The 2021 West Australian S...tate Country Championships will be held at the Bunbury Regional Athletics Arena this weekend. While some of the State’s best athletes will take to the sand and water at Bunbury Back Beach for the SunSmart Country Carnival from 22 to 24 January. Over at Hay Park from this Friday, the City of Bunbury partners with Athletics West and Bunbury Little Athletics to host the country championships with about 400 athletes aged five to 95 set to compete. The event is part of the City’s partnership with Sports Marketing Australia and will bring some of the State’s best athletes from towns between Broome, Goldfields, Albany and beyond. The City of Bunbury Surf Life Saving Club will host the country carnival, which will kick off with the Apex Radiology Rainbow Bash on Friday, January 22. 23.01.2022 Works are continuing at Hay Park north for the construction of the brand new sporting pavilion. Construction of car parking and roadworks will begin this we...ek, south of the pavilion site. This project includes the construction of the pavilion with four changerooms, kitchen facilities, public toilets and community space as well as car parking, path network and landscaping. The pavilion will service the surrounding area where sports such as junior cricket, junior football, rugby, cricket, athletics and frisbee along with community groups such as the Bunbury and Districts Dog Club currently utilise the existing playing fields. Access to the South West Sports Centre and sporting grounds is from the Parade Road and Washington Avenue entrances. A reminder that there is no access available from the Socceroos Place or Wallabies Way entrances. The expected completion of the northern pavilion is November 2021. Less than four months after the Davenport f...acility opened, the City’s CDS Crew accepted its one millionth container on Monday. Launched on October 1, Containers for Change WA gives the community an opportunity to return eligible drink containers for a 10-cent refund. The initiative has been overwhelmingly embraced by YOU our community, helping reduce litter and landfill and increasing recovery and recycling. The City has seen the concept becoming more and more popular, especially with children collecting cans and containers for pocket money, and community groups fundraising. Another popular part of the initiative is donating containers (the refund amount) via a scheme ID for local community groups, sporting clubs, schools and charities. For more on donating containers visit: https://www.containersforchange.com.au/wa/donate-your-refund The City’s refund point is located at 13 Smokebush Road, Davenport.
