22.01.2022 This is a cute flashback.

20.01.2022 When in isolation, there's plenty of time to practice piano and no reason to get dressed to do it!

18.01.2022 Some songs just mean alot - Vale Johnny Nash

18.01.2022 During the Victorian era, pianos and organs were shipped by the only means available -Ship, freight train, riverboat, horse & buggy and wagons. Stories of... the family piano being shipped over mountains by wagon or down a river by boat or hauled across the desert by horse & buggy. Imagine the elements that these pianos were subject to! These instruments would often spend months on end in the heat and cold being moved at a snails pace from one destination to another before finally reaching their new homes. Often pianos traveled hundreds of miles by these crude means of transportation, only to arrive safe and sound, and in reasonable tune! That alone is a testament to the quality and durability of these antique instruments. There are stories of old-timers in the USA who would take a wagon with a piano loaded on the back and venture out into the countryside, only to pretend to have a wheel or axle "about to break" in front of a rural farmhouse. As a favor, the farmer's family would allow the salesman to leave his piano in the home for safe-keeping while the salesmen took the wagon for repair - often over a period of several days. More often than not, the salesman would return to find that the farmer's daughters had taken a liking to the piano while he was gone! Imagine how many pianos were sold this way, all unbeknownst to the farmer and his wife! By the 'teens and 'twenties, pianos were still being shipped from major industrial areas by train, but the introduction of the automobile made home delivery a much easier task. Early trucks were equipped with special piano lifting mechanisms that would allow one man to load a piano at the factory, transport it to the suburbs and countryside, and unload it in the yard to demonstrate to a potential buying customer. Today, piano moving is somewhat of a science, if not an art to itself. There are a handful of specialized freight companies that move nothing but pianos & organs across countries and internationally. These companies have all the necessary experience, equipment, and knowledge necessary to make sure that pianos are safely moved from the factory to the store and to your home without damage or difficulty. It is amazing how easy they can make it look! Raymond Day-Hakker, Golden Era Piano Museum. With special thanks to the Antique Piano Shop USA, for "The easy lifter piano loader" photos.

17.01.2022 Hi everyone, I hope you have the social distancing down pat, it is simple for pianists. The length of a piano keyboard (grand or upright) is @1.4 metres, social distancing is 1.5 metres, so give yourself a bit more than the the piano keyboard length. Haynes Pianos is still open, so if you desperately want a piano while in isolation, just send me a message to organise a time, the showroom is half the size of a house so no problems social distancing - I will keep two piano... keyboard between us, but otherwise let's stay at home and stay healthy. I have been doing some tunings, everyone has understood the social distancing - leave the door open, I just go and do the tuning and email an invoice. If there are music/piano teachers about to start online lessons and embarrassed by the sound of your piano send me a message. I understand the financial pressures this lock down has produced and I am more than happy to organise a delayed payment system, so that when you are back with an income stream I can invoice you - we are all in this together!! Most importantly, stay healthy and enjoy your music See more

16.01.2022 what a dream - what an achievement

15.01.2022 Great idea!! (I know where that piano came from, too:)

15.01.2022 Haynes Pianos never made it into shot, but we were well established by the time of this film.

13.01.2022 Hey, don't think the Boz and I have forgotten to annoy you today - we just have the Blues!

10.01.2022 Hi All, well it is May Day in a pandemic, so I thought I would post a Boz Scaggs song. Now if you are like me you loved Silk Degrees (1975!!), but I hadn't given him a second thought until on a long trip to deliver a grand piano last year I put him on Spotify shuffle - well that was it. Boz's newer music is even better, he can sing any style, and is the only artist that when on shuffle I don't skip a song, in fact he is now in my top 10 all time favourite artists. So enjoy, and just to annoy you all I will try to post A Boz Scaggs song every day in May? Happy May Day.

10.01.2022 This is an impressive family!!!

10.01.2022 It is a beautiful day - so lets have some - Little Miss Night and Day.

07.01.2022 who said i forgot to post a Boz Scaggs song today??? Lies dam lies - there would have been hell to pay! This might be the last post(??) I think I am becoming tiresome - and that is the last thing I want to be.
