18.01.2022 It's great to partner with Bulls Masters! We value your generous support of the HEAD YAKKA initiative, through your giving to Outback Futures. Thanks for cheering on our outback communities!

16.01.2022 The HEAD YAKKA initiative was developed following three years of community engagement around issues of mental health in the Barcaldine region. In 2019 Outback Futures, Barcaldine Regional Council and University of Southern Queensland launched HEAD YAKKA in Barcaldine Region. We are currently engaging in conversations with other regions in Central West Queensland, and are advocating for HEAD YAKKA to be developed and led by remote and very remote communities across Queensland. If you'd like to explore ways HEAD YAKKA can become part of your community, get in touch - we'd love to have a chat!

12.01.2022 Nat and Tanya are excited about the Amazing Race this weekend!! Join us in Barcaldine for the Amazing Race Mental Health and Wellbeing Expo Saturday & Sunday 20-21 March. This event's for EVERYONE so organise your family and friends and join in a Commando Steve boot camp, the Amazing Race (it's kinda like a scavenger hunt with lots of fun and mental health and wellbeing info at the checkpoints), workshops, market stalls, and Saturday night with Commando Steve, plus Geed UP Music. There's lots happening so head to the Amazing Race Mental Health and Wellbeing event page to find out more! http://bit.ly/3cEav7r . This is a Head Yakka event and is made possible thanks to the hard work and generosity of a whole bunch of people, including Queensland Government, Barcaldine Regional Council and Outback Futures Ltd.

11.01.2022 It was great to be part of Barcaldine's Blue Tree Project event recently, with our team helping to create an eye-catching reminder about the importance of caring for our own, and each other’s, mental health and wellbeing. People of all ages from across the Barcaldine community gathered with blue paint and transformed a dead tree near the Melaleuca Road Truckstop into an ongoing symbol of hope for those struggling with mental health. "It was great to have school kids, counci...l workers, community members and the 60s and Better group painting together for the good of the community’s wellbeing, says Andy Gore from Outback Futures who coordinated the project with RESQ Plus as part of the Barcaldine Region’s HEAD YAKKA initiative. HEAD YAKKA is all about the community working together for outback mental health and wellbeing, Andy says. We're working to break down stigma and barriers and encourage an environment where people feel safe talking about mental health, and asking for help. Keep an eye out for Barcaldine's Blue Tree next time you're driving past! #headyakka #outbackfutures #bluetreeproject #barcaldine

11.01.2022 The HEAD YAKKA team from Outback Futures recently spent some time in schools around the Barcaldine region chatting about mental health and wellbeing. Andy shared with kids three positive ways we can care for ourselves and others - LOOK OUT for others who are feeling sad or worried, CHECK IN with yourself and ask 'How am I feeling?' and SPEAK UP and talk with someone you trust. Great tips for all of us! Check out the Muttaburra State School kids in action! A big thank you to schools in Barcaldine region for welcoming the team, and we look forward to future visits!
