24.01.2022 Last day of Kokoda! Thanks Glenn Pickard for taking all these amazing photos, for sharing them and for being part of an amazing experience. We set out to train for Kokoda, prepare physically and get it done. What we got was far more than a physical challenge. The Three of us, representing the HEADlines Initiative, each had different emotional experiences. I think we can all say we grew as people, gained a new perspective of ourselves and what we have to offer to our mates in the Maritime Industry who are seeking support. The OptimiseME program delivered in so many ways!

24.01.2022 9 hours in and an overwhelming response from our mates at Svitzer Lines, Newcastle! There’s still plenty of time left to ask your mates if they’ve filled out the survey. It’s so easy, it’s online and 100% anonymous. Thanks again to all our comrades for their support so far. ... Real time data from real Maritime workers talking about the things that matter to them.

18.01.2022 It’s a matter of perspective...... Speaking up can be harder than a Rubik’s Cube. Sometimes there are those that listen and those that hear which one are you? Repost @wayneschwass @pukaup

17.01.2022 Last night the HEADlines Initiative, represented by Jake Field, was invited to attend the Australian Maritime and shipping Industry awards dinner. The HEADlines Initiative was nominated as a finalist and highly commended, in the 2018 ‘Seafarers welfare’ category amongst some terrific nominees and passionate advocates for Maritime workers wellbeing. Our mission is simple, to make it easier for Maritime workers to find support, through a LINK on the job. Wider recognition is ...fantastic. Ultimately, We’ll continue pushing for funding support and collaboration with others who have the wellbeing of Maritime workers as part of their core values because it’s right and it’s needed. Training LINK’s, to add education to their valuable life experience and story, is what can make this initiative so effective for workers in our industry. We believe that the cost of providing this training is a shared responsibility and the HEADlines Initiative is continuing to build relationships with employers, like SVITZER Australia, who share our passion for supporting Maritime Workers, their employees, on and off the job.

17.01.2022 When you want to know how Maritime Workers feel, you ask them! What an amazing response so far to the @headlines_initiative Pilot Program Survey. 100% anonymous, this survey is giving Maritime workers a real opportunity to provide their thoughts on the issues that affect them and how they manage their mental health, on and off the job! Collecting data in real time to help us prioritise effective, on the job support, into the future. #proudtobeamaritimeworker #ourteamarechampions #strengtheningminds #enhancinglives and #empoweringthroughsupport

11.01.2022 Calling all Svitzer Linesman in Newcastle, we need your input!! You have been sent a text with the link to our Survey. Click on it, It’ll take you less than 5 minutes to complete but will determine how the Initiative supports our mates into the future. #it’seasy

09.01.2022 What a great 3 days with 2 more to come!! Jake Field from the @headlines_initiative and Dan Hunt from the @mental_health_movement talking to underground Coal Miners In Narrabri. Presenting, Sharing and listening to the stories of workers is a privilege! We’ve spent the last 3 days talking to over 500 Miners about some tough subjects. We’ve been onsite and underground with them discussing Mental Health, the signs and symptoms of poor mental health, how to identify someone wh...o may be experiencing a mental health struggle and how to approach, assess and assist them, through support. Telling workers that it’s OK to put your hand up for help. That their story is not only worthy and relevant but that it has power. For some people, just finding out they have a Mental Health is confronting enough let alone the fact that we all need to manage it effectively. A key component of our presentation has been the transfer of practical skills and knowledge that provides a blueprint for better management of Mental Health. A support scaffold, a framework for providing support and some real coping strategies. We love what we do and the people we get to meet. The statistics around mental health, mental illness and suicide in Australia are staggering. Addressing these statistics is complex. For our part though, using our education and lived experience along with the power of story to encourage people to Start a conversation, listen non-judgementally, give consistent support, LINK to other supports and follow up, can change lives!

08.01.2022 Day 4 was heavy!

07.01.2022 Working Men and Women across Australia have been waiting for this kind of Health education. Having the tools and the confidence to start a conversation about Mental Health has the real ability to reach beyond the workplace. Workers who can identify their mates who may be struggling to manage their Mental Health effectively, approach them, support them and link to other supports, have the potential to strengthen the very fabric of our communities. ... Not just starting a conversation but changing the current one!

06.01.2022 We’ve been quiet on social media but, behind the scenes, the HEADlines Initiative is still helping to support Maritime Workers, still gaining education and still gathering much needed support to help us help our mates. We’re very grateful to have been nominated as a finalist in the Seafarers Welfare award at the DCN Australian Shipping & Maritime Industry awards, held in Sydney on the 22nd of November. There are some strong finals contenders in the category and we’re wrapped ...to be considered among them. It’s been a long road from the HEADlines Initiatives concept discussions, education and training to where we are now, which is not even close to where we want to be. There are so many people to thank who have been involved from day One with this initiative. They’ve supported, educated and challenged us, all in an attempt to provide better support for Maritime Workers facing their own change, challenge and adversity. If you’re a Maritime worker seeking support, it is available! Talk to you support network, build a support network! Family, friends, work mates, your GP, your EAP can all be a vital LINK in your support chain.

03.01.2022 It’s OK for Everyday to be R U OK day The @risefoundationaust with exactly what support looks like. There’s no need to reinvent the wheel & it’s nothing fancy, offer support, LINK to other supports. ... Lifeline 13 11 14 Hunterlink 1800 554 654 See more

02.01.2022 Once again captions under the photos 23.3.18 - DAY 3 - we left Alola and made our way down to the river. A very steep descent and river log crossing and then a ...very steep ascent. We made our way to Eora creek and then onto Templeton's Crossing. We called into two well preserved weapon pit and the tunnel system the Japanese used. We made our way to Eora Creek dump camp site where we spent the night. 3 river crossings and and torrential rain on the last one made life interesting. Everyone was soaking wet tried to dry boots and clothes before the next morning to no avail lol See more

01.01.2022 If not now, then when? #putyahandup #startingtheconversatio @mental_health_movement

01.01.2022 Thanks boys!!! The response to the @headlines_initiative survey so far has been outstanding! We asked Maritime Workers if they would be prepared to put their hand up for specific training to help LINK their mates to support. So many are saying YES. That’s YES to a mentally stronger more supported Maritime Industry
