25.01.2022 Last week Dr Matt McKee saw Bonnie for what appeared to be a relatively simple shoulder laceration. However, upon investigation Dr Matt retrieved a 3 inch splinter, surprising her owner.

22.01.2022 Sarcoids are one of the most common skin neoplasias seen in horses. They are generally benign and non-life-threatening but can be locally invasive and often unsightly. These photos are of a 13 year old stockhorse mare that Dr Matt McKee treated over a 12 month period. As you can see, the sarcoid has completely healed, much to the delight of her loving and dedicated owner.

20.01.2022 Laminitis is very painful and sometimes fatal condition that many horses suffer from. Rehabilitation of horses that have suffered laminitis takes a team effort between owner, vet and farrier as well as a lot of patience. Here is a really nice success story of a pony that Dr Kylie Hardwicke has been dealing with over the past 3 months. With a diligent owner and great farrier this pony has gone from 3mm sole to 20mm sole and is now sound at walk and trot . Image of left is when he first presented and image on right is before pony’s farrier visit yesterday.

16.01.2022 Hendra Reminder As you may be aware, there was a confirmed Hendra case in an unvaccinated, 17 year old retired thoroughbred in Murwillumbah this week. We would remind all owners to take preventative measures including: * Vaccinating your horses. * Removing horse feed and water containers from under trees. If possible, place feed and water containers under a shelter. * Remove horses from paddocks with trees/shrubs that attract flying foxes. If you can't remove horses from the... paddock, consider fencing off the affected areas. * Clean up fruit debris under trees/shrubs. * Isolate sick horses from other horses, people and animals until you have a veterinarians opinion. If you would like to make a booking to have your horse vaccinated against the Hendra virus, please contact our office on 4577-4611. See more

14.01.2022 Routine dentals are essential to your horses happiness and well-being. These 2 photos are of teeth that were extracted after being discovered at routine dentals. One is a fractured tooth and the other has a rather deep cavity. Teeth are often overlooked as a cause of health issues and discomfort because you can't see them without a thorough oral exam. We recommend a routine dental is performed every 12 months for adult horses and every 6 months for young horses.

14.01.2022 Eye injuries or issues with eyes should be treated immediately. These photos demonstrate how, what appeared to be a weeping eye, was in fact an embedded thorn. The quick actions of this horse's owner to seek vetererinary treatment saved this eye, if left for a couple of days, this horse could have lost its eye. Thank you to Dr Karla DeKlerk, this horse has now made a full recovery.
