their cooking. ... (D) went between play set up and joined in where it took her interest. (J) added the BBQ. We need food, he said. So the all got to collecting items from our outdoor picnic area and used the ooshies & pirate coins as food. They soon wanted something else to pretend to be food and the flower petals from Nanna’s roses was the next option. They all collected a pot full before sharing them around. Later I asked them where had they going camping - Exmouth replied (J) On the beach, said (W) We saw sharks while we were there, said (H) #creatingplay #imaginaryplay #camping #backyardcamping

We mentioned it to (W)’s Day and he said he had seen one at the doctors recently. ... Today we read a book called ‘Dem Bones’. Which is the song ‘dem bones’ but in book form. So we followed the pages/song and pointed out on our own bodies where the bones were, when we sung about them. He’s ripped off his skin, (W) would say as bones would show on each page in different places. Once finished reading the book as a group, (W) sat down and went through the book again. ?! #skeletons #dembones #bones #supportingchildrensinterests #conversation #whatdoweknowaboutbones #playbasedlearning #learnthroughplay #openendedplay #play #learn #imagine #explore #grow #fun #familydaycare #familydaycarewa #familydaycareperth #familydaycareaustralia #familydaycareprovider #fdc #hfdc #easternregionfdc #educatorsofinstagram #fdcideas #myfamilydaycare

10.01.2022 >> << My friends know me too well one was getting rid of this cable reel and asked if I would like it for FDC. Of course i did, I’ve been on the hunt for one for ages! Why a wooden cable reel?! Well it’s a loose part on a larger scale for the children to create play with. Mainly for another natural resource we can use in our obstacle courses. A simple set up with a wooden beam and the children were challenging their balance whilst walking up the beam and then jumping from the reel.

02.01.2022 ’ || Today we went on a new adventure and tried Pia’s Place Playground at Whitemen Park! It was a massive park and I’m glad we had our friend Patrice (from Little Valley Learners FDC) and her two boys as extra eyes and our hi vis vest & tees came in handy too. ... The children LOVED exploring and challenging themselves on various structures. Climbing up rock walls, going down steep slides, (H) (J) & (W) braved climbing all the way to the top of the lighthouse and went down the long slide. Everyone had a go at the flying foxes numerous times. A yummy picnic lunch was a must and a special treat of an icy pole before we left (aka the only thing that would get them to leave ) !!

01.01.2022 Today we had a spontaneous visit from our friends at Little Valley Learners Family Daycare! Together we engaged in activities to continue the celebration of NAIDOC Week They brought along some books about of theres How the birds got colours Possum and Wattle: my big book of Australian words by Bronwyn Bancroft We listened to the stories and discussed the colours of the birds and what animals we could see in the book. They children enjoyed jumping around like ...kangaroos. We noticed lots of Aboriginal pattens in the illustrations of the books, so we extended this by setting up the tuff tray in the backyard with a layer of sand and collect some sticks to create stick drawings of various patterns the children to interest in creating. Patrice and I also support the children in wanting ‘write’ there names in the sand. (A) (K) & (E) explored the NAIDOC shelf display set up.
