25.01.2022 We have been talking about a lot of work we have been doing around the station. Repairs and maintenance. Even while we are ready to go fight fires, we have members who go the extra mile and work to spruce up the station with a new coat of paint! Thanks guys! it is very appreciated and looks fantastic!! A Great Brigade to be a member of. Good people make all the difference!
24.01.2022 Yellow Ribbon Day is next Tuesday - 8th September. Wear something yellow to show your support of the brigades and volunteer firefighters.
23.01.2022 Weekend Wrap!! A pretty good week for us. Only a few call outs for fires within our area. All able to be sorted without major issues. Great to see all our appliances going out with full crews to attend some of these fires.... It seems like a good time to reinforce that we are currently in the middle of this years fire season. A little different to 12 months ago where we have fires all around us and people on the ground almost 24 hours a day. The patches of rain and lower temperatures have certainly helped this season, but we also do not have the issues of people lighting fires as much this year. We thank you for your heightened alertness to the dangers we could face, even in this more weather friendly time, we need to be vigilant. This Tuesday Night is Training Night. A full night of "New Learning" has been promised for this week. This is always something to look forward to! As per usual, please stay safe and keep your eyes open for anything of concern. Please call 000 if you see something of concern. Until next week!
23.01.2022 Today we had the pleasure of a visit from our State Member, Mr Jim McDonald and he was bearing a gift. As you all know, we have been making some very positive improvements to our station during the Covid crisis. Now that we have done all the cleaning, maintenance and repairs, we have swung into the update stage of the grand plan.... One of the items on the list is a brand new Queensland flag we can fly with pride. Enter Jim as our State Member. Jim was very generous with his time today. Speaking with our First Officer Jamie Reside about a myriad of topics involving the Lockyer Valley and our little area. For some of us (Jim & Jamie included), today's flag presentation could not have happened at a better time. The day after Queensland's valiant victory over N.S.W. last night. Thanks Jim McDonald!
21.01.2022 LOCAL FIRE BAN SOUTH EAST REGION Due to heightened fire conditions, a local fire ban will be imposed for the following local government areas from 00.01am... Wednesday (23/09): Logan Scenic Rim Ipswich Lockyer Valley Somerset For residents in these areas, the ban will remain in place until 11.59pm Saturday (26/09).
21.01.2022 Weekend Wrap! A pretty good and well rounded week for us. Limited call outs, more maintenance and a enjoyable Tuesday Night @ Training.... As we have mentioned over the past few weeks, we have been very busy doing a lot of our yearly maintenance around the station. For a number of years, we have wanted to put down some lines for parking bays and also to keep the front of the station clear. As none of us felt we had the skills needed to do the job properly, we got in contact with a local business, Absolute Line Marking who are based in Hatton Vale! Mark came to the station and had a bit of a look, pulled out his tape measure and booked us in to get some flash looking paint work done! Here are a couple of photos of the result. As you are all aware, we love the support we get from you all, our community and we feel the same way when dealing with things we need to get done. We always deal with a local company! Thanks Mark! We are thrilled with the job you and your team have done for us. Local businesses matter! This Tuesday Night, we will be holding our scheduled Monthly Members Meeting. This is due to kick off at 7pm. As normal, please stay alert and aware of whats going on in our area. 000 is the best number to call if you have any concerns. Stay safe and look for us on the road.
21.01.2022 Yellow Ribbon Day!
19.01.2022 Weekend Wrap! Phew, we are glad that week is over! Numerous call outs. High Fire Danger days. Station Standby and we even had some members on a Strike Team ready to respond to anything that flared up in area. Thankfully, the weather was not as bad as predicted, but we were ready!... Yes, we did have a few call outs during the week. Nothing major and those people at the locations we were called to were very friendly and great-full. The weather is looking a little better for this coming week with even some rain predicted towards the end of the week (That's if it can get through the dome!), but as we all know, history tells us a weather forecast can be wrong at times. The harsh winds have been causing a lot of concern over the past few weeks. Time is our enemy when we have strong winds. A fire can get moving very quickly and embers can travel vast distances when being fed with wind. If you see anything fire related, the quickest way to get help is to call 000. This week, we have Tuesday Night is Training Night again. I know our training officers have been hard at it creating scenarios for us to practice in. All members feel the benefit from training, especially when it is also a challenge. As per our usual sign off, please stay safe and keep an eye on each others safety. Report anything to 000 as swiftly as possible. We will be there as quickly as we can!!
