24.01.2022 We often don’t appreciate our neck until it is not working properly. When suddenly you wake and can’t look to the side to perform a head check in the car. An acute strain of a facet joint in the neck can be painful, restrictive and upsetting. With gentle hands on techniques our Osteopaths aim to reduce the spasm of the surrounding muscles and gently restore mobility to the affected neck joints. ... Most importantly, our role is to educate you and empower you with knowledge to prevent this from happening again. Simple lifestyle changes can have a huge impact on the daily pressure put on your neck. From posture to pillows, our osteos know it all. See more

21.01.2022 Did you know that if you are feeling thirsty then you are probably already dehydrated? Recommendations are on average 2 litres for females and 2.5 litres for males but research tells us that the average Australian only drinks 1.29L. If you are wondering how much that is, why not measure it out? Use the glasses or drink bottle you usually drink out of and see how many it takes to fill a 2-2.5L measuring jug. ... Keeping well hydrated is a simple way to help us stay healthy and better cope with our current environment.

20.01.2022 With the ease of stage four restrictions, from Monday 28th September we can assist with a broader range of conditions in the clinic. To meet criteria for treatment in this next phase we are able to treat you: - to prevent a significant increase in pain... - to prevent a substantial increase in recovery time as result of delayed care - to prevent a significant deterioration in your ability to function independently - we can also now provide pre and post operative elective surgery care. - you may also seek an appointment for assessment or diagnostic purposes and where further delay is likely to result in deterioration of your condition. It's not quite business as usual and we will be screening clients to ensure the criteria is met before treatment. We thank all our wonderful clients for your patience during this time.

19.01.2022 Nicely done Victoria! Clinic reopening Thursday morning. We have made some extra appointments available over the next few days. Bookings available online. Link in bio

18.01.2022 Whiplash is a general term used for head and neck injuries where a person’s head moves backwards and then forwards suddenly with great force. We commonly see whiplash in motor vehicle accident patients but it can also result from physical abuse, sports injuries or falls. When managed properly the body can recover well from whiplash. The Osteopaths at Health and Balance are passionate about educating you and working with you to get relief from this discomfort. Read our latest blog to learn more about whiplash and our approach to it. https://healthandbalance.com.au/whiplash/

17.01.2022 Under stage 4 restrictions we will not be providing face to face consultations for regular treatment with the exception of urgent cases. We still recognise you need support and we will do everything that we can to provide that for you over the coming weeks through Video consultations, phone calls and emails. We will be adhering to the guidelines and restrictions put in place by the Victorian government by encouraging all clients to continue their care through these alternativ...e options. In the case of requiring an urgent treatment, clients will be thoroughly screened to determine if treatment is deemed urgent under the new guidelines. The guidelines clearly state that your condition is only considered urgent if by not having a Osteo treatment you will experience a severe deterioration in your condition which may result in you attending the emergency department, or that may prevent you from performing essential activities of daily living such as caring for yourself or your family. Routine care is not permitted during this time and as an alternative your Osteopath will be more than happy to spend time with you to discuss strategies to self mange your condition. These measures are intended to reduce interaction and non-essential travel within the community. The team at Health and Balance appreciates your cooperation in this. As always we thank you for your understanding in this ever changing situation and we hope you all stay healthy and well over the coming weeks. We can’t wait to see you back in the clinic after Stage 4 restrictions are over!

06.01.2022 We would like to inform all our wonderful clients that we are moving across to video consultations only. 05.01.2022 With many of us now working from home, you might be finding your daily routine is a bit out of whack. Here are some tips to get it back on track, be productive and stay healthy. - Routines are important. Get up at the same time every morning, get dressed and do all the things you would usually do as part of your morning routine before work. - Go for a walk. Maybe you used to walk to and from work, the train station or even just from the car park but that morning burst of exer...cise helps to keep you healthy and get your brain cells firing. Now enjoy a walk around the block or at your local walking tracks. - Take regular breaks. Make sure you schedule in your usual lunch break as well as smaller ones to do some stretches or get a glass of water. - Spend some time outside. Without the need to commute to an office you may find yourself spending more time indoors but getting some fresh air and vitamin D will do your mind a lot of good. #sunshine #health #energyboost #inspired #immune #walking #funshine

03.01.2022 As we are recognised as an essential health service we will do our best to support those in our community in need. It is unusual times at the moment and we understand that for some of our clients continuing to manage their condition is vital. We support all clients who decide to postpone their treatment for a few weeks and we will continue to offer online consultations to help you through until we can see you again. If you do need an appointment over the coming weeks we hav...e put many changes into place in the clinic to ensure your safety. Practitioners will continue to wear masks and we will provide masks for clients should they prefer to wear one. We recognise that this is a constantly evolving situation so we will monitor daily and notify if our services change. We will continue to be guided by current advice and the local situation. We thank you for your continued support.

03.01.2022 Two simple things to maintain good heath; water and sunlight. We need vitamin D to maintain good health, to keep bones and muscles strong and importantly to support a healthy immune system. Vitamin D forms in the skin when it is exposed to UV from sunlight. Most people maintain adequate vitamin D levels just by spending a few minutes outdoors on most days of the week.... Being physically active (e.g. gardening or going for a brisk walk) also helps boost vitamin D levels. Sun protection is recommended when the UV Index is 3 or above, or when spending extended periods of time outdoors.

03.01.2022 Schooling from home means kids will be spending more time on devices. There are many things you can do to ensure your child does not start to experience neck pain or headaches. Our Osteopaths suggest taking some time to set up their workspace well, encourage lots of movement breaks and where possible offer alternatives to device use. ... The best solution is to reduce the amount of screen time but some simple stretches may help to relieve the tension in situations where they are required for school to continue the use. Chat to one of our Osteos to help you better help your child. Read our blog for more tips on sensible device use for kids. See more

02.01.2022 Make time to get out the exercise mat at least once a day. A simple 10-15 min stretch or movement session will help prevent physical tightness from building, improve your mental clarity and boost your energy. #flexibility #motivation #balance #health #strength #breathe #justmove

02.01.2022 Let's talk tension headaches. That feeling like a vice is gradually tightening around your head, often associated with stress and as the name implies, tension. What it feels like: - often described as squeezing or like a tight band across the forehead or around the head - dull, non-throbbing pain... - mild to moderate intensity - usually felt on both sides of the head - tightness in the neck and shoulders is common - associated symptoms may include trouble concentrating and sleeping, nausea and indigestion Who it affects: - can occur at any age although it is most common in adults - often associated with periods of stress, anxiety or depression - can also be triggered by muscular tension eg. Poor posture or jaw clenching Our approach As Osteopaths our goal is to help address the underlying cause. To identify the factors contributing to your headache and to help support you to make changes to prevent any reoccurrence. #health #wellness #relax #stressfree #selfcare #wellbeing #healthylifestyle #breath #headache #osteopathy
