25.01.2022 Don't miss out: Sounds like an awesome way to celebrate NAIDOC Week! #alwayswasalwayswillbe

25.01.2022 Thanks to our supporters and friends who helped people experiencing #homelessness enjoy some festive cheer! Merry Christmas!

25.01.2022 We are local, secular, non-judgemental and effective. We work over the long-term with people experiencing #homelessness -- and find solutions to their health and accommodation needs. If you want to shift the dial on homelessness, please consider a donation of any size to the Haymarket Foundation. You can do that here: https://www.haymarket.org.au/donate/ (We are so grateful for your support and for considering a tax-deductible gift.)

25.01.2022 On friendship, homelessness, art and literature Well done to the The Footpath Library Volunteers and ClaytonUtz

24.01.2022 So far, so good! The telehealth service for people experiencing homelessness has had some great results. One client had a long-term chronic condition diagnosed and treated, after decades of ill-health. And now it is being expanded ...

23.01.2022 "I want to live a normal, stable life. I really like it here. Im given respect and care from staff." Comments like these are ones we hear regularly from residents of the Haymarket. Can you help us support some of the most disadvantaged people experiencing homelessness with your tax-deductible gift? Get in before midnights end-of-financial year deadline and donate here!

22.01.2022 Sometimes its good to look elsewhere to see what is being done to support people experiencing #homelessness In the UK, they have created a streetmuseum to protest the treatment of migrants.

22.01.2022 Adding to the chorus for social housing! "Low income growth compared to the rising cost of housing has, among other factors, increased mortgages, decreased home ownership and placed pressure on social housing and homelessness services."

22.01.2022 2020 has been a year, hasn't it? We are so grateful to StreetSmart Australia for supporting our frontline workers who have weathered quite a bit this year. Thanks for the leadership and initiative!

20.01.2022 It seems timely to shine a light on social housing: home to one in 10 of us over the last 20 years.

20.01.2022 Were not into bragging (honestly), but we are excited to hear that good news is travelling about the Haymarkets telehealth pilot, which is helping people experiencing #homelessness Thanks Alex Greenwich for the acknowledgement in State Parliament!

19.01.2022 For sure, we need more social housing to end #homelessness. But part of the solution to housing inequity could be affordable housing. Heres the distinction between the two:

18.01.2022 What are your hopes for the future? Here is one from a person experiencing homelessness who has stayed at the Haymarket. "Getting accommodation is important. To have a respectful atmosphere at the refuge. Staff and clients are wonderful."

18.01.2022 Hurrah! Were going to be able to help more people experiencing #homelessness get access to digital counselling -- thanks to a grant from the City of Sydney

17.01.2022 If you spare a few dollars for people experiencing #homelessness when you see them on the street - thank you for your kindness. But if you want to make a lasting change to homeless peoples lives, please consider a donation of any size to the Haymarket Foundation. You can do that here: https://www.haymarket.org.au/donate/ We provide more than meals and support: we work to end the cycle of homelessness, by finding solutions for the health and accommodation needs for men, women and transgender people who are homeless. The link for your generosity: https://www.haymarket.org.au/donate/ (We are so grateful for your support and for considering a tax-deductible gift.)

17.01.2022 Many people experiencing #homelessness are still in hotels, to help increase social distancing during the pandemic. That includes many of our clients too. Heres an update from our Acting CEO Grace Rullis. (We would welcome your tax-deductible gift this end-of-financial year -- you can do that here https://www.haymarket.org.au/donate/)

14.01.2022 We have some wonderful supporters - including OzHarvest and CEO Ronni Kahn who sent messages of congratulations for the 30th anniversary of one of our services. Thanks for the many, many meals and love! See the full story in the comments section.

14.01.2022 We are celebrating! One of our programs is turning 30 ... and there's a digital photo exhibition to mark the anniversary of the Bourke Street Program (see full story on the link below). https://www.haymarket.org.au/30-memories-for-30-years-an-e/

13.01.2022 Oooh: so exciting! Christmas is almost here and people experiencing #homelessness at the Haymarket Foundation are getting something extra special, with huge thanks to the social enterprise WEFTshop Styling!

12.01.2022 Here at the Haymarket, we have long known about the link between trauma and #homelessness. It is something we hear about everyday. And now with the pandemic and with climate change ... heres an example from the US.

11.01.2022 Its no co-incidence that Melbournes COVID-19 hotspots are also housing crisis hotspots. (And yes, we do need to address housing vulnerability including homelessness.)

11.01.2022 Yes, there are more (ahem) developments in the housing sector. And this seems like a good initiative ... but what about building more social housing? That would help end homelessness as well as stimulating the economy and keeping jobs. A triple win!

11.01.2022 The majority of people experiencing homelessness typically dont have access to a GP - a situation which exacerbates already poor health outcomes. But good news: thats about to change with a pilot about to take place.

09.01.2022 Theres nothing much better than a hot lunch on a cool, clear winters day! Huge thanks to Single O for the wonderful meals over the weeks that our homeless clients have been enjoying in hotel accommodation. Kudos to StreetSmart Australia for bringing about the partnership, which supports people experiencing homelessness and the hospitality sector!

