25.01.2022 Our centre is now providing counselling online and on the phone (telehealth). It's important that when you chat to one of our counsellor you are in a safe space where you feel comfortable, can talk privately and without distractions for some people this might not be easy to arrange. Some things to consider: Do I feel safe speaking to my counsellor in my home? Is there somewhere else on my property (i.e. backyard) where I can be alone?... Should I go for a walk to get space from family members and is it private where I won’t be overheard by others walking by? 25.01.2022 Meet the Youth Linkers, Fadi and Vyshali. Like many of us, they have lived the experience of being a young refugee in Australia. They will use their experiences as their tool in relating to youth who are currently on this journey. You can find the linkers at Service NSW Wetherill Park or DM them through their Instagram page, @youthlinkernsw. These linkers will guide you in navigating and accessing a holistic range of existing services, and help you settle into the community.

18.01.2022 #Repost @pushforbetter (@get_repost) An estimated 15.5%, of young LGBTIQA+ Australians have made a non-fatal suicide attempt at some point in their lives. Among trans people, that number rises to almost 50%. By this measure, the LGBTIQA+ population is the most over-represented group in the country. The driving factors behind these devastating rates of mental ill-health amongst LGBTIQA+ Australians are not well studied. However, we do know that LGBTIQA+ people continue to face high rates of discrimination and stigma from a young age. About 60% of LGBTIQA+ young people report experiencing verbal homophobic abuse, and about 80% of this abuse occurs at school. Living with discrimination and stigma has a substantial impact on levels of psychological distress and can make it harder to seek help when it’s needed

17.01.2022 Good friends are good for your health, friendships can enrich your life in many ways. Don't just wish for good friends, be one! If you think your friend is having a tough time, it’s a good idea to reach out and offer support. You might have noticed they don’t seem like themselves, or they’re not acting the way they normally do. Finding the words to start a conversation isn’t always easy, especially when you don’t know what kind of help you can offer. But it can make a big dif...ference to the person experiencing difficulties. It can be as simple as checking in, letting them know that you care and that you’re there to help them. Even if they don’t open up much at first, showing them you have their back can give your friend strength and hope. This also lets them know you’re someone they can talk to if they do decide to open up later on. 16.01.2022 Some more Healthy Headspace tips

15.01.2022 The Push-Up Challenge 2020 is supporting headspace. headspace provides no- or low-cost mental health services to young Australians aged 12-25. They can also help young people with their physical and sexual health, provide information and support around alcohol and drugs, and give assistance with work or study. Around 75% of mental ill health presents before the age of 25, and suicide is the leading cause of death in the 15-44 age group, so the mental health of young Australians is of huge national importance. In 2018-2019, headspace provided support to over 130,000 young Australians.

12.01.2022 This quick stretch routine will help you lengthen tight hamstrings, open your chest and roll out those shoulders-hunching effects of spending a lot of time at your desk aka. the dinner table. Hold each pose for 30 seconds and enjoy

11.01.2022 Restrictions are starting to ease, and we are starting to go back to more regular activities, such as going back to school, work, and seeing friends & family. This is really exciting but it’s important that we do these things safely. Stopping the spread and being able to have restrictions eased further relies on all of us doing our part. So let’s continue to maintain physical distancing where possible and maintain good hygiene!

10.01.2022 It’s hard to quantify the total economic cost of mental ill health, which includes everything from appointments, hospital beds and medications, to more abstract costs, like lost productivity, diminished wellbeing, and decreased life expectancy. A draft report released in October 2019 by the Productivity Commission estimated that the total cost of mental ill health in Australia was approximately 180 billion dollars per year. @pushforbetter @mentalhealthawareness @headspace.liverpool @healthyheadspace

10.01.2022 We had an awesome weekend at Scream it Out Fest 2021. Thank you for all who came past our booth to have some fun and thank you to Hurlstone Agricultural High school for inviting us!

09.01.2022 "Doing a challenge gives us a sense of routine, a sense of purpose and an opportunity to keep on track so you've got those aspects of normal daily life even though it's a little abnormal at the moment" - Sam Stosur Let's all keep moving during this time to make sure we get the benefits of staying physically fit for both our bodies and our minds. So what are you doing to keep moving in iso?

08.01.2022 At any one moment, approximately 20.1% of Australians are living with mental ill health. That’s 1/5. Almost half of us (45%) will experience mental ill health at some point in our lives. However, less than half of the people who suffer with mental ill health will receive professional care. A significant barrier to seeking help for mental ill health is stigma. Research has shown that stigmatising beliefs about mental ill health still exist in Australia. These beliefs lead to discrimination against people suffering with mental ill health, which discourages people from seeking help when they need it. Improving our knowledge about mental ill health (just like you are doing today!) is recognised as an important step towards decreasing stigma and supporting people to get assistance.

08.01.2022 Sexuality and gender identity aren't always visible, so creating a culture where everyone feels safe is important to the mental health of young people in the LGBTIQA+ community. Be an ally. Be visible. Fly that rainbow flag. #IDAHOBIT
