24.01.2022 We were asked by DHHS recently to give them an update on how we were assisting the Community this year under the very tough restrictions based on us by Covid 19. The attached shows the amount of food relief, community assistance and community check in’s we have facilitated over the past 20 weeks. This is an outstanding effort by the staff and volunteers at the Hastings Community House and just goes to show what a little determination and dedication to a community can do. A huge thankyou to all our staff and regular volunteers, let’s see what we can achieve by years end.

Neighbourhood House week is a nationwide initiative to celebrate the role of neighbourhood houses and centres in the community. The most effective way to reduce loneliness is to make people feel connected to their community. Irene Verins, VicHealth.... In these difficult times, Community House’s have navigated social media, embraced new tech options and made inroads to keep communication with community members, via facebook, messenger groups, email and phonecalls. By default there's been alot of learning involved both at the House and with individuals. It has brought us all closer together than ever before and that certainly is a positive. 02.01.2022 As you may be aware, Premier Daniel Andrews announced some easing of restrictions this morning. Here is a summary of what today’s announcement means for neighbourhood houses. What remains the same: Neighbourhood houses should generally remain physically closed to the public Essential services that you have been delivering such as food relief, meal deliveries, childcare etc can continue.... What can neighbourhood houses now deliver? The following advice is taken from DHHS’s Sport, cultural and recreational activities restrictions webpage. As of 11.59pm on Tuesday 12 May, neighbourhood houses will be able to host or organise: Support meetings such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, men’s behaviour change groups, parent groups and youth groups etc. These should be restricted to groups of 10 people with 1.5 meters social distancing is in place. Outdoor recreational activities such as walking groups, tai chi and yoga classes - restricted to groups of 10 people and 1.5 meters apart. These must be outdoors. All indoor physical activity remains off bounds. These new provisions are a welcome relief and will be significant for many members of our community. We encourage neighbourhood houses, where they can, to start offering these services provided all social distancing and hygiene requirements can be adhered to. The department have made a point of mentioning that group lessons such as knitting or art cannot resume at this time. If you have any questions about these restricted services, contact us via messenger or email....hastingsch@bigpond com
