07.01.2022 Meet Yolande Grosser! Shes the President of the Horsham College Chaplaincy Committee who organise the biannual Book Fairs. An enormous amount of time and energy goes into managing these Fairs and Yolande is a wonderful motivator and leader by example. Heres how a Book Fair works. 1. People drop off their secondhand books to the Horsham College (in the foyer of the double story building in Dimboola Road).... 2. Students move the books from the foyer to the underground, a storage space underneath the stage of the Maroske Hall. 3. Every Monday the Book Fair Elves (also known as volunteers) sort and pack books into boxes. This happens most weeks of the year!! 4. On the Thursday before every Book Fair another team of elves (also known as students) move the books from the underground to inside the hall under the watchful eye of the College Chaplain! 5. Volunteers from the committee arrive at 2pm to help set up tables, put up signs and arrange the books in order of their categories. The students also help. 6. The treasurer arranges the float. 7. Rosters are filled. 8. All the PR is done. 9. On Friday morning, a last minute check by committee members is carried out and the doors are ready to open at noon. 10. Two volunteers lock the doors at 9pm. 11. At 9am on Saturday morning the doors open for a new crowd of book lovers. 12. At noon the doors close. Volunteers are at the ready and book culling begins. If we didnt cull the books each time, we would simply run out of storage space. Wastebusters loan us their recycling truck for the excess stock. Other organisations also use the opportunity to recycle books to send to schools in third world countries. Its a mighty team effort and were mighty glad our team continues to undertake this mammoth task twice a year!
