20.01.2022 Outsource VS Employment It can be a dilemma for the Small Business Owner or Entrepreneur as to what’s the better way to go once the business takes off. Is another person required?... The basic overheads and costs are easily added up but the question is, what about office space and equipment required is there enough or will more of both be needed? Is the work seasonal or will the growth be a steady increase? What taxes and charges will there be? And another area that is usually overlooked is the personality of the Small Business Owner/Entrepreneur. Are they happy to have another person constantly in their presence or alternatively, can they trust and rely on someone who works from home? Will they have to hand over a key to the office can trust be assumed for this person immediately? If the tasks are limited, is a casual staff person best or is it best to contract? Things to consider when looking at increasing people for the business. Employment: When looking to have an employee, there are a set of rules that by law, must be followed. All too often, the employer takes on a staff person and overlooks the entitlements of the employee. A an actual cost cannot be added but it's best to look at it truthfully and rate it on a scale 1-10. Taxes can add up plus the accrued entitlements all need to have a value. Things such as sick leave, annual leave & loading (in some cases) as well as the long service leave. note: Fulltime employees are usually entitled to 1o sick days per year and 20 days of annual leave (plus leave loading) If there is a clear peak & low season in the business this can be difficult to take on someone permanently as opposed to casual terms especially if the cashflow will be affected. Outsourcing: While the initial cost may appear to be higher, it is important to calculate all hidden costs before making a decision. No employee taxes and hidden payments such as sick leave and annual leave. Online Business Managers/Virtual Executive assistants are self-employed therefore it's in their own best interest to work diligently because it’s their business that must be successful as well as the Small Business Owner’s. They have a vested interest to do well to be re-contracted for future work. Payment is simply a single payment per month that includes any taxes on an invoice. In summary, if the business is young and the owner is new to this arena, the simplest way to go is to contract someone as it takes up less of the business owner's time and less headaches.

13.01.2022 Travelling in La La Land. When we travel and especially to other countries, I usually have a couple of set rules that are meant to help keep safe and healthy. Sometimes though, these rules go right out the window which was the case with me on this trip.... I think mainly it's because I'm in 'la- la' land and on a 'travel' high. This day was the last day in Nah Trang Vietnam and because we caught up with some Aussie friends the night before, I was having a great time and still on that high. The friend suggested a great area to eat seafood that they go to all the time. (Did I mention that these friends have lived there for a few years?) Anywho, I did remind myself about my personal travel rules but, what the hey. I'll be fine. My friends have never had a bad experience there. BA BOW! Not only did I go against my travel rule no. 1, I forgot about rule no. 2. 1. DO NOT eat seafood when overseas. 2. ALWAYS go to cafes etc where there are a lot of people as the food should be fresher due to the high turnover of people. So, when we break out of this isolation, try to stay grounded and follow your rules because you have them for a reason.

07.01.2022 Shades of Grey In our Mastermind group today the topic of the personality trait of being Black & White (as opposed to Shades of grey) came up. Is being black and white the same as ‘rules are rules’? ... They’re in place for a reason so there’s no bending of them. Another saying is ‘a deal is a deal’ so no re-negging or changing after the fact. Is this a good business practice though? Black and white is a great practice when using numbers, the result will always be the same result. In the case of printing, Use a black ink or colour. The black will always be black ink although the colour of paper may not necessarily be white and may vary a bit. A zebra will always be black and white and the same goes for Magpies. Black and white. But when it comes to business it’s important to remember that there are multiple shades of grey (or cyan, yellow and magenta and blends ) and from this there are practices that are worth considering being flexible. This article gives some business points to consider based on the movie. https://www.americanexpress.com//6-business-lessons-from-/

03.01.2022 Keep Overheads Low The business is growing steadily and the statistics support the growth over the past couple of years but while the books look good, there are still ways to increase the profits as overheads can be reduced. Technology has allowed people to work from home in a capacity of the Virtual or Online Business Manager or Online Executive Assistant.... So, could your business support a change while continuing to grow? Options to reduce the costs are: Down-sizing the office. Relocating to smaller premises is defintitely a cost saver as they are based on per sq metreage. Do you have staff, moving on? Is it possible to Outsource/contract the Business Manager instead of employing again? Reasons to support contracting as opposed to employing is: The Online Business Manager covers all of the costs for their equipment. The time required to organize their invoices as opposed to all of the steps required for a staff member is more than halved. Plus, Employees are usually paid weekly or fortnightly, whereas a contracted Online Business Manager is usually monthly. Therefore, the time saved will allow you to focus on an income generating task. Combining these couple of changes and depending on the difference in office spaces, over a period of 1-2 years, the savings will be well worth the decision.
