25.01.2022 We are back this week and so excited for what 2021 has in stall for us. We hope all our families had a safe and restful Christmas and New Year break like we did .

24.01.2022 It’s with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our Senior Physio, Ankita, who is moving on to a new and exciting role. We are going to miss you but we wish you the best of luck

24.01.2022 You've probably heard that your child's early years are crucial for language development. This is absolutely right! So why is Early Intervention so important when it comes to receiving Speech Pathology treatment? The first few years of life are a period of brain growth and neural plasticity that allow for rapid skill acquisition. Learning to become an effective communicator during their early years can help your child interact with adults and peers and can reduce frustr...ation for your child. There is a better chance of your child catching up to their peers if their communication delay is addressed early. That's why it's important not to "wait and see" if your child develops age-appropriate milestones. Take advantage of this critical learning phase.

24.01.2022 A recommended read by our Senior Occupational Therapist. Some great tips, information and support, especially in this time of pandemic. Enjoy! https://www.nytimes.com//occupational-therapy-coronavirus.

23.01.2022 Yayyyy it’s that time of year again! School Holidays are almost here and so are our School Holiday Groups. We have five groups running, all with limited numbers. So definitely get in quick to secure your child’s place. Details are in the pics but please get in contact with us if you need any more details.

22.01.2022 Last day today, before going on maternity leave, for this beautiful mumma . Sandra, our office manager, will be off on a new adventure, having and raising another little baby boy . We can’t wait to meet the little man and we miss you already

22.01.2022 This week we have been celebrating Speech Pathology week! This gives us and the community an opportunity to recognise the exceptional work Speech Pathologists do to help people communicate with confidence. Did you know 1.2 million Australians live with a communication disability and it is largely invisible? Our Speech Pathologists, Shannon and Mariya love helping children reach their best potential with their communication goals. Their passion and desire to help others is admirable. The team at Head 2 Toe love working alongside these two clever, motivated and bubbly Speechies!

22.01.2022 With Sandra, our Office Manager going on Maternity Leave, Cindy has joined us to help keep things ticking along. So we thought you would all love to meet her MEET THE TEAM Name: Cindy Brown... Role: Office Manager 1. Why did you become an Office Manager? I like being the person that makes sure everything ticks along in the background. It’s a fun and varied role and I love working in a close team. 2. What do you like most about being an Office Manager? The people. I am making people’s lives easier with everything I do, and they are always grateful, so it can be very rewarding. 3. What is something people might be surprised to know about you? There are no surprises with me! I’m the least mysterious person on the planet! 4. Why do you like working at Head 2 Toe? On my first day I noticed there was a wall in the office where everyone puts up pictures of their pets with their names written beside them, and in the kitchen there is a huge wall chart with everyone’s birthdates written on each month so no one misses a birthday cake so I knew I was in the right place! It’s a genuinely caring team environment, people come first here, and everyone likes to have a bit of fun at work which makes it a great place to be!

21.01.2022 A massive congratulations and a great big thank you to Lyndall, our first medical receptionist and now senior medical receptionist, to one year with us!! Lyndall has seen us go from quiet to busy and busier, from 3 clinicians to 8, and from just herself at reception to supervising another 3 staff members in the admin team. Looking forward to many more years together Lyndall

20.01.2022 Some children have difficulty saying sounds, syllables and words voluntarily. If this occurs, they may have a disorder known as Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS). Children with CAS know what they want to say but their brain struggles to tell the articulators (e.g. jaw, lips) to move accurately. Have a read of our blog on our website to find out more. https://www.h2tfamilyhealth.com.au/blog.html

20.01.2022 Tomorrow night is awards night Our Managing Director, Monica, is also a finalist for the Outstanding Business Person of the Year Award. We are so excited but also looking forward to a fun night out with the team. Lots of Photos from the night to come

19.01.2022 As our centre and staff are getting busier and busier, we are bringing in some support by way of Therapy Assistants. So please give a warm welcome to our first Therapy Assistant, Sadia, who also likes to go by Neela. Meet The Team Name: Sadia Rahman ... Role: Therapy Assistant 1. Why did you become a Therapy Assistant/Student and in what area? I believe that mobility is a big part in feeling independent. Assisting and empowering others to gain back their independence really motivates me and that’s one of the reasons why I chose to study physiotherapy. As a student, becoming a Therapy Assistant has been a great opportunity to see how the world of allied health makes such a difference to someone’s life. 2. What do you like most about being a Therapy Assistant? I really like the dynamic nature of the role, especially at a multidisciplinary clinic like Head 2 Toe. You get the opportunity to learn more about each of the disciplines and be an extra pair of hands for the clinicians, to help make our clients make the most out of their sessions. 3. What is something people might be surprised to know about you? I love learning about the links between different words, where they come from and how its meaning evolves over time. I also love puns! 4. Why do you like working at Head 2 Toe? As someone who has an interest in paediatrics and women’s health, Head 2 Toe is the perfect place to learn about these specialisations. More importantly, the dedication and passion of each and every member of the Head 2 Toe team is just so inspiring!

