25.01.2022 WHALE OF A TIME Keen kayaker Ian Watkins has seen plenty of whales around Albany in his time, but he's never had a day like this. On Sunday, Mr Watkins s...aw 16 whales during one session on the water at Cheynes. The Albany man says he was surprised by how close some of them came to shore, describing them "playing in the waves". He tried to keep his distance, but as you can see in this footage, they weren't all easy to spot. "You don't even know where they are with some of them," he said. "The whole day was just fantastic. It was pristine conditions, crystal clear. "We just live in a fantastic part of the world. We live in paradise." [ LANGUAGE WARNING]

These pictures were taken by Terry Dunham in the Stirling Range National Park over the past week. He said the spiral leaves in the first photo are a great example of the leaf structure of these stunning orchids. The Eastern Queen of Sheba belongs to the spiralis complex of sun orchids that we have here in WA. Terry Dunham / The Wildflower Society of Western Australia (Inc.).

09.01.2022 You’re captivated by the sounds and smells of the Aussie bush and challenged by the final scrabble over impossibly arranged granite boulders near the peak but o...nce you reach the Granite Skywalk... oh my. It’s like the earth has been laid out just for you, just this one time. It’s kind of hard to start that descent again, but if you’ve been clever enough to pack a picnic to enjoy, there will be a treat awaiting you at the bottom of the trail. We love Castle Rock - it’s nice and handy to Castle Rock Estate and to Abbey Creek Wines. Maybe step it up a notch with an eco tour, or go a scenic flight? Or just wander the ancient Porongurup Range at your leisure, with a comfortable bed and a cosy hearth awaiting when your day is done. 03.01.2022 Sometimes, it’s best just to let the words of a visitor shine. for putting into words (and photos!) the very special feeling of experiencing the ever-changing... #thegapandnaturalbridge, @crumbs_and_corks! A visit to Albany isn’t complete without seeing The Gap. This is a rugged granite channel that has been carved by the Southern Ocean crashing into the coastline. I’ve visited as a child and there was no viewing platform in those days and all I remember is my mum panicking about my sister and I getting too close. In 2016 a new platform opened and you can now stand and have the ocean crashing under you 4 metres out over the ocean, 40 metres above sea level. Today it was raining and the sea was powerful. . . #thegapalbany #granite #southernocean #minengcountry #wagylkaip #au #therainbowcoast #soperth #urbanlistperth #perthisok #perthlife #theamazingsouthcoast #amazingsouthcoast #visitwa #australiassw #holidayherethisyear #adventureawaits #TheEdge #greatsouthern #tourismwa #seeaustralia #thesouthwestedge#australiassouthwest#thisiswa#wanderoutyonder
