25.01.2022 Migraine and Stress... Stress is experienced at different times and with different triggers, and then dealing with stress in an individual way occurs. However, for Migraine patient's, an increase in attacks is common when under stress.... Stress can trigger a Migraine attack before, during, but most often, after an event. Stress is an unavoidable part of life that triggers a fight or flight response in our brains. When under stress (just like during the christmas period), corticosteroid hormones are released in our brain, which could block pain. When a stressful event is over, the corticosteroid hormones drop, leaving our brain vulnerable to a Migraine attack. When situations arrive and stress levels increase, try to use these strategie's to reduce the chance of a Migraine attack:- *Regular relaxation breaks during a stressful or busy time, even very short ones, can keep your stress hormones from yo-yoing and can protect against stress-related Migraine. *60 seconds of watching a funny video can release oxytocin and other calming hormones. This can protect against stress-related Migraine. *Increases in physical activity, like exercise, can be beneficial. Getting some fresh air by walking, or even walking up and down a couple of flights of stairs, while it may sound activating, actually helps combat the stress hormones. *As always try to sleep well, eat well, and stay hydrated. Book and appointment now or call 0449 610 545 to get more information on how we can help best manage Migraine duing stressful times. www.headacheandmigrainecentre.com.au #migraine, #headache, #stress, #stressmigraine, #Watsonapproach, #painrelief, #osteopath, #posture,
24.01.2022 The Weekend Migraine... It's Tuesday again and for some of us the weekend is approaching at a rapid rate. The fear of another weekend being a complete disaster battling a Migraine, can be overwhelming. The weekend Migraine is a pattern experienced by many.... Let's work together to make sure next weekend is a Migraine free weekend. Reducing known triggers is the best place to start, and having a weekend plan is essential. Known triggers for a weekend Migraine include disrupted sleep pattern, fluctuation of stress levels, and altered caffeine, water and nutritional intake. When formulating a weekend Migraine plan make sure it includes:- *Predictable sleep pattern (go to bed and wake up at the same time). *Enjoy a morning coffee at the same time as the weekday coffee. *Eat breakfast and hydrate with water. *Minimise stress level changes by including exercise (low to moderate level) and fun weekend activities. To find out how we can help enjoy Migraine free weekends, call and speak with one of our practitioners today. 22.01.2022 Chronic Migraine Awareness... While the official diagnosis is more complicated, migraine disease can be classified as chronic when a patient is having symptoms every other day, at a minimum. This includes the severe headache, nausea and vomiting, sensitivity to light, sound, smell and taste close to every day of your life.... Chronic Migraine has been associated with two groups of risk factors. The first are non-modifiable risk factors (ones that cant change) include genetic factors, female, Caucasian race, and head injury. The second are MODIFIABLE risk factors including medication overuse, ineffective treatment, caffeine use/misuse, smoking, sleep disorders like snoring and sleep apnea, stressful life events, and comorbidities such as anxiety and asthma. At The Headache and Migraine Centre we work with you to manage your modifiable risk factors and provide positive solutions for your Headaches and Migraines. 22.01.2022 Improve Exercise Habits and reduce Migraines... At the Headache and Migraine centre we recognise that there is no one thing that solves all Headache and Migraine disorders. We work with our patients to provide the best Headache and Migraine solutions.... Our extensive examination of the neck (Cervical spine) is performed using the Watson Approach, and the treatment and management program that follows is designed to achieve the best patient outcome. As part of the ongoing management program, we encourage following a healthy exercise program. Improve Exercise Habits and reduce Migraines. Exercise or physical exertion can be a Migraine trigger for some, and this alone can increase stress and anxiety and bring exercise levels down to zero. However, low to moderate exercise has been shown to improve mood, lower stress levels, and may even halt or reduce the severity of a migraine attack. Taking steps to reduce the chance of an attack before exercise can help: - Eat a snack within two hours exercising - Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate before, during, and after exercise - Start small, a 10 minute walk and gradually increase the time and the distance - Avoid exercising at weather change times, extreme temperatures or when pollution is high - Consider gentle forms of exercise like walking, tai chi, yoga, swimming, or cycling Adequate exercise habits are part of the solution to effective Migraine prevention. Start today with better exercise habits and develop a daily exercise plan. The Watson Approach is the key to diagnosing the link between the upper neck and Migraines. We work with patients everyday and provide exercise programs that can relieve and prevent Headaches and Migraines. To find out all the exercise tips, book an appointment now or call 0449 610 545 to chat to our friendly practitioners. https://www.headacheandmigrainecentre.com.au/ #headache, #migraine, #Watsonapproach, #posture, #painrelief, #tension, #Osteopath, #treatcause, #migraineandexercise,

