25.01.2022 On Saturday 27th October 2018, Adon, Dan and Nicki of Hazelcombe Farm are gathering together all friends and family who wish to come together in peace and love to celebrate Kate McQuiggin’s life, and reflect on how much we loved her and how much she enriched our lives and our world with her wonderful caring and giving free spirit. We will be planting the beginnings of a forest garden for her overlooking the dam in the place she loved so deeply. Join us to plant a tree or shru...b, herb or flower, or sow some seeds. Come when you can. We’ll be making pizzas for lunch (about 1:30 pm) and something simple for dinner. Between lunch and dinner, we’ll be planting and sharing stories about Kate. You are welcome to camp whether you come from afar or just don’t want to drive home that evening. We’d ask you to bring your own alcohol and drinks although water, tea and coffee are always available. If you do wish to drink alcohol, we’d ask you to not drive home that evening. Please let us know if you’re coming and whether you’ll be there for lunch and/or dinner so we know how much to prepare. If you are very particular, bring some toppings for pizzas. There’ll be normal and gluten free pizza bases. If you want to bring a plant that means something to you and connects you to Kate, please do so. This invitation is open to all who loved Kate. It is a chance for Kate’s friends from the different parts of her life to come together with Kate as our bond. Please forward this on to or directly invite anyone whom you think would like to be here.

17.01.2022 Highly suggested in contexts of the lowest input, self-perpetuating systems we can establish and quite literally walk away from. I find myself suggesting this book to others looking for ideas all the time. Great list of species. "Perennial vegetables are a joy to grow and require a lot less time and effort than annuals. In this book Martin Crawford gives comprehensive advice on all types of perennial vegetables (edible plants that live longer than three years) including coppi...ced trees, aquatic plants and edible woodland species. There are many advantages to growing perennial vegetables, for example: they need less tillage than conventionally grown vegetables, so the soil structure is not distrubed in their cultivation and carbon is retailed int he soil. They extend the harvesting season, especially in early spring; they are often of more value to beneficial insects than are annual vegetables; many perennial vegetables contain higher levles of mineral nutrients than annuals." 13.01.2022 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUnOdEBM-7M Why are some Australian NGOs still destroying and burning willow trees? Follow the redemption story of John Fry, an environmental project manager from Bathurst, NSW. John realised that the 'Willows Removal Program' was fatally flawed when the work he was winning accolades and awards for, was nothing more than 'biodiversity bonfires'. One day, he heard a knock on the door - Peter Andrews OAM had arrived to put him on notice! In a time when we are all facing the severe effects of climate change, the out-dated practice of Willows Removal leads to further habitat destruction and loss of biodiversity.

13.01.2022 Reforesting zones for future contour patterned edible-forest-garden system below the, to be highest body of water... Even with the lack of water-security much preliminary work can be done.

12.01.2022 Roadside scything to utilise a resource considered a problem - inconceivably... To avoid inordinately priced stock feed or just organics for mulching & composting. A couple of hours and we've acquired, I presume approx. $200 worth of feed, 2kg of naturalised asparagus and some wild salsify. ... Content with a productive morning.

12.01.2022 Various forks in trial from Falci hand tools. These work marvellously for shifting a whole range of different bio-solids.

05.01.2022 Hazelcombe progress update. We're trying to be consistent with the shots to record our example for teaching purposes. Certainly gratifying to see the soils improve and the newly planted trees spring to life.
