09.01.2022 Gut health Matters! Your gut breaks down your food into nutrients, which are absorbed into your blood stream and eliminates what is doesn't need. The Gastrointestinal tracts actually starts at your mouth. Your teeth, tongue and mouth help chew and breakdown your food as this action produces saliva making it easier to chew and swallow your food Your esophagus carries food into your stomach. At the end of your esophagus, a ring of muscle relaxes to empty your contents into your... stomach then contracts to stop your contents going back up your esophagus. Your stomach wall produces gastric juices to help digest your contents into a liquid type constancy . Your small intestine continues the process of breaking your food down via bile produced from your gall bladder and gastric juices from your pancreas. Once broken down, these smaller particles along with sugars, vitamins and minerals are absorbed into your blood stream via the wall of your small intestine. The lining of your large intestine predominantly absorbs liquid from your waste material. Undigested fiber mixes with mucus and bacteria which partly break down your fiber to help nourish the wall of your large intestine to keep your large intestine healthy .
