24.01.2022 As we celebrated Remembrance day last week, Miss Charlis Husband Troy, a Veteran from the Australian Air Force visited us to talk to the children about his role in the Australian Air Force as well as read a beautiful story to the children. The story Troy read to the children is called, "Where the Poppies now grow." The story begins with two young boys, Ray and Ben, who play together in the Poppy fields, pretending to be soldiers. ... As Ray and Ben get older, they join the Defence force together and go through a lot, but still remain friends after everything. The story ends with a photo of two old men, now Veterans, who are still best friends. Troy talked about how he worked with so many of his friends and how they are still to this day very close friends. After the story, the children were invited to ask questions as well as try on Troys uniform. The children were so thankful for Troy coming in to visit today, they all said Thank you and clapped their hands. Thank you Mr Troy for visiting us!

Thank you to all the families who have donated! We have already delivered a full basket to The Rescue Collective with your donations and have managed to fill the basket up again! 18.01.2022 Last week, we were lucky enough to have Arthur Conlon, an Aboriginal artist, come to the centre and paint our wall in our outdoor area as well as work with the children. Arthur has created a beautiful painting along the brick wall in our garden and the children have enjoyed watching this art come to life over the past few days. Arthur painted pictures of some of our childrens drawings onto the wall alongside his designs.... The children were involved in an art lesson with Arthur where they learnt how to draw a Sea Turtle! Arthur also taught the children some Indigenous dances. The children had an amazing time with this and everyone joined in! The childrens art is now up on display in the Cultural area of our classroom!

12.01.2022 This month the children have been learning about the letter B. The children have been involved in many experiences that link in with our letter of the month as well as our theme " Building and Construction." Here are a few photos of what the children have been up to this month :)... Enjoy!

12.01.2022 Over the last couple of weeks, the children have loved creating their very own face masks by using Paper Mache. Paper Mache is a great sensorial activity for children. As they feel the texture of the glue, they will notice that it is cold, wet and sticky and the roughness of the dry paper. The children are able to explore and investigate the process of the paper mache as the glue changes from a liquid to a solid state.... Completing class projects can take some time and this allows children to develop patience. The hard work put in, will connect children with the finished project. The children are using their creativity, concentrating on what features they need to create a face, and what material they need to do so. Children develop social skills as they talk about the progress of the sculpture, taking pride in their work through conversations.

12.01.2022 Today we did a different kind of obstacle course with our friends outdoors. Instead of using the climbing frames, we have set up a series of hand and feet cut outs for the children to match with their bodies. Our friends had their hands and feet in a different order each time they moved to the next step. This was a fun, challenging outdoor activity which builds balancing skills and strength, allows the children to improve their problem solving and thinking process, and build their hand-eye coordination. We had so much fun!

09.01.2022 Today the children enjoyed role playing at our new Hairdressing Salon! The clients enjoyed sitting back and relaxing while getting pampered by their hairdresser. The clients read magazines while sharing stories about their day!

08.01.2022 Today we received a special delivery from our local council, Free Native plants through the Councils Free Native plant program. We have received 50 free plants that we will be planting around our centre. These plants include, - Cut-leaf Daisy -Fan Flower... -Native Violet -Mat Rush - Guinea Vine -Bottle Brush - Native Ginger -Tea Tree -Thyme Leafed Honey Myrtle -Twiggy Heath Myrtle The children were very intrigued upon arrival this morning, when seeing the boxes of plants in Miss Sams office. We had children all morning asking, "What are all those plants for?" The children soon found out during group time. Altogether we had a discussion about our local council, Native Australian plants, Bush tucker, Poisonous and Non-Poisonous plants, The First Australians and loads more. The children enjoyed looking at and smelling some of the new plants too! The children are very excited to work together to plan out where we should plants each plant. The children decided that they wanted to use the internet to research together, what each plant likes and dislikes and where they will be best suited to grow. This will be an ongoing project over the next weeks.

08.01.2022 Today the children were involved in a group lesson about Snake Safety, as one of the children at Head Start Montessori asked the question "What to do if we see a snake?" The children learnt about appropriate clothing for bushwalking, what you should carry on you if you go bush walking, about walking in groups, making sure you have an adult with you and making sure they make lots of noise while walking. The Children learnt what to if they see a snake and what to do incase of a...n emergency where someone gets bitten by a snake. A group of friends helped with demonstrating a scenario of going for a bush walk. The children came across a pretend snake on the ground and one child pretended to get bitten. The children worked together with the help of their friends sitting in the circle watching, to check the injured child, find the snake bite, wrap the snake bite with a bandage, then wrap the limb with another bandage. The children talked about other things they could use incase they did not have a bandage on them such as a jacket or a shirt and what they could use to keep the limb still. The children used Miss Charlis Jacket to wrap a stick to the childs leg to keep it still. The children were able to care for the injured child, call 000 on the pretend phone and keep the injured child calm and still while they waited for help! The children also enjoyed continuing with this experience in the classroom working in groups of two. The children took turns at wrapping a pretend snake bite with the bandages on the mat. Great work everyone! See more
