25.01.2022 There are not many people we meet in life that we can imagine ourselves being in a relationship with. The same is true of finding the perfect business partner. What makes us a great team is the same thing that attracts our clients to us. 'Ease'. If it isn't easy, it isn't meant to be. ... I don't mean the legal work itself, I mean the 'relationship'. You should feel a connection with your lawyer on some level. And we also believe that your lawyer needs to make working with them as easy as possible. You can have a fabulous website and great online forms (...and we have both) but you can't fake the way you make someone feel.

25.01.2022 I am enjoying: Everyone being in the same boat Hearing children and babies in the background on important work calls... Getting more sleep Having a 5pm Baileys (mostly everyday) Working in PJs Not feeling chained to a desk (even though I am) It has however been heartwarming this week to hear (when on calls) more and more parents have clearly stopped worrying about keeping their children away during work calls. It is sometimes all just too hard! We may never experience another time like it during our lifetime - I certainly hope we dont. But...for the first time, it has put all of us in the same boat together. Everyone we are dealing with, clients, financial advisors, lawyers, conveyancers and banking staff - we are all struggling in one way or another. And this is strangely comforting. We ALL want to see an end to this hard time. We just need to hold on a little bit longer.

22.01.2022 For many years, if not decades, Australians have been so well protected from the horrors that affect many abroad that we now wrongly believe we are immune from them. If nothing else, our physical distance from the rest of the world helps in maintaining this belief. I have not seen it with my own eyes and I am no doctor or scientist but I beleive that the virus is here. I need to believe that as a nation, we all want keep each other safe. ... Yes it is scary. 22.01.2022 As much as in life we wish that everything would just go in accordance with our plans, the universe often has other ideas. Over the course of the last 5 weeks, our staff, and consequently our families, have experienced everything from gastro and hand foot and mouth to weddings in northern NSW and dogs requiring hip surgery. So you will forgive us for failing to finalise our '4 post staff intro' but a few things got in the way... Fiona Buchanan is my (Adelle's) work wife. Sh...e is the back bone of Haven Legal. Fiona keeps everything running when the workload become overwhelming because nothing is ever too hard or too much trouble. Fiona is our Family Lawyer and Partner. Fiona and her husband followed their beautiful daughters down from QLD where they previously owed a law firm on the Gold Coast for over 10 years. She is an asset like no other and we wouldn't have Haven Legal without her.

Forgetting to brush your teeth until 3pm in the afternoon (on a good day) Becoming a pro at looking work ready (only on the top half!) Saving on perfume (no one call smell you over Zoom) Saving on makeup Living in trackie pants and Ugg boots Having a glass of wine (or similar) almost everyday, maybe 2 Having lunch with your babies Zoom meetings all day Working all hours of the day, night and weekends because everyday feels the same... 08.01.2022 What do you want to happen to your body when you die? Most people go for your basic, run of the mill, cremation or burial clauses. But its the weird and wacky requests that we love! Like being buried upright, having a sea burial, ashes being turned into pencils and being posted out to anyone that attended the funeral. ... My favourite of late is husband and wife having their ashes forged into diamonds! And yes...it is a thing and it will cost you about $3,000 and take 6 months but wow! I think I might become a diamond...

08.01.2022 Birth Trauma Awareness Week 6-12th September, 2020 How many times have you heard "but your baby is perfect so why arent you ok"?... It is my belief that most women experience some form of birth trauma. As women we are well known for comparing ourselves to one another and I beleive we do this with our birth stories as well. I think this is what stops us talking about birthing our children because we are worried that my birth was not as hard as my friends so I shouldnt complain. I cant tell you how much that shits me! I encourage every person impacted by birth-related trauma to raise their voices because #yourstorymatters. Partners and loved ones play a vital supporting role in the lives of women affected by #birthtrauma and can also be impacted themselves. I encourage you to start the conversation so that more can be done to better prevent, diagnose and treat birth trauma. I am well known for my authenticity and oversharing nature and the truth is I have no qualms about sharing any aspects of my past triumphs and tribulations. If any story of mine inspires someone or helps someone else in knowing they are not alone then sharing my story is worth it. It is for these reasons that I am open about telling my birth trauma story. It does not mean that I am not recovered. It does not mean that I am not coping. In fact, it is quite the opposite. I can talk about my story because I am stronger now than ever before. Talking about my story is still hard but it gets easier everytime I tell it. The short version is I walked into the hospital to have a baby and I almost didnt walk out at all. When I did leave, 1 month later, it was with a bag attached to my bowel. We all experience trauma differently. We all recover in our own ways as well. If you want to talk, TALK! If you are not ready, then sit with those feelings for a while. Whatever you do, dont hold your story hostage. I am here to tell you, no matter what has happened to you in this life, no matter what trauma you have bottled up inside of you... YOUR TRAUMA IS VALID! #starttheconversation

Living in a digital world, there are so many extra responsibilites for executors to deal with post death. It is a carefully constructed balancing act between work, husband's, children, sick dogs, upset stomachs, some online shopping (I love my clothes!) and everything in between. We appreciate that your life doesn't run on a 9 ...to 5 schedule and neither do ours. This post was going to contain a professional photo of myself but that wouldn't be a complete reflection of who I am and what I am all about. 03.01.2022 The way we work as Australians has been turned upside down this year. The pandemic has thrown us headfirst into tech-enabled remote working. Businesses that werent ready for this on-line move have struggled and sadly we are seing closed doors and for lease signs across the city and suburbs alike. On the flip side, I think it has also proven that many businesses dont need a physical office space to operate. Perhaps in the 2020s we might see a seismic shift in the way we ...develop our careers. A new understanding that we can be with our families or have a tree or seachange without sacrificing career ambitions. I lived in Cobram on the Murray River for most of my 20s and it was the happiest I have ever been in my life. It is the calm, no traffic or traffic lights (one set in the whole town), the bush at your doorstep and very happy off-leash puppy dogs. My career took off there but my family brought me home to Melbourne. One day I look forward to finding that kind of calm again. The premise of this is you dont always have to have a detailed plan with a certain outcome but you have to start somewhere and it is better to do something rather than nothing. We love the concept of giving the power to the children and making them feel such a special and integral part of the process. 01.01.2022 Death of a loved one is such a difficult time. Trying to set your mind to what needs to be done administratively is not something you need to deal with straight away. We have many calls the day someone dies asking what do I need to do now"?... My answer is always the same. Take the time to grieve. Unless there are family conflict issues, just go through the motions. Have the funeral, cry, gather your thoughts. Call us once you have received the Death Certificate.
