25.01.2022 Dear Students, Parents, Old Boys and Friends of Holy Cross College, The Holy Cross College Old Boys' Association (HCCOBA) held their Annual General Meeting last Sunday, 1 November 2020. Given the current COVID-19 restrictions, the meeting was held via videoconference. I would like to acknowledge the presence of Nathan Rodda, a current year 12 student, who joined the meeting and shared some wonderful initiatives that the student leadership team has in terms of engaging with th...e old boys of the College. 24.01.2022 OLD BOY SUCCESS STORY Carlo Giannasca Class of 1981 Carlo graduated from Holy Cross College in 1981. Following this, he pursued his passion in art and design and completed at 4 year Bachelor of Arts Degree in Visual Communications from Sydney College of the Arts. He started his working career in a number of small advertising and design agencies before securing a role at one of Australia’s leading graphic design studios, Emery Vincent where he spent 16 years.... In 2004 he and business partner Vince Frost established Frost Design in Australia. He has held several roles in the organisation both creative and managerial. He is a multi-award winning graphic and wayfinding designer and his strong grasp of typographic and communication principles as well as design theory are defining elements in his solutions. As one of Australia’s most respected and experienced wayfinding designer and strategist, Carlo has developed programs across a broad spectrum of sectors including health, hospitality, transport infrastructure, retail and commercial workplace and has also been responsible for managing major branding and wayfinding design projects for leading corporations such as Healthscope, ResMed, Qantas, Commonwealth Bank, HSBC Bank, Lendlease, CPB Contractors, Multiplex and American Express, and government bodies including Health Infrastructure NSW, Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation and the Sydney Olympic Park Authority. During his 35 year career to date, Carlo has created major environmental graphics and wayfinding schemes for projects such as Northern Beaches Hospital, the Qantas campus at Mascot, and the Barangaroo International Towers project. In 2017, Carlo was invited to become the co-chair of the Sydney Chapter of the Society of Experiential Graphic Designers (SEGD) and was a juror on the international panel for that year’s event in Washington DC. He was a keynote speaker at the 2018 SEGD Wayfinding and Placemaking conference in Los Angeles and he judged the Design Institute of Australia (DIA) Awards last year in Perth. In November 2019 he spoke at the National Health Infrastructure Conference, where he shared with the audience his views on the value of using human centred design principles. In January 2020, he became the Managing Director of internally renowned Creative Agency Frost Collective following 5 years as Head of Urbanite, the Collective’s environments business. In his personal life, he is married with 2 children, his son Luke, also a Holy Cross old boy graduated in 2010. Carlo assists with teaching Karate on Tuesday and Thursday nights at the Gladesville RSL Youth club. He holds a 4th dan black belt in Goju Ryu Karate and represented New South Wales at the 2003 National Karate Championships
16.01.2022 Old Boy Success Story Luke Graham - Class of 1997 Luke Graham is an international award-winning filmmaker based regionally in Queensland. Luke’s goal is to produce content in Central Queensland for the world market, which inspires audiences and societal change. Luke graduated from Holy Cross College in 1997 where he was a huge contributor to all aspects of the College and elected as a senior leader. Luke played Rugby League and Rugby Union whilst at school and achieved acade...mically as well graduating to University. He started his career producing films such as Bella, Spoonman and Last Roll of the Dice where his shorts played at over one hundred international festivals and included awards from; Tropfest, Flickerfest, Paris International Film Festival and Seattle International Film Festival. He has also created music videos for some of Australia's leading artists including; Stan Walker, Justice Crew and Guy Sebastian, Illy, Alpine, Hugh Sheridan, Rogue Traders and Shannon Noll. Luke produced his first micro budget independent feature film in 2010 called Braille. It was sold internationally to Japan, USA and South Africa. In 2016 Luke created the multi award winning feature film, Broke an international festival gem and one of Australia's theatrical success stories of the year. Broke went onto be one of most profitable rugby league stories made in Australia. It was also distributed in New Zealand, UK, USA, Canada, Germany & South Africa. Luke produced his first large budget web series in late 2018 for French based production house Rockzeline called Pet Killer. The series was funded by and for Blackpills, the world's largest web series streaming format. The series has won multiple awards to date. Luke is also the founder and Festival Director of Central Queensland's premiere film arts organization, Capricorn Film Festival which he created to support the development and celebration of films arts in the region. The festival was founded in 2015 with activities including an annual film festival, regional touring activities, networking, and community education through workshops. Luke is currently working on a Rugby League documentary with the help of the NRL who like the industry see Luke as one of Australia’s finest producers.

05.01.2022 Congratulations to our former Macquarie University Greek Association President and former Holy Cross College Captain John Georgaklis who has officially graduated. John graduates with a double degree of Bachelor of Engineering with Honours (majoring in Mechanical Engineering) and Bachelor of Commerce (majoring in International Business). Due to Covid-19, the graduation ceremony could not take place. 01.01.2022 Brian Lacey (Class of 1976) Brian graduated from Holy Cross College, Ryde in 1976 where he matriculated into University to become a teacher. In the 1980’s Brian taught in the Parramatta Diocese where he completed a masters in educational leadership at UNE from 1990 to 1993 and Certificate in Theology from the Broken Bay Institute. Brian became a Principal in 1994 in Parramatta Diocese which he held until 2003 after he was appointed to principal at St Mary’s Central School Wel...lington. He was later appointed College Principal at St Catherine's Catholic College, Singleton located in the Hunter Valley of NSW. St Catherine's is a Kinder to Year 12 College with approximately 900 students. After all these success in leadership Brian was successfully recruited to be the Assistant Director of Schools in Maitland Newcastle where he is responsible for eight primary schools (K-6), two Year 7-10 Secondary Schools, three Year 7-12 Secondary schools and one Year 11-12 Secondary College. Congratulations on a fantastic career of Catholic School leadership Brian.