08.01.2022 Are you getting hungry? So are the people experiencing homelessness that we work with. Luckily, they are getting hot, healthy meals delivered to them while they continue to be in self-isolation in hotels -- courtesy of the inner west social enterprise Colombo Social with the backing of StreetSmart Australia

08.01.2022 We made the news! Its great for one of the people we work with - a 53 year old man who is experiencing homelessness - to get his voice heard. Hes calling for more social and affordable housing, so that his current limbo can end. Thanks to Pro Bono Australia for publishing.

08.01.2022 Do you get FOMO? Dont miss out on your EOFY tax-deduction: make your gift before COB June 30 to help the Haymarket stop the cycle of #homelessness. You can do that here: https://www.haymarket.org.au/donate/ (Phew, that was a lot of acronyms!)

08.01.2022 A new year is something to celebrate! Some people experiencing homelessness staying with the Haymarket Foundation have had a welcome gift from our neighbours in Chippendale. Thanks to TheCommons for their big hearts and thoughtfulness!

07.01.2022 We dont want to bring you down (too much), but we have already started hearing about more people needing support from #homeless services organisations - and the demand will continue ...

07.01.2022 The Haymarkets case worker Shauna has her hands full with delicious meals lovingly prepared for people experiencing homelessness! Thanks to inner west social enterprise Colombo Social for the inspired food and to StreetSmart Australia who put their resources behind it!

07.01.2022 There are swings ... and then there are roundabouts! So it is with the NSW Budget: with three years more funding for some #homelessness services. And a nudge in the right direction for #socialhousing -- but nothing on the scale which is really needed.

06.01.2022 Over the last five years, we've been able to make a quarter of a million sandwiches (and bits of toast!) - thanks to the donations from Gift Of Bread Some of that generosity goes to our Bourke Street Program, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this month. We're marking the occasion with a digital slideshow (see details in the link). #homelessness #recovery

06.01.2022 This year, people who are #homeless not only face the challenges of winter, they are also particularly at risk of COVID-19 due to underlying health vulnerabilities. Demand for the Haymarkets services already far exceeded capacity and that was *before* the pandemic struck. We work to end homelessness, by finding solutions for the health and accommodation needs for men, women and transgender people who are homeless. This end of financial year, can you -- or someone you know -- help support people experiencing homelessness with a tax-deductible donation to the Haymarket? (We are so grateful for your support and for considering a gift.)

06.01.2022 We are still serving dinner at the Haymarkets crisis accommodation facilities, but the clean up is quicker, with many of our clients who experience homelessness self-isolating in hotels. #homelessness

06.01.2022 This makes your heart break. These people, who have impressive CVs and a wealth of experience, became #homeless - proving that it can happen to anyone. #homelessnessweek Thanks to ABC Radio National for shining a light on the issue.

05.01.2022 We need some thinking outside the box to end #homelessness Could super funds be the key to getting more affordable housing in the market?

05.01.2022 Some morning inspiration! (Also, its one of our favourite pieces of graffiti at the Haymarket!)

05.01.2022 Theres just over a week until World Suicide Prevention Day (Thursday 10 September). You can help raise awareness of this important public health issue and get some exercise at the same time, by supporting an event organised by Eastern Sydney Suicide Prevention Network - find out more in the link below.

03.01.2022 Heres an idea: we can end #homelessness and stimulate the economy at the same time, by building more social housing. Heres a breakdown of where it is most needed. #homelessnessweek

03.01.2022 There are so many reasons why we need more social housing ... heres one of them! #homelessnessweek

03.01.2022 For many people experiencing #homelessness, the Haymarket Foundation provides more than a place to stay, it is the closest thing there is to family. A donation of any size from $5 to $500, or an amount of your choice will make a tangible difference on Christmas Day and every other day of the year. Thank you for your generosity and heart - and Merry Christmas!

02.01.2022 Yep, touchless hand sanitiser is everywhere! Even when you go to grab a drink at the Haymarket.

02.01.2022 What is it like being on the frontline, helping people experiencing #homelessness? Well, vicarious trauma is part of the picture. Thats why StreetSmart Australia have come up with this plan: kudos! SmartCare is an amazing initiative to ensure the well-being of our staff. Many of our staff are over stretched due to constantly going above and beyond. Our residential staff regularly witness and experience vicarious trauma, and are required to navigate within a service system that doesnt function effectively. You need to be tenacious to work here. - Grace Ivy Rullis, The Haymarket Foundation

02.01.2022 Sometimes the simple things make your day. Catching some afternoon rays at the Haymarket! #homelessness

02.01.2022 Tomorrow is World Suicide Prevention Day -- and there are practical steps you can take to raise awareness of this important issue. Thanks to Eastern Sydney Suicide Prevention Network

01.01.2022 Some of our clients have been doing really well, living independently in hotel accommodation, with support from case workers. And yet: what is going to happen when the funding ends, come June 28? Yes, it is wonderful that rough sleepers will be housed, but there are so many other people experiencing homelessness who are being left out. Thats why were joining Homelessness Nsw in calling for the construction of 50,000 social housing places in NSW over the next 10 years.
