24.01.2022 We've had an amazing week celebrating headspace day with a DIY Self Care Kit station at our centre!! There are small steps you can take every day that support your mental health Every change starts with a few small steps. We asked young people and staff what their small steps are - here's what they wrote:... - do some art (painting, colouring, cross stitch, photography) - skate - gardening / care for my plants - cuddle my pet - pat a horse - listen to a comedy podcast - walk along the beach / lake / go for a swim - exercise / tennis / walk / run - grab a coffee / drink some herbal tea - snuggle in bed watching Netflix - watch kpop - dance to songs you love - have a nap - meditate under massive gum trees - listen to the birds - play guitar - listen to music really loud! - sing - have a bath - get a massage - do a puzzle - star gazing / cloud watching - mow the lawn - use Insight Timer app - observe, don't absorb - focus on the present - hug someone - tell a loved one "I love you" What small steps do you take each day? Is there something new you'd like to try? Tell us in the comments below

15.01.2022 We'd like to send a message of support out to all who have been impacted by the bushfires over the last few days. Our hearts are with you in what must be a very difficult and distressing time. If you're age 5 to 25, you can call KidsHelpline any time of the day or night to speak with a counsellor, on 1800 55 1800. In the days and weeks after a disaster, it is important to do things that make you feel physically and emotionally safe. It can help to:... Find ways to connect with others, especially those who help you feel OK and support your wellbeing. This can include family and friends, in-person or online connections. Engage in activities that promote a sense of calm and feeling grounded (use of alcohol and other drugs can be counterproductive with this). Look for ways to include some routine and try to re-engage with things you enjoyed prior to the disaster as much as possible (e.g., playing games or walking, hobbies, etc.). Explore ways to get involved with repair and recovery of your community, and family and friends. This can help give you a sense of hope, which is important to recovery. Be mindful of exposure to traumatic information through stories, traditional and social media. It can be helpful to take regular breaks from the 24-hour news cycle. Find more info about coping with stress after a natural disaster on the headspace website here: https://headspace.org.au//how-to-cope-with-the-stress-of-/
