17.01.2022 Hawkins Furniture Store open their doors for the first time by Jack and Loris Hawkins on 1st July 1958 located at 72 Johnson st Maffra, which is now Cafe LAttitude. On one side we had Porter and Vernon, (a white goods and electrical retail and repairs business) and on the other side was Bishops Jewellers. In those early days not only did we sell the usual furniture items such as lounge suites, dining settings, bedding and occasional furniture, we also sold nursery goods suc...h as prams, pushers, cots, high chairs, bouncinettes, baby baths and more. We also sold and laid floor coverings, (carpet and vinyl) and an array of curtain fabrics such as lace which we made up to order. In 1974 we moved to our current location at 114-116 Johnson st, which had previously been a Coles variety store ( Its closing was a big loss to the town but a blessing for us as the location was perfect for us to expand the business). In 2000 we extended and opened up the rear of the store providing larger display area, for our beds and bedding, which has become a strong facet of the business. 1st July 2018 has seen us celebrate 60 years of retail business in Maffra, and we would like to thank our many customers and friends (generations of families) from the local district and further afield who have supported us for so long. Loris (now 98 years of age) John, Phil and Robyn would again like to thank you all for your continued support and look forward to being of assistance for many years to come. We would like to remind customers that during this month of July not only are we offering great discounts off all our floor stock but we are running a weekly promotion to be drawn at 12pm each Saturday, winner will be notified. 14.01.2022 It is with great sadness we advise of the passing of a very special family member. Mum (Loris/ Grannie) passed away peacefully last Friday 28/8/2020 at the Maffra District Hospital with both John and Phil by her bedside. Mum was a wonderful loving, caring and compassionate lady who loved her family, she was an astute business woman and friend to many. Always in our Thoughts Forever in our Hearts ... 12/4/1920 - 28/8/2020 We would like to take this opportunity, albeit belated, to thank all Mums' family and friends for their well wishes, cards flowers and presents she received, celebrating her 100th Birthday in April (including a letter from the Queen). Special thanks to the Maffra Tourism and Business Association and the Stratford Football and Netball Association for their lovely flowers. A Special thanks to Meg Knobel for decorating Mum's room, providing a beautiful birthday cake and arranging a zoom conference so John ,myself and Robyn, along with the kids could share the day with her, due to Covid 19 Lockdown.
