16.01.2022 A huge thank you to all the artists who’ve submitted work as part of the first round of Hayes Creative Development in 2020. We’ve had a record number of submissions, testament to the creativity and ingenuity of our artistic community who’ve found a way to keep working in spite of the challenges facing the sector. We’ve got a lot of work to do now to support the development of this wealth of new Australian content, but one thing is certain: There will be some extraordinary new musicals gracing our stages in the years to come. We can’t wait to share them with you.

07.01.2022 Like many others, we at Hayes Theatre Co have been listening closely to First Nations and POC (People of Colour) performers and theatre makers talking about the problems endemic in the musical theatre industry when it comes to equality, inclusivity, and representation. In this statement we declare that we stand with First Nations and POC performers, creatives and other theatre workers, and commit ourselves unequivocally to anti-racism. We also understand that a statement is m...erely a statement, and that actions speak louder than words. The current conversation has led us to interrogate the depth of our own commitment to anti-racism, and to realise that we need to make changes. Over the past few months we have started the work to ensure that representation and diversity are embodied in all our activities and at all levels of the company. We pledge to make anti-racism an ongoing and central part of our operations. We are especially grateful for the incredible leadership shown at this time by many, many young First Nations and POC musical theatre performers and theatre makers who have spoken up for what they believe. They make us hopeful and excited for the future.
