25.01.2022 I just downloaded a 21 day challenge app to help build healthy habits. I've chosen fitness, connection with my partner and words of affirmation. I was having a chat with a client this morning about being able to use it to do a general check in with your nervous system too.... Quite often we are seeing the world through a survival state but not realizing that we are in that survival state energy. We could look at the same story through different states. Each state would speak of a different experience through that one same story Our actions point towards our survival energy. For example everyone is annoying me today, fight response, or I just want to get the hell out of here, flight response. Having an enjoyable conversation with a friend, saftey. Can't get off the couch and feeling a bit here but not here, could be freeze. Noticing the quality of energy in your body, buzzy, jangled, tired, collapsed, calm, vibrant, numb. How are you holding yourself in your body in relation to your energy state. Very generalized for the sake of a Facebook post but you get the vibe of it. It takes a little while to learn how to orient towards more saftey and a ventral state again and often easier done with the support of a therapist but it can be a great idea to start to become aware of how you might be feeling and pondering an action plan you can turn to when you want to support each of these states.

23.01.2022 Oh my goodness. This year has been the hardest year to choose my intention word! This year I walked with the word faith.... Boy oh boy was that word such a part of my life...like huge! I have never prayed so much in my life for myself, my family, my friends, my clients, for the entire world. Everyone says I've been so chill for someone with an unplanned pregnancy in a pandemic at the age of 40 in the midst of some big dreams I had for this year that I wanted to complete but didn't get to. Well that chill (is not always there, let me make that clear) is really drawn from this years word. I trust in my word so much that I've completely embodied it. I have 100% faith I am walking my most perfect path for me right now. It's Gods will and I have faith in that plan. Each year instead of making a new years resolution I choose a word to live by and to guide me through the year, a word that can bring me back to my intentions and values. I spend a lot of time before hand sitting with the year I've had and what I feel I need to get myself through the next year. A word is simple to remember and easier to stick to rather than the pressure of a resolution. A word acts more like your navigational compass gently directing you back towards your values through the year. Each year I choose a word, have it stamped and hung on a necklace with a crystal that has a corresponding energy to that word, beautifully made by @betsy_blonde This might be my 7th or 8th year now using this process and I find it really works for me! What's your word for 2021? I've finally landed on SOULFUL. I was torn between nurture and expansive, neither were fitting then yesterday out of nowhere soulful came into my consciousness. I want to listen to soulful music, I want the food and drink I consume to fill my soul. I want to create soulful practices, rituals. I want to deliver soulful work to you all. I want my connection with my husband, baby, friends and family to feel soulful. I want a full soul to be my priority next year. My matching crystal will be the simplicity of a rose quartz.

23.01.2022 Oh my goodness! It's been a reallllly long time since I've shared an art therapy post I run numerous art therapy groups around Geelong and they have all been placed on hold until COVID buggers off.... A few weeks ago the Hope Bereavement centre asked if I would run an online group with my co facilitator Caroline. I was like yeah for sure!!! (The biggest override of my life) I hated Zooming in groups. What had I just said yes to? How would the group work via zoom? How do you hold space for people to grieve online??? With art??? Well....we did it. I didn't hate it. I think it actually went pretty well...and I actually really enjoyed it! And we all connected so well. Now I'm thinking why haven't I been running more art therapy groups online???? Anyway I'm geared up for our next Hope Bereavement creative evening. If you're keen to attend too please email [email protected] to hold your space at our next creative bereavement evening.

22.01.2022 In tonight's creative bereavement group we spoke about synchronicity after losing a loved one. Synchronistic moments and the meaning we give them. Meaningful coincidences.... The more you look for them, the more you find. When you experience synchronicity you’ll have experiences that seem far too significant to be mere day-to-day serendipitous encounters. Something happens, it feels like a sign, something in your soul lights up as you recognize and acknowledge it. Has there been one of these moments for you? Some common moments of synchronicity include, Songs playing at poignant moments. Unexpected familiar smells wafting past you. Animal guides appearing. Rainbows in times of dispair. Butterflies at special moments. Crazy coincidences. Potent timely dreams. An incident of something precise and random happening in your grief that lets you know there is something bigger going on here, showing up for you in this moment. The more you listen, the more you can hear.

22.01.2022 Hey there! It's me Rachel, here to let you know Caroline and myself will be running our next creative bereavement group via zoom on the 21st of this month 7-8.30pm and it will be free! Each month we have a different activity to explore with some reflective journal questions to ponder. Please let me know if you wish to join us. If you have been curious about coming along in the past but were a little nervous, now is a great time to join in from the comfort of your own home.

