21.01.2022 Hear Kirsty's story about how she survived having cervical cancer and why its' so important women continue their screening.

21.01.2022 Over the past 20 years, we’ve seen many positive breakthroughs in cancer outcomes. Cancer research has led to significant improvements in cancer prevention, early detection, screening and treatment. New Cancer Council research has shown that from 1996-2015, the cancer death rate in Australia declined by 20.6%. Meaning there were 107,000 fewer cancer deaths for Australians aged under 75 than expected, based on 1995 mortality rates. Most of the 107,000 lives have been saved through reduced smoking rates, improved early detection of cancers of the bowel, breast and cervix, and the translation of improved cancer care into practice areas where Cancer Council has led in research and advocacy. While it’s exciting to see such positive news we still have a long way to go. Learn more, here: http://bit.ly/3t5ISvA

We need to #stayhomeforcancer for those patients that don’t get to stay home in self isolation; for those patients who continue to endure treatment; and for those patients who are at a higher risk of contracting COVID-19 We ask you to write a message of hope to those affected by cancer, light your candle and display your Hope Bags in a window or upon your doorstep on Wednesday 29th April at 6pm, as a united display of support for cancer patients during these unprecedented times. 04.01.2022 Dear community, We have made the decision to cancel Penrith Relay for Life on Saturday 2-3 May 2020. The organising committee and Cancer Council worked through the options available to them with the current Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation.... The health of the community was the number one priority for us during this decision-making process. After taking advice from leading health professionals and knowing that many who attend our events are in a higher risk group, we’re confident that this decision is in the best interests of everyone involved, as well as the wider NSW community. We are so grateful for your continued support and understanding, we apologise for any inconvenience or disappointment this decision may cause. All money raised to date, has been put towards our lifesaving work in cancer research, community prevention programs and our information and support services. Thank you so much for your ongoing support of our work. On behalf of The Penrith Relay For Life Team.

04.01.2022 There’s no time like the present for us to rally together and support those in need in our communities. We saw a wonderful template being circulated in the UK, ...designed to help people offer support to their neighbours - we thought this was a great idea, so we’ve created our own! If you are able, print the below and post through your neighbours' mailbox or stick it in a communal place such as the lift. Share this post amongst your friends and let’s get through this difficult time together.

01.01.2022 Hawkesbury Heather Lee: 93 years old and taking on an isolation half-marathon! 93 year old Heather Lee is a champion racewalker and was crowned 2019 NSW Senior Australian of the Year. She is also passionate about raising funds for Cancer Council NSW since her husband, Leonard, died from lung cancer in the late 1990’s. His last words to her were, ‘Now is the time to show your mettle.’ She has certainly done that! Since being in isolation she’s keeping herself busy, regularly c...locking up 10,000 steps before 9am every day and is even taking part in virtual walking competitions. Her latest challenge was to walk a half marathon in just two days on 17/18 May - Sunday 17 would have been the Sydney Half. However, in typical Heather style, she outdid herself and completed the whole 21.1km in just one day. When we initially asked her to do the challenge she stepped up immediately, saying: Well, I’m not doing anything else! It really is amazing how determined and how fit she is at 93 years old. If you would like to donate to Heather, click the link below.
