25.01.2022 Tbt to a year that holds a special place in my heart, 2002. The year I ventured on my professional development dance trip around the world (with thanks to Aust Gov arts grant) and met so many amazing dancers that I still hold dear to my heart to this day. Going into 2021 and after one of the most challenging years we have experienced, what stands out for me is the connections and friendships that have stood the test of time. The positive circle of friendships and new connec...tions who have inspired, motivated and pushed me out of my comfort zone. To my dancers who continued to show up to my online classes, workshops and events, thank you for your trust, laughter and spirit. I hope for more kindness and healing for us all in 2021. 24.01.2022 @devi_mamak and myself choreographed this piece for the Tribal & Trance Festival in 2012. We both chose a track that we loved and thought of ways we wanted to express them. 23.01.2022 A little late but we are still working through our Golden Era challenge with participants from @badriyah_bellydance Golden Era Legends workshop. From 120 participants around 14 different countries, 36 dancers took the challenge and really went all in and put in so much effort. Now its my & my editor husbands job to sit though 108mins of individual clips, 40mins of B Roll clips and mesh it together in a way thats beautiful and elegant.... The finished product will be so exciting to see. 21.01.2022 Grateful for my amazingly decked out studio for zoom classes. Since the start of this pandemic Ive never had issues with my mic, cameras and sound. I remember when people were out in droves stocking up on toilet paper, my husbands very logical brain went to stock up on technical gear, and the good kind! His spirit animal (the falcon) definitely stepped in and assessed the situation and acted swiftly. 20.01.2022 Getting weird and experimental with @jillinacarlano today. Loved every second of the workshop, her expertise in teaching, easy instruction and support is so inspirational. Something out of the box, a choreography that was inspired by our frustration, confusion, anger and fear caused by this pandemic. It was so therapeutic to be have Circle Time before the workshop, yes even with 50+ people on the zoom meeting we laughed, we smiled and we cried, yes it gets very emotional. T...he feelings that are needed to activate and intensify your connection to dance. Whether that be in fusion or oriental. The music by @paul_dinletir was so intoxicating. 12.01.2022 Tbt 2016 at Salam Festival organised by @brisbanebellydance and @ambyrbellydance Post pregnancy dance, so I went for a cola de bata Oriental / Flamenco fusion with Mauricio Iregui on cajn. This collaboration was suggested by Ambyr who knew the cajn player and thought we would work well together. We only met the night before, had a quick rehearsal and then on stage. Demonstrating that if you dont have space for an assaya you can still mark out the arms, positions of the cane, even whilst holding the wooden spoon to help muscle memory. I know the wooden spoon in highly respected in my household by my kids. My girls have termed my combos Tea Time with Jris as Im usually jamming whilst I wait for the water to boil for my tea. Ive now set up a camera because then I revise and edit what improv Ive done to create a phrase for class. Im certainly not a get in the studio to create.