17.01.2022 Such crazy times but the need for therapy for our little friends has never been more important. So please welcome the newest member of our Occupational Therapy Team, Cindy Vuong Meet The Team Name: Cindy Vuong... Role: Occupational Therapist 1. Why did you become an OT? I always had a great interest in helping others and making a difference! OT was something that I felt aligned a lot with my core values: family, health and living a meaningful life by making an impact on others small or big! My passion for working with children sparked when I volunteered at an orphanage in the outskirts of Phnom Penh, where I saw the great need for OT in kids who were on the spectrum and with other physical and learning difficulties. 2. What do you like most about being an OT? I love the ability to be hands on and creative with my therapy. I find value in being able to connect with my clients and their families! Every day is different and I always get to learn something new. I also like how OT looks at a person holistically rather than just their impairment or condition. 3. What is something people might be surprised to know about you? I love drinking coffee and finding new places to explore on the weekends either that be cafes, restaurants, beaches or national parks. I am also on my health and fitness journey and passionate about self-development. 4. Why do you like working at Head 2 Toe? The team at Head 2 Toe has been so welcoming since day one. Everyone is so warm and friendly and they make coming to work not a bore! I can definitely see how family-centred this practice is and how we strive to do our best for our clients and families. What made me attracted to Head 2 toe was that it is one of the very few multidisciplinary clinic!

09.01.2022 Just some advice from our OT Elaine; Crawling is absolutely necessary for good brain and body development. It plays a major role in facilitating sensory integration as well as gross motor, fine motor and visual motor development. That is why it is part of the human developmental sequence. If your child did not crawl, now is the time to start practicing.... If your child did crawl, then continue to do so. See more

08.01.2022 So not only are we a finalist as a business for the Local Business Awards, that shall be held next week . But Elaine our Occupational Therapist, is a finalist on the same night for the Outstanding Youth Awards . Congratulations and Wish us luck!!

07.01.2022 Children develop communication skills in a particular sequence. While some of them may overlap at times, this is the general order of communication development. Think of this as a house; without the foundation at the bottom, nothing else can be built on top. Attention and listening is the foundation for learning any new skills. Concentration difficulties can impact on all areas of communication including following instructions, using sentences or correct sounds in words. L...iteracy is the roof of the house. Strong language and speech skills are necessary before placing this roof on top. This diagram also shows us why play is such an integral part of speech therapy play is an essential building block for understanding and using language.

06.01.2022 With OT Week coming to a close, we though we would share some OT Gold. Sensory processing is the ability for the brain to process sensory information from the environment. Through sensory exploration a child can develop essential skills for participating and engaging in their daily activities. There are two different types of processes that the brain goes through to help the child understand their world through their senses: Sensory Modulation: The process through which the ...brain decides whether the information is important or not. A child who cannot filter out unimportant information often appear to be overwhelmed, therefore in high level of arousal (on the go). Sensory Discrimination: The ability to make sense of the information that is received in a refined way. A child who has difficulty with spatial awareness may appear to be clumsy because they do not know where there body is in space. OT's focus on enabling these two processes to work through meeting the child’s sensory needs. Talk to our Occupational Therapists for more information!

05.01.2022 Visual motor skills are made up of several key areas including: - Processing skills how the person moves their eyes and takes in information - Perceptual skills how a person makes sense of the visual information - Hand and eye co-ordination how a person utilises the information to allow them to manipulate objects in their hands effectively. ... Some red flags for challenges with visual motor skills include: - Letter reversal - Poor awareness of lines when handwriting - Difficulty copying written work - Difficulty with catching/kicking a ball - Difficulty keeping place when reading and writing An occupational therapist can provide a screener for visual motor challenges and determine how this may impact a child’s ability to function in their daily lives.

05.01.2022 This holiday group may be useful for some of our little ones that may have had to stay at home over the last few months, and just might need a little more help going into the new term. The group class goes over two days (1 hour each day) and is run by our Speech Pathologist. Get in contact with our friendly admin team to find out more. https://www.h2tfamilyhealth.com.au/contact-us.html

04.01.2022 When children are learning to talk, they may use patterns of sound errors to simplify their speech. Children may do this because they have trouble organising their sounds or do not have the coordination to articulate the sound properly. These error patterns are called 'Phonological Processes'. If your child is using gliding past 6 years of age, it is recommended see a Speech Pathologist. Give us a call if you need more info on this.

04.01.2022 Head 2 Toe helps the local community in various ways. Today our Speech Pathologist and Occupational Therapists visited a local preschool and provided a free informational talk on developmental milestones and strategies. Our organisation believes it is extremely important that preschool staff have as many tools as possible to help their students reach their best potential.

03.01.2022 It’s OT week, so it’s time to celebrate the work of Occupational Therapists! 03.01.2022 Is your child having trouble learning their sight words? Here are some tips from our Speech Pathology team on how to work on sight words: 1. Read it 2.
