With Pet Sounds Brian Wilson set out to create 'the greatest rock album ever made' as well as trying to make a James Bond theme song out of the title track. George Martin says 'without Pet Sounds, Sgt. Pepper would never have happened', I've certainly made a couple of recordings that would not be the same without Pet Sounds, thanks Brian XO

16.01.2022 I could write 10 posts on why the production on this track (and the album it comes from, Scary Monsters) is some of my favourite work, but for now let's just mention that there are NO cymbals in this song. Not one. Or toms, for that matter. A supreme example of sitting on a groove and leaving room for the rest of the band. That's Dennis Davis on the kit, with Tony Visconti producing alongside Bowie. Next time you find yourself arguing for less-busy drums, you may wish to mention this track - it only went to #1 in the UK! NT