21.01.2022 When art therapy and somatic experiencing worlds collide. A little art therapy for myself today. I explored getting the feelings out that were sitting with me that I did not wish to carry into the weekend, I explored placing a boundary around myself then filling up my center with light and goodness.... The key to getting the most out of this exercise is embodying the process.

19.01.2022 A little reminder that our next free creative bereavement group is back tomorrow night via zoom. No art experience needed but booking essential.

18.01.2022 This Thursday evening is our FREE creative bereavement group. You don't have to have any art making experience and your art materials only need to be very basic. Come and join a non apologetic space, where it is more than ok to tell your stories, share your memories, to have a laugh or a cry and experience everything inbetween. Book by calling or emailing the Hope Bereavement centre to get your Zoom link. This is a great opportunity to connect in with the wonderful Hope Bereavement team and service. x

17.01.2022 What a great idea!

13.01.2022 I am so excited to bring more offerings to you this year and next! Hopefully the universe allows us to do this in person!!! I wrote several workshops during lockdown times last year that I have been sitting on for far too long now.... One will be vision and values based, the other will be connection to self and other based, both will be full of somatic goodness and art therapy exploration. I hope to have some collaborations pop up along the way with other workshops here and there being offered. I'm definitely going to be running more tarot workshops because they are good fun, who doesn't need a little more archetypal magic and reflection in their life. We will hopefully see the return of our substance addiction art therapy group in the new year. Aaaaand well being pregnant has led me to find this book which has totally inspired me to run creative pregnancy circles. When will this all happen Well hopefully once the restrictions ease again and we have more freedom to sit in circle together. So fingers crossed because I can not wait to deliver these offerings to you!

13.01.2022 Our next Creative bereavement group is on the 18th of next week. It's also free to join! 7-8.30pm via Zoom. Email [email protected] to hold your spot. NO ARTISTIC SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

12.01.2022 Ahhhh so glad I'm a somatic experiencing practitioner! I've been able to attend to my body so well and observe what's going on within me. What are these green things I'm swinging around? They are Smoveys, things that are often used in Somatic Experiencing. They can be helpful for bringing activation to the nervous system when you're feeling flat or they can help to deactivate the nervous system when it's feeling over active.... With all of this COVID-19 stuff going on I find myself swinging between states of calmness to extreme terror. A wave of terror swept through today so I thought it was time to pull out the Smoveys and give them a bash....so helpful! The balls in the rings move as a free mass, creating a vibrational stimulus on the musculoskeletal and nervous systems. It’s as if the pulsating vibration synchronizes with the natural vibrational frequencies in the human body, bringing balance and a sense of well-being. I also did some EFT tapping on anxiety in the body which worked well as a quick fix. On my desk I have a stress ball and warm water I sip on all day. I spend a bit of time looking out the window orienting to my new workspace and being mindful of what's safe in my reality. I noticed as I watered my vegetable garden tonight I had an inner tremble coming from within, this is our bodys way of attempting to deal with the trauma it's experiencing. When you feel that little shaky, shaky from within just let it happen, it's how your body is trying to take care of your nervous system...or actually more like how your nervous system trying to take care of you! How are you coming back to yourself during all of this craziness? See more

09.01.2022 Free creative bereavement group tomorrow! It's our last one for the year so please join us

07.01.2022 Some night's it's not about the art or the therapy. Sometimes it's just about the regulation that movement and mindfulness can bring. I'm so honored to hear so many special stories and have people share so many precious memories of lost loved ones.... All of these stories continue to live on energetically through others who hold these spaces.

03.01.2022 Each time I run an art therapy group via zoom I'm still constantly surprised at how well it works, and how much you can feel online over a computer screen. It's crazy. Always full of gratitude for shared experiences within a safe space.... I reaaaaallly need to start running some general online art therapy groups soon! Tonight my art was dedicated to the always inspiring, recently passed @essexwitch

03.01.2022 SOMATIC MASK TIP Re embody the feeling of your face. Once you take your mask off, the area of your face where your mask was can feel a bit different to the area of your face that wasn't wearing a mask.... Your face might feel a bit weird, disconnected, or a bit freezey, not quite integrated as one. Notice that. Then... Rub, pat open this area of your face, smile, bring this area of your face back online again. Also if you're a mouth breather (like me) this can be the breath of an anxious person (it can also be excitement or sinuses) if you're a mouth breather out of anxiety and you're walking about feeling as though you are suffocating on your mask, try to mindfully breathe through your nose. Breathing through your nose can feel a bit weird too if you're not used to it so practice it at home without your mask first.

01.01.2022 In honor of our grief group and people who have experienced pregnancy loss.