22.01.2022 Migraine in Children is real... It's time to let children do what they do best - Laugh and Play. It can be heart breaking for parents watching a child suffer with Migraine, and a diagnosis is often made from the age of six when the child can communicate on a better level with the medical team. At any age however, Migraine is often misdiagnosed and both the parent and child is left alone to suffer the Migraine attack.... Children can experience head pain (in Classic Migraine) or tummy pain in Abdominal Migraine (pain in the abdomen), or Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome (recurrent episodes of vomiting). New research has found a link in young babies between Colic and Migraine. For more information about this link and Migraine in babies, infants, young children and teenagers contact the clinic today . At the Headache and Migraine Centre we treat Headache and Migraine patients of all ages, including kids who suffer with Classic Migraine, Abdominal Migraine and Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome. Treatment involves the Watson Approach, and is safe and gentle and no 'cracking' is used. 21.01.2022 2020 HEADACHE AND MIGRAINE AWARENESS WEEK 14-18 SEPTEMBER This week we are bringing you our best management tips for Headache and Migraine.... # Tip 2 - Good Sleep Migraine and poor Sleep Patterns.... Advancing scientific research reveals a strong connection between poor sleep habits and Migraine. Migraine patients consistently present with poor sleep habits. The combination of what is happening during the Migraine attack can interrupt sleep, and/or poor sleep that can trigger more attacks. This often leads to a cycle that can't be broken - Migraine attack - no sleep - Migraine attack and so on. It is imperative to help Migraine patients improve their sleep patterns as part of a broader Migraine management plan. At the Headache and Migraine centre we spend 90 minutes with every new patient to explore lifestyle factors and identify unhealthy sleep patterns. Understanding the number of hours slept, if there are any disruptions during sleep (pet in the bed, child waking them up), what hours of the day they sleep, and if they have difficulty falling asleep, are all key questions that are explored. We then work together to provide Healthy Sleep Plans. Book an appointment now to see how one of our practitioners can help unravel your unhealthy sleep patterns and help you to start sleeping soundly. 17.01.2022 Morning Migraine.... Get ready to wake up Migraine Free! Headaches and Migraines can strike at anytime. Often they occur in the early hours of the morning. This happens for a number of reasons. ... Firstly, Migraines and sleep have a intertwined and complicated relationship. Both too much sleep and too little sleep can trigger a Headache or Migraine attack. Secondly - Rebounding is real: By taking a migraine medication, such as a triptan that lasts for 24 hours, the effects they offer may have worn off during the early morning hours. Next, natural painkillers produced by the body are at the lowest level in the early morning hours (between 4 and 8am). This leaves the body to be open to some of the worst Migraine symptoms. Finally, the brain maybe still processing the stressors of yesterday. This is common on the weekend or the first day of a holiday. Wake up each morning Headache and Migraine free..... At the Headache and Migraine Centre, we treat all types of Headaches and Migraines, including morning migraines, and work with you using the Watson Approach, to provide Headache and Migraine solutions. The Watson Approach is the key to diagnosing the link between the upper neck and Migraines. We work with posture correction everyday and can show Headache and Migraine patients how simple postural adjustments can relieve and prevent Headaches and Migraines. 02.01.2022 Migraine and Stress... Everyone's stress levels are at an all time high with the current challenges we face, and and unfortunately things won't be changing for some time to come. With no slowing down of this crazy situation, try to use these strategie's to reduce the chance of a Migraine attack:- *Regular relaxation breaks during a stressful or busy time, even very short ones, can keep your stress hormones from yo-yoing and can protect against stress-related Migraine.