19.01.2022 If a bushfire broke out in your local area, what would you do? Having a Bushfire Survival Plan can help your family know what action to take, and when you will leave. It is important you discuss your plan with your family members, so everyone knows what to do. You can make your plan by visiting: ruralfire.qld.gov.au//Create-your-bushfire-survival-plan.a
17.01.2022 From the entire team here at Hatton Vale Summerholm RFB, we would like to wish every Dad out there a Great Fathers Day!
17.01.2022 Weekend Wrap! Only two call outs this week, and we were sent back home before we could arrive on scene both times. Neither were for fires (Thankfully).... Some of you may say "How frustrating" or "What a waste" No, nothing could be further from the truth. As you are all aware, we get calls for everything. Fires, Road Traffic Collisions & even Animals in trouble. If we do not get a call, we have the piece of mind knowing our community is ok. If we get "Stopped" on a call, it can tell us that the reason for us being called has been assessed and we are not needed. We volunteer to do this job to make our little patch of area in the Valley a little safer! As we have mentioned to you all before, we have used a lot of this Covid down time to clean, repair, replace and maintain everything around our station. Firstly, we would like to publicly thank our members for the efforts they have put in in this most trying year. Our members efforts this year have not gone unnoticed. Secondly, we want to thank the local businesses that have supported us, some times at very short notice, to repair or add to our station and equipment. Absolute Line Marking did a fantastic job with refreshing the front of our station! Plus, you would have seen our resent acquisition of a new Queensland State flag through our State Member. Thank you Jim McDonald. Finally tonight, we would like to mention that even during this terrible Covid year, we have had many members attend training courses. We have had 10 new members sit, and pass, their "FMS" course to become Fire Fighters. Three of our "senior" members have attended and almost completed their "FAS" Advanced Fire Fighter course. (This course takes a few months to complete) And today, we had one of our members sit and complete his "Crew Leaders" course. Congratulations to all of you that have undertaken training and also made our Brigade a better organisation! As usual, please stay safe out there. School is winding up and more people will be out and about on the week days. Look out for each other and we will see you on the road and streets!
16.01.2022 Weekend Wrap! I was warned not to use the "Q" word and i didn't listen. What does this mean?..... We have been busy this past week. Fire calls, working with other Brigades at some very big burns and the continuance of our yearly maintenance around the station.... We have had a good solid week. The outstanding part of all the work has been how our Rookies have been performing. They are working as very valuable members of the team. Not that we were really expecting anything other than a high performance from them, but they have really pulled their weight on the fire ground. Our yearly maintenance is just about complete. We will let you all see what this has entailed in a future weekend wrap. But, needless to say, the station has not looked or functioned better! Over the past week, our area has had a fair bit of smoke in it. This smoke has been coming from planned burns through The Lockyer State Park. We have also had some other planned burns in nearby areas that have all been planned. Seeing this smoke in the area can cause two things to happen. One is people start to get concerned. This is a fair enough reaction. The second reaction is people can get complacent. "Oh it's just the planned burns". The big thing we want everyone to be aware of is if you see something that is of concern, please call it in to 000. Please do not be complacent, stay alert and be aware. Fires are not our friend, so lets stop them as quick as we can. Please stay safe. Please stay alert. Please look after each other and Please give us a wave!

09.01.2022 Weekend Wrap! Short and sweet this week. No fires for us, but we did have some members working in support roles on some fires out of area. Supporting each other and Brigades around us is how we work. It is how the entire Rural Fire Service works.... When someone needs some help, we are there for them. Training this past week was practicing skills of the seniors and introducing some "New Moves" to the newer fire fighters. It is always good to practice and make sure we are ready for anything when a fire pops up! We have had a couple of questions about hazard reduction burns. Yes, we can do them, but due to the current Covid restrictions, it can get a little complicated. A lot of very specific criteria must be met before we can be authorised (By Area Office) to conduct a burn. Such is the times we are currently living with. Remember to please stay safe out there. Look out for anything with smoke and flame and please report such things to 000 at your earliest. To keep up to date on fire bans (None currently), getting a permit to burn and/or preparing your bushfire evacuation plan, please visit www.ruralfire.qld.gov.au See you on the road!! Please give us a wave!

