24.01.2022 HeadwayHealth is thrilled to contribute to the cancer care services provided by Sydney Adventist Hospital which has just been rated first in NSW in the 2019 NSW Patient Survey Program Outpatient Clinics Survey. The San Integrated Cancer Centre services treats over 12,500 patients a year and has achieved some of the highest ratings of care in the State for the 3rd year running across a range of survey measures compared with other NSW outpatient cancer clinics. Over 13000 c...ancer patients from 49 outpatient clinics across NSW were surveyed by the Bureau of Health Information and the Cancer Institute to understand the patient experience and improve patient care. The San Integrated Cancer Centre survey resulted in ratings ‘significantly more favourable’ than the NSW average, across 10 performance measures, the highest of any facility. HeadwayHealth’s Psychologists appreciate the opportunity to work alongside patients and such a highly regarded team of health professionals to assist patients and families through their care. For more detailed information on the survey results please visist: https://www.bhi.nsw.gov.au//outpatient_cancer_clinics_surv

22.01.2022 We all acknowledge the many challenges associated with COVID in our community, but wish to recognise one of the good things that has been achieved through this time is an increased uptake of telehealth and videoconferencing as a tool to connect. We can now log in from anywhere at anytime without needing childcare or transport, and can do so when we aren’t feeling so well. There are, of course, many aspects we miss, and for those of us that chose to work with people, we loo...k forward again to the in-person connection and ‘magic in the room’. It was great to get to meet a group of resilient women this week from all over NSW and Victoria who had logged into in a session hosted by Jo Marx and Its About Us in their Writing as Therapy course. We spoke about the emotional aspects of writing, ideas to ‘just do it’, and most importantly, how to care for ourselves and our emotions. It was great to hear everyone share some ‘self-care strategies’, and reinforce this not as a luxury extra, but as a basic component of care throughout and beyond illness. So thank you ladies for the invitation and your openness, and I hope you all gain meaning and pleasure from your writing! Katharine Hodgkinson

16.01.2022 A great NEW FREE resource for those affected by pancreatic cancer had just become available thanks to Avner Foundation! The new Patient and Carer Information Booklet covers all aspect of care, with information and tips covering diagnosis, treatment and living well. It is designed to be very comprehensive (all 160 pages!), and can be used ‘to dip in and dip out of’ as needed. While the up-to-date medical information will be valuable to many, the wisdom that comes from those w...ith ‘lived experience’ may very reassuring and helpful for many. It is hoped this significant resource will add benefit for patients and their families for many years to come. A team of people living with pancreatic cancer and their carers generously gave their time to assist in this resource, and Drs Lucy Braude and Katharine Hodgkinson have both been acknowledged as part of the large team of contributors which also included medical and specialist nursing professionals and other allied health professionals.
