14.01.2022 Today is International Men’s Day. We would like to celebrate the positive value men bring to the world, their families and communities. International Men’s Day... helps to raise awareness of the challenges that men face in life especially in relation to the international male suicide rate. Today, we would like to show our appreciation and say thank you to all the men around the world that are positive role models and help to raise awareness of the importance of men’s well-being. #menshealth #internationalmensday #celebratemen #stopmalesuicide #thankamantoday
14.01.2022 We know the importance of NPs in Aged Care and how much they love working with their patients/clients. Kaye Coates, NP explains what is her favourite experience... with her patients. "The best part of being a NP is the bond and connection I made with the people I look after. In my role, I have the opportunity to help somebody who is starting to decline, find the reason why it’s happening, and help that person get well. Also, I can help someone to be as comfortable as possible nearing their end of life, making sure all their wishes are respected and carried through. This is very rewarding and important to me as a NP." https://www.acnp.org.au/home
13.01.2022 Having loads of fun in Oz. Here are a few highlights so far from my month-long speaking tour as part of EveryAGE Counts' fantastic campaign to end ageism. Stay tuned for more!
12.01.2022 Great day with a group of inspiring nursing and medical leaders, policy makers and executives. Nurse Practitioners have been in Australia for the last 15 years... yet we are still widely misunderstood, it’s unknown what we do or what we are capable of. We are reaching 2000 NPs in Australia. Across many services ~ diabetes, heart failure, emergency, paediatrics, wound care, mental health ... USA have 270 000!! However they are about 40years ahead in this field With the constant noise of our ‘healthcare in crisis’ and ‘lack of access’ for our communities, we can do more, we want to do more. Nurses can do a shitload more given the opportunity, it’s time to reconsider healthcare provision as a one man band. #nursepractitioners #lovewhatwedo #healthcareoptions #transforminghealthcare
12.01.2022 Message below to Sunday program following their program the other night. I know a few NPs were pretty cross about the program Jenny Carryer ... "The problems in providing health services in Northland are indeed serious and in many way mirrored elsewhere in NZ. However your program last night completely ignored a growing group of Nurse Practitioners ( 420 now in NZ and several in Northland ) who have the same scope of service as a GP. They are registered nurses who have completed a clinical masters degree and are separately authorised by Nursing Council to diagnose, treat, prescribe, admit to hospital and manage the full range of presenting conditions. The program rendered them and their considerable efforts and service entirely invisible. Nursing is so tired of this treatment. Nursing is the only workforce still well distributed across rural areas and small towns and when these nurses complete the masters degree they are a highly valuable resource for such areas. I would very much like to work with you to create a program in which the public could meet some of these people and the now large number of patients who have received their full care from N urse Practitioners". 03.01.2022 The royal commission's interim report, titled simply Neglect, paints a grim picture of a sector devoid of caring and emotion concerned only with the idea of its...elf as an industry that has consumers whose value is defined by the amount of funding they bring with them. According to the report leadership is lacking at the top of a workforce that endures severe recruiting and retention difficulties and where workloads are heavy. 03.01.2022 Dear Community Member, As a patient, or parent of someone that has been looked after by a Nurse Practitioner, I would like to request your assistance. The Vic G...overnment is looking at making changes to prescribing rules to allow Nurse Practitioners to prescribe more medicines according to their training and experience. Please see the Anticipated outcomes (written by the Vic Government in the Consultation Paper available at https://engage.vic.gov.au/victorian-nurse-practitioner-pres ) below: Anticipated Outcomes The proposed legislative amendment anticipates it will achieve the following outcomes for Victorian healthcare: Improved access to medicines for patients, particularly in underserved areas of practice such as, but not limited to, rural environments, aged care, homelessness, primary care and women’s health Better use of medicines for the full variety of indications that might warrant their prescription Reduced duplication of service and fragmentation of care Increased compliance in treatment if patients can access care from the first health care professional they encounter NP prescribing is linked to improved education regarding medicines and health advice, including advocacy for non-pharmacological as well as pharmacological treatments. improved flexibility in NPs scope of practice and therefore their employability, forming part of a collaborative health care team in more vulnerable and isolated communities where to access timely health care might be limited. Improved quality of care through the provision of evidence-based prescribing for Australians. *****I would appreciate your time in going to the following website: https://engage.vic.gov.au/victorian-nurse-practitioner-pres There are only 3 questions to answer, which I have summarised below. The Vic Government wants to know: 1. Do you support this change ? Yes/No 2. Do you believe there may be unintended consequences (do you think anyone will be harmed by the change) Yes/No 3. Would any Victorian be disadvantaged by the change? Yes/No It is community members that they wish to hear from the most. Thank you for your time Leanne Boase NP
03.01.2022 The #agedcare royal commission and its findings are brilliant because it will lead to a better system like it did in Britain, a conference on ageing hears #AAGConf19 @ILCglobal @RobertTickner @EveryAGECounts @gerontologyau http://ow.ly/JeAR50x5hSL
01.01.2022 High-intensity workouts can decrease the risk of heart disease in #aging adults, but how much is needed for the best results? The Washington Post reports on a new study that shines a light on the question. #wellness #geriatrics
