22.01.2022 Great to see our veterans who are studying film at Swinburne University of Technology utilise the Sub Branch for studies. Sub Branches are for veterans to utilise. Good luck with the studies team.

22.01.2022 A must read for those in our community or who are interested in veteran issues. These problems need to be addressed, and the RSL, as the lead organisation for veterans, needs to take this seriously. These aren’t just numbers; these are our mates, our peers, our deployment buddies, and our comrades. Their struggle needs representation and we’ll continue fighting as hard as we can for those that need it. ... We congratulate RSL NSW for stepping up and giving comment in this story. See more

20.01.2022 At Hawthorn RSL Sub Branch we care and demand full disclosure and transparency from RSL Victoria. It's good to see the standard set by Vasey RSL Care. Financials and annual report sent to Sub Branches and copies placed online. You can read the 2020 reports on the following URL. To note RSL Vasey is owned 50% by RSL Victoria and is our primary accomodation provider for veterans and widows in Victoria. https://www.vaseyrslcare.org.au/about-us/annual-reports/

19.01.2022 Have a listen to our Vice President Eamon Hale speak with Australian Veteran News in a very wide ranging interview. They speak about a number of issues regarding the future of the RSL before finishing on the call for a Royal Commission into Veteran Suicide. Well worth your time to watch and discuss

18.01.2022 Finally some great advocacy from RSL Victoria. Well done to all the Sub Branches that supported this critical policy adoption. Veterans have spoken! Now RSL Victoria has spoken. http://www.rslvic.com.au//RSL-Victoria-members-vote-to-a-a

18.01.2022 We should be proud that Hawthorn RSL Sub Branch appeared in the Australian Senate hearing into Veteran Suicide last week. Page 31 is the testimony from Hawthorn RSL entered into the senate (see URL below). This testimony will exist for ever more. Yesterday was a monumental moment as RSL Victoria voted at the 105th AGM to publicly support the call for a Royal Commission into Veteran suicide. Great work by everyone involved. https://parlinfo.aph.gov.au//Foreign%20Affairs,%20Defence%

17.01.2022 This Sub Branch makes clear our thoughts on the primacy within the RSL of veteran focus and advocacy. We don’t hide it. RSL leadership has historically been loud, public and most of all, successful. For the majority of our history, the role of State and National President has been to be a regular fixture of normal life. To hear and see them advocating in the print and television media, fighting for the betterment of veterans and families. This has been lost, to the extent t...hat Steve Price had to look up who Dr Webster was, a man who has been State President for 4 years and a fixture of the State Executive for a whopping 32 years. Our elected representatives, whether volunteer or otherwise, are elected to represent. This is a wake up call that we must do better. Let’s work together and change this. Let’s advocate and return to being veteran focused.

17.01.2022 We are glad we could contribute to this project for a veteran who served in Vietnam. We are saddened to hear that some ESOs would not assist. This is what the RSL should be all about, assisting a TPI veteran that had a damaged property and had his insurance refused. Hawthorn RSL Sub Branch are glad we could assist along with other individuals and Sub Branches. The benefits of becoming a member of Hawthorn RSL Sub Branch is you are part of a team that delivers on the origin...Continue reading

10.01.2022 It is with a huge amount of emotion that we very happily, and very proudly, announce that today RSL Victoria has listened to its members and will adopt a policy of supporting a Royal Commission into Veteran Suicide. This is a huge moment for men and women around Australia from every generation that have served our nation. I’m not afraid to say that I’m typing this with a lump in my throat. This campaign by the Hawthorn RSL Sub Branch, alongside mothers like Julie Ann Finney..., and even meme pages like The Pineapple Express, has at times been immensely bitter and nasty. But we did it so that our mates who are no longer with us can be heard, and their struggles will finally be recognised. We have fought this battle for those that cannot fight themselves. The next step is for government to step up and listen to its fellow Australians. We will continue fighting, and will finally do it alongside RSL Victoria.

09.01.2022 A thought provoking article written by Charlie Lynn. Charlie provides some very interesting suggestions and ideas. His perspective is NSW specific and while we don’t have to agree with all all his views, it’s a great piece about our national league.