05.01.2022 Some sage advice
04.01.2022 Weekend Wrap! Is it hot enough for you?? As you all should know, we have a Fire Ban in place at the moment.... The weather is going to be hot and dry and a bit windy at times until at least Wednesday!! Not only does this increase the overall fire danger, but it also lifts the danger we humans can face as well. Please remember to drink plenty of fluids and try to avoid being in the heat for long periods (If possible). Also remember you pets and local wildlife. Plenty of fresh water. Shade for them to get under and if you have the chance, place a few bowls of water around your property for the locals. We have, once again, been very lucky in our area with almost no call outs!! We have supplied crews out of area to assist other brigades though. A few fires have caused a few issues in our surrounds. As i have said before, we work a lot with neighboring brigades and are always backing each other up when needed. Please look after yourselves, your friends and neighbors with this terrible heat. If you see any thing that causes you concern, please report it to 000 as quickly as possible. Until next week!
03.01.2022 Weekend Wrap!! A well balanced week. A couple of minor calls. A visit from some of the RFS Head Honchos and a Members Meeting on Tuesday Night last.... Yes, we had the pleasure of receiving an "informal" visit from Assistant Commissioner Kevin Walsh, Regional Manager Alan Gillespie and Area Director Paul Storrs. These gents were doing a bit of a look around the area and had invited some representatives from neighboring Brigades. (Photo below of HVS First Officer Jamie Reside, Iredale First Officer Warren Dean and Asst Commissioner Kevin Walsh) It is always pretty cool when the guys up the chain of command come for a visit. They openly appreciate the efforts and work taken on by Volunteer Fire Fighters. Plus..... We had a BBQ!! No better way to feel totally appreciated than a sincere thanks and a belly full of BBQ. Tuesday Night is Training Night this week and rumor has it, we have something very special lined up to learn all about this week. You will have to make sure you come along Tuesday Night to see what it is!! This week, as usual, please keep a sharp eye out for anything that could spell trouble. If anything is of concern, please do not hesitate to call 000 and report it! Look after each other and don't forget to give us a wave if you see us out and about.
01.01.2022 Celebrating the end of school will look pretty different this year, but we still want holiday-makers to stay safe while having a great time Here are our top t...ips: If you’ve booked accommodation, steer clear of the building’s smoke alarms, fire extinguishers, hose reels and hydrants. Follow the Bureau of Meteorology so you know if bad weather is about to ruin your plans. Know your location. If you need to call Triple Zero (000), it’s really important that you can tell the operator where to find you. Don't overcrowd balconies or lifts. They can only hold so many party people. Before you enter an elevator, check for signs telling you how many people should get in. See more
01.01.2022 Weekend Wrap! Today marks 2 weeks since we have been called out on a fire call within our patch. We are 3 weeks into this years fire season and amazed at the time off. We are not complaining one iota. Please rest assured, we are ready for what ever is thrown at us!!... We have had a little bit of work in the Lockyer National Park (Vinegar Hill) assisting the Parks & Wildlife crews with some cool burning. A fantastic learning experience for our Rookies and to be honest, it is also good for the veterans to sharpen their drip torch and rakehoe skills. As mentioned earlier in the week, we hosted Lockyer Waters crews for a combined training night on Tuesday. A great night was had by all. Thanks again Lockyer Waters crew for coming out!! We are having a bit of a busy time around the station making doubly sure all of our appliances and gear are ready to go when needed. Maintenance is the key and something we never shy away from. This week, we look forward to another Tuesday Night is Training Night. I have been told something special is on the cards again this week!! Our training officers are doing a fantastic job in making sure we not only learn, sharpen our skills, but also enjoy our time at these sessions. Well done guys! We a little luck, we will have nothing to report next Sunday in the Weekend Wrap (Famous last words). Until then, please stay safe. Look after each other. If you see anything that concerns you please call 000 immediately. Also, don't forget, you can keep up to date on whats happening fire wise by going to www.ruralfire.qld.gov.au
