13.01.2022 Today is R U OK? Day and this year the message is more important than ever. @ruokday is our national day of action dedicated to reminding everyone that every day is the day to ask, Are you OK? and support those struggling with life's ups and downs. This year's message is 'There's more to say after R U OK?'... If you feel like something’s not quite the same with someone you know there’s something going on in their life or you notice a change in what they’re saying or doing - trust that gut instinct and take the time to ask them Are you OK? If someone says they’re not OK, make time to listen, encourage action and check in. That conversation could change, or even save, their life. #ruokday

12.01.2022 Today is World Autism Awareness Day. Research conducted in 2018 found that 12.3% of people experiencing homelessness interviewed showed strong signs of autistic traits that would be consistent with an autism diagnosis. This percentage is a much higher proportion than the 1% of people in the general population who are autistic. How do we combat this?... At Haven; Home, Safe our services go beyond providing housing. If you have autism and are at risk of homelessness we can support you to manage your housing situation. We also work with other community service organisations in your local area to provide you with the support you need.

Support for first homebuyers - Reset our tax system to make it fairer for ordinary Australians wanting to buy a home. 2. A National Housing Strategy - More low-cost properties mean more choices, making it cheaper and easier to find a home. 500,000 new low-cost rental homes are needed to meet the demand for affordable housing.... 3. A better deal for renters - Get rid of no grounds evictions and unfair rent rises so that millions of Australian renters have the security they need to create homes, build lives and raise families. 4. Immediate relief for Australians in chronic rental stress - Increase Commonwealth Rent Assistance for the thousands of Australians who are struggling to pay the rent. 5. A plan to end homelessness by 2030 - With real effort, we can halve homelessness in five years - and end it in 10. Sign the petition at https://everybodyshome.com.au/petition/

10.01.2022 COVID-19 has highlighted the importance of community and social connections in improving our health and wellbeing. Connect with friends and family: Staying connected with friends and family at this time can reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation.... For older Australians, now might be the time to embrace technology. Younger family members can help you get set up and guide you through the process. Give it a go! If you are more comfortable with the phone, call friends and family for regular catch-ups. You could even write notes or letters. 06.01.2022 During the COVID-19 pandemic, people have been offered bill deferrals by energy companies, enabling them to defer payment to a later date. The Energy & Water Ombudsman is concerned that without broader support from the Payment Difficulty Framework (PDF), these customers are likely to face ballooning debts down the track. Offers of bill deferral should come with an offer of a payment plan and other assistance to help customers manage expenses in a sustainable way. Read a summary of the PDF on the Energy & Water Ombudsman website to find out more.
