02.01.2022 A humble Valentines day with my bride. A no fuss picnic at Kangaroo Point overlooking the beautiful Brisbane River City. A day to be grateful. . Bron and I have been married for close to 26 years. We've had our ups and downs like most couples. Overall- it's been awesome. So how have we managed to get this far? Here are my top 5 for making a relationship work: 1. Be a good human. This means turning up each day, in the magnificent ordinary of life, to give to others. That's it.... Be a good person. Do the righty by those you connect with. Serve others. Love those closest to you. Take the initiative and cook dinner, do the laundry. 2. Forgive. It's unpopular to forgive others nowadays. People like to hold grudges, keep scorecards, which are impossible to Meet. Forgive yourself for not being perfect, and forgive others for being human. Move on. Tomorrow will be better. 3. Tell people what you need. Be a good human and be honest, what are your needs? No one has a crystal ball to read your mind. Tell your partner. Be real. Be respectful, don't ever demand. 4. It's not about you. Again this is unpopular. Life is about living and loving the world around you. Take a humility check: yes life is hard, so own it. Make the world better by serving others, which means sacrifice. I'm a soldier. Life is not about me. Yes I have needs. However, my legacy is how I treat others, how I leave the world, my family, better off, blessed by my actions! 5. Be humble. You, your family, your partner, are all growing. Be compassionate. Be a lifelong learner. Life's hard, own it. Life's also beautiful, so live as you'd like to be treated. Be a leader, and set the pace, the tempo, the expectation of life. Don't blame others. Suck it up ... own the responsibility. God has entrusted you with your partner. Be a man, own it. . Thanks for reading. . Ten words to live by: Life is hard, own it. Life is beautiful, live it. .
