25.01.2022 Can you imagine going through at least 2 days with broken legs? Nobody checks on you, nobody cares. Imagine how you feel both emotionally and physically. You want to seek comfort and relief, but your shins are at 90 from your knees. This is what this poor kangaroo was going through before he was put out of his misery. What could have been an hour of your time to do the humane thing becomes at least 2 days of suffering for him (based off of swelling). Please do the right thing if you accidentally happen to strike wildlife in your vehicle. Humane euthanasia is far better than the waking nightmare of suffering. Call the ranger, call the police, call your nearest rescue group, but don't drive off with such cruel apathy.

23.01.2022 Little Sacha has come into the home of one of our experienced pinky carers. Sacha, a Western Grey Kangaroo joey, is a victim of road trauma and came into care at just 600 grams and is slowly putting on weight. Little unfurred joeys have a 50/50 chance of survival and need extensive round the clock care. Good luck little sweetie

23.01.2022 Meet Chester, who was rescued from his deceased mum's pouch on the side of Chesterpass Road. His rescuers, carers with Healing Hands Wildlife Care regularly check pouches when driving the highways. Chester was still warm when found, so has a good chance. He weighs 532g. Please always stop and check pouches, if you can't, please call soneone who can

20.01.2022 This is baby Tina, a Brushtail Possum who came into care several days ago after her mum was hit by a car. Tina weighed only 25 gms when she came into care. At this weight, a brushtail possum would be having 2 hourly feeds around the clock. A huge effort and lots of sleepless nights for our possum expert. Unfortunately chances of survival are not good, and being so small, we sadly report that Tina passed away last night.... Please remember to stop and check if you see a deceased possum or kangaroo on the road. There could be a baby in a pouch waiting to be rescued

18.01.2022 Lots of fledgling Magpies on the ground at the moment, they don't all need rescuing. Follow this flowchart and get advice if you're not sure what to do.

13.01.2022 We have been sent some lovely lined, knitted pouches, a jumper for a "naked" bird, a cash donation and kind letter from a very generous member of the public, thank you very much... It's moments like this

12.01.2022 Thank you Chelle and Downunder Discoveries, well done on your fantastic job raising your joey mob https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=541124593458696&id=553595821372325

08.01.2022 This stunning little male Western Golden Whistler was sitting in a carpark near Margaret River. There was immediate concern over the fact that he was easily handled and his foot (claw) appeared to have an old fracture. Before he was able to be taken into care for observation, he flew up into a tree, then came down to forage in the gardens, hopping around quite happily. Nature has an amazing way of showing us that not everything that appears in need of help, needs rescuing

05.01.2022 A couple of weeks ago, one of our carers took in a Barn Owl which had been hit by a car on Frenchman Bay Rd in Albany. The owl had an eye injury and was taken to a vet to be checked, and given antibiotics. The sinus had some damage and leakage from the tear duct caused his eye to close up. Our carer named him "Good Bird" and hand fed him as owls can regularly refuse to voluntarily eat after trauma. Feeding, medication administration and eye baths were challenging because our ...carer needed to wrap Good Bird up otherwise his sharp talons would pierce his heavy duty leather gloves Once Good Bird was feeding well, and his eye injury recovered, it was time for release back to the area he was found. Even though owls are nocturnal, Good Bird was released before dark in case of any concerns following release, thankfully it was a great outcome and he flew straight up to the safety of a high tree. Well done to our carer for his dedicated care of Good Bird the Barn Owl Photos show the progress of his recovery, the release video is in the comments.

05.01.2022 Jack aka Jacky-Longlegs as he's affectionately known, came into care in August last year, along with his adopted sister, to be raised by one of our dedicated carers. In January this year, Jack was soft-released onto another carers property. Today Jack is happily living with his new mob, the gate is open on the pre-release pen, and he's free to come and go as he wishes

05.01.2022 Meet Macy, rescued at 320 grams. Macy lost 20g in first 2 days so was being syringe fed, but is now 439 grams and loving her bottle. She's a real fighter, eyes now open and in the hands of one of our dedicated carers

04.01.2022 This is "Meaty", named so because he's a Butcher Bird. Meaty was hit by a car and laid on the wet road, struggling to breathe with eyes closed. After being vet checked and 3 days in care, he was released back at the exact spot near Albany Highway, Cranbrook. He flew up to a tree, went across to another, a minute later he met up with another Butcher Bird and flew off into the distance. Be free and healthy Meaty... And please stay away from the road ... Close-up pictures of Meaty in comments. See more

04.01.2022 This is Alfie. We received a call from a member of the public asking for help with their 3yo rescue they had raised. Alfie was having trouble integrating into the wild as he was raised alone. Alfie was relocated to one of our carers properties today where soft release roos come and go and learn to be wild roos. Here you see Alfie's first moments in his new environment, enjoying some natural browse.... He has already greeted a couple of the local roos. It will be interesting when they all come in for dinner and he gets to meet his new mob See more
