We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this decision may cause. Cancer Council and the Hastings Relay for Life committee are committed to ensuring the safety and comfort of all participants at our events. This has been paramount in us making this challenging decision. A new date will be announced ASAP and will likely be February/March 2020. 23.01.2022 IMPORTANT CHANGES TO HASTINGS RELAY FOR LIFE Our local community has witnessed first-hand the devastation within the Hastings region due to the recent and ongoing bushfire situation. The outpouring of support by our community both within the Hastings and throughout Australia has been both incredibly humbling and moving. This is illustrated by the significant funds donated to date and the sense of community spirit seen through the generosity and care for those who have been im...pacted. We are so proud of our community. Accordingly, our local Relay For Life volunteer committee, along with the support of Cancer Council NSW have made the challenging decision not to proceed with the Hastings Relay for Life for 2020. Whilst we appreciate that there has been a huge amount of anticipation from the public to support our event, we understand the pressure the community has been under. However, cancer never sleeps. We acknowledge that many people within our region are going through cancer and following the devastating effects of the fires, our support and services are needed now, more than ever. Therefore, with the support of our sponsors, we are hosting an event to ensure we honour our local survivors and carers with a morning tea event at a Oxley Oval, Port Macquarie. We will be holding a 3-hour long morning tea commencing at 9.30am on the same date as the Relay, Saturday 29 February. This event will be jam packed with; our survivors and carers ceremony, delicious morning tea, games, raffles, challenges, entertainment and much more. We have many prizes to be given away, including; a tablet, beauty packs, fishing trips, dining vouchers and hampers to name but a few! However, if you have purchased tickets for the Relay For Life 24-hour event these tickets are your entry to the morning tea. So, why not come along, show your support to our local survivors and carers of those living with cancer, enjoy a scrumptious morning tea and no doubt walk away with one of our hundreds of prizes. 06.01.2022 Our 2019 Ambassador - KELLY COWELL Kelly Cowell, Cancer Councils Hastings Relay For Life Ambassador cared for her Dad Grant, who after a number of misdiagnoses was finally diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiform 4 in August 2017. It was only when Kelly spoke to Cancer Councils Information and Support line 13 11 20 and their insistence that she keep pushing for a more extensive investigation, Grant was finally diagnosed.... Grant was very supportive of Kellys involvement with Relay, and although very ill accompanied her in May last year on the Survivors and Carers walk. He even came back at dusk with Kellys 2 sisters to attend the Candlelight Ceremony. The Hastings Relay For Life is a truly magical and empowering experience and an amazing event that has the unique ability to bring a community together in a way that no other event really can. You realise you are not alone. It is also a weekend of fun and laughter, talking, walking and even a few tears, Kelly remarked.
