19.01.2022 Our last Consumer Conversation: Magic bullet or bitter pill? Understanding what the COVID-19 vaccine and its rollout mean if you have a complex health condition or disability, attracted a big turn out on a Monday lunch time. You shared your sense of urgency to get the information you need about the vaccine: is it safe for you (and your specific circumstances), how and who can you have this safety conversation with, and when will you be vaccinated. We've compiled your views and perspectives into this detailed summary for Queensland Health. Thank you all for your valuable contributions and please keep sharing your concerns and perspectives. https://www.hcq.org.au//HCQ-consumer-consult-magic-bullet-

01.01.2022 Consumer representative, Keren Pointon, got to operate a robotic arm under the watchful eye of Professor Ross Crawford at a demonstration held as part of a briefing session for members of the Data and System Intelligence Committee run by the Department of Health. The site visit/briefing was intended to bring to life what the Clinical Business Information does and some of the challenges faced by it. Keren and Jo Smethurst from Health Consumers Queensland were amazed at the in...creased safety provided to patients having some orthopaedic surgery in Queensland. There is a quick learning curve in using this machine as clinicians can plot different scenarios and see their outcomes before they even make an incision! Taking time out of a committee meeting usually filled with business papers and very focused discussion was a valuable chance to discuss big ideas, aspirations and how all of this fits together in a bigger picture. Time is a valuable commodity and learning multiple perspectives in such an efficient way is never wasted. Health Consumers Queensland would encourage other committees to take a similar approach. It was such a success, that the next briefing session will also be on-site to see a piece of ICT in action. We’ll keep you updated on that when it happens.
